to think that there can’t actually be people out there who justify paying £400 plus for a kitchenaid food mixer?

just received a load of special offers from qvc for kitchenaid products. there are items such as

toasters for £295. coffee makers for £615. Food mixers upwards of £400 up to as much as £700! Shock

Surely nobody in their right mind actually pays those kinds of obscene prices? Grin

I have a Thermomix which is double and then some the price of a kitchen aid. It is the best thing I have ever bought. I use it everyday; we have healthier meals and far less processed food so very worth it to me.

bedhaven · 08/07/2013 15:43

They reckon that clothes are worth it if they work out at less than £1 a wear...quite reasonable to transpose that idea to other desirable items.
An avid baker will certainly get their money worth from a kitchen aid (and they look so pretty). I was lucky enough to be given a kitchen aid blender as a gift. It's brilliant, still totally fit for purpose far outlasting many a cheap one and the parts are replaceable if anything does break.

KenAdams · 08/07/2013 15:44

I have one but I don't need to justify to anyone why.

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/07/2013 15:47

The hardest part for me was deciding what colour to buy. It took me weeks, weeks I tell ya. I printed off lots of different colours and stuck them round my kitchen.

It looks fabulous and I love it, but my old hand mixer is better.

SHarri13 · 08/07/2013 15:52

I have one, bought it with some money we were given when we got married. The cash was given with the sole purpose of buying one. We just wouldn't have £400 to spend otherwise. I LOVE it and use it every day, I bake bread and like the odd cake. I used it to mix coleslaw yesterday as the bowl I used kept spilling over the side.

We also have quite a few expensive kitchen things, it's we're we like to spend money and think you get what you pay for without a doubt. On the other hand I buy cheap clothes, especially for myself, don't go wild on groceries (lidl for most). Don't go on holidays abroad very often. It's all relative.

SHarri13 · 08/07/2013 15:54

Ok, so what colour did everyone buy?

Mines storm black (dark metallic grey) with a glass bowl.

IsaacCox · 08/07/2013 15:56

What colour did you get Exit? Love that you put printouts round your kitchen Grin

IsaacCox · 08/07/2013 15:57

Mines raspberry ice (pink). It came with a glass and a metal bowl plus free Salter weighing scales.

VikingVagine · 08/07/2013 15:57

I want a metallic blue one with a glass bowl but they've stopped doing that particular shade.

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/07/2013 15:58

Yellow. I was very drawn to the Boysanberry and the Grape though.

Sallystyle · 08/07/2013 16:01

I have one! Love it.

londonrach · 08/07/2013 16:06

Mother in law and I split the cost of my kitchenware when I got married. At the time only 5 years ago my brand new kitchenware from steamer trading cost 200 pounds. It was the best investment ever and gets used on a daily, weekly basis. Can't believe they cost so much more now. I know mother in law regrets not getting one for herself. She was still using her one from when she got married over 40 years ago. If I won the lottery a kitchenaid mixer in her chose of colour would be one of the first things I'd buy. Yes it's expensive but if you work cost per use its cheap. By the way I'm very happy with my cheap 5 pounds kettle and toaster. X

FasterStronger · 08/07/2013 16:06

I have a £200 toaster and a £1300 dishwasher.

I buy really good quality and get it serviced when it fails. my gaggia classic coffee machine (purchased 2000) has just had a new pump fitted.

londonrach · 08/07/2013 16:07

Kitchenaid not kitchenware. Sorry. Xxxx

Sallystyle · 08/07/2013 16:07

oh and mine isn't a fashion statement.

I bake a lot of bread, it is awesome for kneading. It should hopefully outlive me and then I can pass it on.

Worth every penny and I can justify paying the money, just like I can justify spending a lot on shoes. If you want something and have the money who cares?

Ragwort · 08/07/2013 16:10

I have one, bought over 10 years ago - personally I can't believe that people spend so much money on clothes/handbags/shoes/mobile phones/ipads etc etc - but so what, we are all different and how dull if we weren't Grin.

Actually my mother did spend £400 on an ipad which she can't even use - I don't understand that but hope she might give it to me.

Trazzletoes · 08/07/2013 16:11

The fact that its beautiful is a side issue. It does a much MUCH better job than any other mixer I have ever owned.

IThinkOfHappyWhenIThinkOfYou · 08/07/2013 16:14

I have a kenwood major which cost about £350 ten years ago (inc blender and processor). Its a lot of money but I probably use it 5 days out of 7 which is more than I use my TV, piano or even my car which cost very many times more. I like it and I could afford it. I wouldn't pay £30 a month for gel nails like some of my mates do but I understand that people have different wants. I would love a fancy coffee machine but I'm too scared to make the commitment in case the coffee isn't that good but I have to keep on drinking it because I spent so much on the machine.

I've got my eye on a toaster that cost £175. I know that there are cheaper toasters that do the job but I like it and if I spent £175 on a bag nobody would turn a hair.

mignonette · 08/07/2013 16:16

My Mother bought one in the early 80's. It is still working and has needed no repairs. She uses it at least twice a week to make bread.

Enough said.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/07/2013 16:20

I happen to know that there is an ordinary domestic kitchenaid being used in the kitchen of a very popular cafe near me - it was a wedding present to one of the owners, and when she opened the cafe, she decided to use it until she could afford a commercial mixer - as far as I know it is still going strong, despite the heavy workload it receives.

Ouryve - I have a Dualit toaster - partly paid for with christmas present tokens - and I love it. One of the big selling points for me was the fact that it has replaceable parts, so will hopefully last and last - unlike the toasters we have had in the past.

Thanks to this thread, I have just gone and looked at Kitchenaids on ebay, and I am in lust love.

FasterStronger · 08/07/2013 16:26

SDT - I have replaced dualit toaster elements. unfortunately they don't sell replacement kettle elements anymore.

damn them!

Damnautocorrect · 08/07/2013 16:28

I've a kenwood chef, one of the best things I've bought. It gets used frequently, I went through alot of cheap mixers before I bought one

blueberryboybait · 08/07/2013 16:32

I don't have 1 kitchen Aid I have 2 Grin both in strokable candy Apple red. They are not just machines to me they are my livelihood but even if they weren't it's my money and I can spend as much or as little on anything I choose.

ExcuseTypos · 08/07/2013 16:35

I've got one. It's in Candy Apple Red and I actually do love itSmile

I use it almost every day for breadmaking and dd uses it as she does a lot of baking.

It is a lot of money but I can afford it, so why not buy one?

ExcuseTypos · 08/07/2013 16:36

Oh snap blue. I like stroking mine too!

When I first got it, I used to tell people to have a stroke, cos it really does feel lovely.
