To think that the British just don't know how to dress for summer?

Me included.

During the heat wave, I don't think I've seen a single person dressed nicely/appropriately. Same when I've been abroad. I fully accept that it might just be where I live/go on holiday, btw.

I just don't think that the British can do summer clothes very well. Maybe because we don't get that much of it? And what is this thing for men wandering around public areas without a top on? When did that become acceptable?! Confused You don't see the men of Greece or Italy wandering around the streets without a top. It makes for grim viewing.

Am I being a miserable twat?

And that's what I hate too, that its considered ok or 'a compliment' to call someone too skinny. I'm really not just directing this at you Marmalade, its something that has annoyed me for a while.

The thing as well now is, the advent of those awful "Spotted" Facebook pages, where you get papped by wankers with phone cameras and then they post your picture to be mocked by other wankers.

I am petrified of being papped so I try to go about my business whilst blending into the ether and not causing much bother, even though I am blistering fucking hot. I guarantee you, if I dared give in and go out in actual little clothes, I would be papped. Under the caption "OMG who new you cud get whales in the Black Country? lol" :(

I remember going to Italy for a wedding and was quite shocked with the amount of titty that was on show by the Italian woman for a Catholic church wedding. I mean really low plunging dresses with some of the more mature woman having enough cleavage to hide a small tribe

Not that i'm religious at all but I always thought you needed to dress demurely in a place of worship.

If someone berates you for being "too skinny" tell them to go and fuck their own arse with a jackhammer.

You clearly don't care what people think so what's the beef?

Speak for yourself. I look incredible. Quite modest too.

Seen loads of people today looking cool in maxis and playsuits and loads of teenagers in teeny skirts and shorts looking skinny and young and trendy. [jealous]

Couple of nasty cases of sunburn out and about too of course.

Just because I don't care what they think of me, doesn't mean I think its ok for people to make disparaging comments about people who are very slim.

People who are overweight might not care what over people think about their bodies, but it doesn't mean that they would want someone to call them a 'fatty'.

Yanbu at all, some people do not dress to suit their shape. You cannot squeeze a size 24 into a cami top and mini skirt, sorry it does not look good

Am much better in winter than hot summer. Not been enough good summers to build up a wardrobe and I've been pregnant for years so absolutely nothing to wear this year.

I'm so so white and arms are completely different colour to my legs making me look like that game where you mix up the top, middle and bottom of a person.

The European mums at school look lovely. Simple dresses, simple colours, sandals - looks easy. Never is.

I'm off to change Sad am flipping baking.

I dared to get my arms out a bit on Saturday night at my friend's house and consequently got bitten to fuckery by mosquitoes. So now not only are my arms fat and white, they are covered in attractive lumps :(

I'm wearing jeans and it is 28 degrees where I am Blush

I have been wearing pedal pushers but got a little sun burnt on Saturday so want to keep my legs covered and don't actually own anything else!

I have just ordered a few dresses from ASOS who seem to be doing a lot of this style which is great if you hate getting your arms out but feel a dufus in longer sleeves in 30 degree heat.

And whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy can't anyone make a nice midi length dress that isn't in that hideous bodycon style? I would wear a naice midi length frock and probably get some air to me fanjo in the process but without showing off my hideous fat knees.

MIDI LENGTH AND LITTLE WAFTY SLEEVES OK DESIGNERS?

I'm currently wearing a stripy pull on strapless dress just to piss of Marms Grin

We are always identified as being British on holiday - I was worried its because of our dress sense but the family we spoke to said it was beause DH has red hair Hmm I have no idea if they were telling the truth, but it happens whether we go away in Winter or in Summer...

What about tea dresses, they're generally quite forgiving.

I quite like this one. Dress it down, i.e. pour my non model body into it, lose the handbag and swap the heels for flat sandals.

I grew up in a NorthWestern seaside town. Every first hot day of the year the front would be rammed with people exposing their milk white flesh to the sun, the men of all sizes all topless in denim cut offs or board shorts, the women of a certain age all spaghetti strap vests riding up over rolls of fat and teeny tiny short shorts/rara skirts, the teenagers in their cossies and flipflops... by 4pm everyone would look irradiated.

There may well have been some tastefully and appropriately dressed people there but they didn't snag my radar the way the corned-beef-armed women with tattoos did :o

There are midlength dresses with wafty sleeves to be had in Debenhams Mantaray department, Marmalade, but the prints they come in may offend your sensibilities :)
