To wonder why all sanitary towels now smell like Glade plug-ins???

Bought sani-pads and panty liners (yuk to their name!) only to discover there has been some kind of Magic Tree collaboration that I was not aware of.

Why on earth would I want my foof to smell like I'd given it the once over with the Shake and Vac?

Very Confused

(PS: I'm not touting for advice about mooncups - already own one Wink)

Somebody has been taking the phrase 'lady-garden' a bit too literally. Yuk. Hate having to trawl through all the packaging to find the plain unscented stuff.

SHarri13 · 10/07/2013 14:48

Oh I hate this. Guaranteed thrush,
Lovely.

What the hell is the point, my vagina doesn't smell of glade at any other time of the month.

tedmundo · 10/07/2013 14:57

I have had to stop using Always as they give me full on nappy rash!

I had a bum hole op recently so needed to wear pads for a while to catch the bleeding (oh it's non stop glamour in my life) and the nappy rash hurt me more than the stitches!

I now buy very cheap knickers and bin them after a few washes.

Now, what's all this about mooncups? If pads are out, perhaps I need to investigate?

toldmywrath · 10/07/2013 15:03

I love Mumsnet! Where else could you have a conversation about scented sanpro & bum ops -quality!
Re Mooncups-how long does it take to get used to -ahem- inserting them properly?

soimpressed · 10/07/2013 15:07

I really struggle to find unscented - I always thought I must be the only on who preferred not to smell of air freshener. I hate air fresheners too though!

ColdHandLou · 10/07/2013 15:23

how do you do a non-yellow emoticon thebody?

V impressed!

ClaraOswald · 10/07/2013 15:32

The biggest problem with the scented ones is that it's a dead giveaway, especially in a warm environment, that you are on your period. Extra warmth seems to release the scent more.

Urgh, I hate them! If I ever buy them (by accident - there seem to be a lot of stealth scented sanpro these days) I always end up really sore.

AuntieStella · 10/07/2013 15:45

I have some (bought by accident) and they really did make me itch. As I hadn't noticed the new formulation (only a small logo, which looks (deliberately?) confusingly like the "new pack design" one that had been there shortly before), it took me a while to realise why I was itching.

I changed brands, and the itch vanished.

And I think the name for the new product Always Infinity needs changing for UK. I keep thinking of the BT adverts.

nobeer · 10/07/2013 15:47

I hate them too, I'm sure they made me itchy and gave me a sebacious cyst. Last time I went to the supermarket I was sniffing the packets as if I was choosing some kind of ripe melon. I got own brand ones which seemed to be ok.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 10/07/2013 15:56

I hate the scented pads because they make me itch.

I'm always a bit amused by the feminine hygiene products; it's shampoo for your pubes! What's wrong with soap? And special fango wetwipes. Why?

I don't want my nethers to smell like New Car, thanks anyway.

RubyThePirate · 10/07/2013 15:56

I only use natracare chlorine- and perfume-free sanpro, since discovering their maternity and nursing pads.

They do not insult my fanjo Grin

Scented sanpro can fuck off.

OP, why not add a link to this thread in your feedback?

MakeGlutenFreeHay · 10/07/2013 16:10

It's instant thrush for me - I bought some by mistake last period and had recurring thrush for the next month Sad. Hate them.

My preference is fleur cup (more reliable - for me - than my mooncup) and cloth san pro.

wallpaperaddict · 10/07/2013 16:18

I can't use anything scented so the idea of scented san-pro is my idea of hell! I use either cottons pads from boots, or more recently gift pads that I got at the allergy show. They have a herbal layer and some ionic thing going on but are very very comfortable and not full of scent and plastic!

picnicbasketcase · 10/07/2013 16:20

They do smell quite vile now, like cheap talc. Unfortunately though, I've not found any other nighttime ones that don't leak everywhere. So I switched to Bodyform for most of the time but put up with the revolting scented ones for night.

paulapantsdown · 10/07/2013 16:30

Lil-lets pads are unscented. I've been using them since the whole scented stupidity started.

I really don't understand the concept? I shower in the morning, change pads every couple of hours, shower again before bed if things are really heavy, and I have never one in 25 years of periods ever felt that I smelt! Who are these whiffy women? Or are we just brainwashed into thinking we are?

Dahlen · 10/07/2013 16:33

I haven't bothered with any disposable form of sanitary protection since discovering the mooncup (thank to MN). I am horrified that scenting products seems to have become the norm.

Blood does smell and it's not particularly pleasant, but if you're changing pads/tampons regularly enough it's not that noticeable - certainly not by anyone other than yourself and even then probably only when in the privacy of the bathroom.

It's just another example of how advertising works - making people feel inadequate about something perfectly natural and then selling them the solution.

BeCool · 10/07/2013 16:35

Where are all these women who prefer the scented ones though? Perhaps everyone is just buying them by mistake.

perhaps MN could add a question on this subject to the next census!

I switched from tampons to pads recently. This is probably why I was paranoid that I stank. I bathe regularly and change my pads too- am not a smelly person! Experimenting with different brands and hate the air freshener-blood fragrance wafting from between my legs. I found unscented stuff in Poundland that works well.

eurozammo · 10/07/2013 16:59

It's bloody awful.

The last thread like this, I sent to the Always marketing peeps. They gave some flannelly reply I think.

I bought some by mistake. They were in a Boots bag in my office about 5 feet away from where I was sitting. It took me a while to work out what the nasty cheap pong was. When I did, I binned them. The bin is under my desk and the smell was so strong! I ended up having to put them in two tied up carrier bags to mask the honk!

ClaraOswald · 10/07/2013 17:02

As an aside, ladies.

I fully appreciate that it is hot and using body spray might well help you feel fresher. Please stop using the whole fucking can of Impulse, please, or I may end up vomiting.

Just come back from the supermarket and there was a lady in front of me at a couple of points who totally honked of Vanilla shite-spray.

meddie · 10/07/2013 17:11

Wonder why only womens bits are considered smelly enough to require pongy pads and fanjo wipes.Surely they are missing a huge male market. Could have testifresh wipes and bollocky breeze sprays. For that fresh as a daisy scrote
