To think when you go on holiday with family....

That room should be allocated depending on people's needs?!

Here goes (I'll try to keep it short)

O.h, dd (15mths when we go) and I have been invited to go on holiday in October with o.h's parents as they have booked a 6 berth lodge in Devon for a week and thought we could do with some time away too. Great, we thought, we looked on the website and found it had one bedroom with a king size bed and en suite with bath and overhead shower. One bedroom with a double bed and a third bedroom which is a single room. Also another bathroom with just a shower (no bath)

So we were under the presumption that we'd have the room with en suite so we could bathe dd as she doesn't like the shower, then dress her in the privacy of the bedroom before putting her to bed in the single room. This would mean o.h's parents would have the double room and use the other bathroom with just a shower as o.h's dad is disabled so can't climb into a bathtub to shower.

But no. They want the master room as they want the bigger bed. They also want to shower in the non-en suite bathroom due to o.h's dad's disability. So we'd have to go not their room to bathe dd and walk her across the cabin to get her dressed in our room or hers.

I know I'm being petty, but it just doesn't make sense to me. I wouldn't be so annoyed if they were actually paying for the holiday but, due to o.h's day's disability, they get a £750 holiday allowance each year, so I don't understand why they have first dibs when our needs are greater!

Someone smack some sense into me!

There are no taxpayer funded holiday allowances, either, it will be a private scheme of some sort.

LastTangoInDevonshire · 06/07/2013 17:30

How much privacy does a 15month old child need FFS? YABVVVU

Here's a stiff upper lip for you.

nenevomito · 06/07/2013 17:32

Bwaaaaahahahahahaa

This isn't serious, right?

BearsInMotion · 06/07/2013 17:39

I thought YABU when I thought you were splitting the cost 50/50. But in fact, you are contributing nothing. Hmm

WestieMamma · 06/07/2013 17:40

I don't believe this is real. Nobody could be this entitled.

forevergreek · 06/07/2013 17:40

Huh?
Why would carrying your 15 month from bath to another room be an issue? At that age I'd be expecting tem to be running off naked after bath and heading out the caravan door.

It's a caravan. Unless its a mutant size I can't see all the effort of having to move from one room to the next, they are about 2 cm away.

ssd · 06/07/2013 17:44

op yu sound like you have issues

your dd 15 months needs privacy from her gp's to get dressed????

hmm

ShatnersBassoon · 06/07/2013 17:45

Disabled FIL just wants easy access to the bathroom, the lazy sod. Tell them to shove their offer, you can't be expected to be flexible on a free holiday.

WestieMamma · 06/07/2013 17:50

Actually there are. My Dad was severely disabled and my Mum was his carer. They went on holiday each year as part of the care packet agreed with social services. They had a choice of an allowance to spend on their holiday of choice or a fully funded holiday in special supported accommodation.

phantomnamechanger · 06/07/2013 17:50

Please do not tell me this is a reverse AIBU - are you paying for the holiday OP? even if you were, if disabled FIL has genuine needs that mean they need the bigger bed/more space/en suite, then you should be considerate enough to accept this.

a disability trumps a baby's bedtime routine in anyone's book!

CharlieBlanche · 06/07/2013 17:54

Bath her in the morning. Bath her earlier.

Buy your PIL a nice pressie as a thank you.

Flobbadobs · 06/07/2013 17:55

Use the sink..
YABU. and entitled.
A toddler having a bath does not trump a disabled person using the bathroom unless you are a spoiled git.

breatheslowly · 06/07/2013 17:55

They are paying for the holiday, even if the holiday allowance is given to them by some sort of scheme. The allowance is given to them and they could choose to spend it on a holiday for just themselves. They have very kindly offered to share it with you. I hope you are able to be gracious about it when you are there. And disabled always 'trumps' small child.

missmapp · 06/07/2013 18:01

We went on holiday with my parents last year, we paid half each but it still didn't cross my minds to not let them have them master bedroom with larger bed and ensuite- they are older, my parents, putting up with my boys when they didn't have to, and worthy of a bit of comfort.

UC · 06/07/2013 18:12

YABVVVVU. Seems we are unanimous on this pretty much too!!!

You're on holiday - must dd have a bath at 6 every night???!!

Your in-laws have booked and invited you along. I would expect them to have the king size and en-suite. AND your FIL is disabled.

Bonkers.

Calabria · 06/07/2013 18:16

I remember a holiday cottage a very long time ago (nineteen sixties) where there was no bathroom at all. It had an outside loo and a tin bath. There is a photo of my toddler sister being bathed in the sink.

Back then bathing once a week was normal so I suspect the rest of us just waited until we got home.

We are off to Devon with my in-laws soon. The place has a lovely king sized bedded room and en-suite facilities. That is for the people who are paying - i.e. not us. We'll just have to rough it in a double. And walk a few steps to another bathroom.

MoonHare · 06/07/2013 18:16

Are you kidding OP???

What everyone else said.

Airwalk79 · 06/07/2013 18:18

We go away to stay with fil in his holiday flat. There's a king size room and a room with two crappy small single beds in.
We would never dream of asking him to give his room up even tho we cram in the small one with 2 dcs.

It's what you get when you get a cheapo holiday by staying with other people.

But hey a small room is not to be sniffed at when its free!

LifeSavedbyLego · 06/07/2013 18:22

Yup YABU. Lordy I go on holiday with my MIL every year - I book it, I pay for it and it simply would not occur to me to give her anything other than the best bedroom with the ensuite but it has now. So that she can have some privacy from us as a family. So she can go to the loo without a child running. Bloody hell I'm not all that keen on detest the woman but surely to crap it is just common courtesy?

I have a wide selections of grips here for you to choose from. Which would you like?

McNewPants2013 · 06/07/2013 18:23

item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=161005405911&cmd=VIDESC

Just buy this baby bath which is for up to 2years.

If I went on free holiday I would be very great full and wouldn't be bitching about sleeping arrangements.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 06/07/2013 18:29

You are being unreasonable. Very, very unreasonable. The pils need the bedroom and ensuite for their needs, its their holiday you are invited on. Either take your dc into the shower, bath them in the sink or use a tub or inflatable bath. Cheap, easy and will give pils their privacy.

MissMarplesBloomers · 06/07/2013 18:30

Sorry you are being PFB about this & BVVVVU.

No way does a babies bath routine & privacy trump that of her disabled GP surely??!

She can have a bath in the mornings or earlier in the day if needed, routines go out the window on holiday really it's half the fun although I know its easier in some ways to try & stick to timings if you can.

nkf · 06/07/2013 18:31

You thought you'd get the master suite did you? Dear me. I don't agree with smacking (who does on MN but if I did you would be.

sameoldIggi · 06/07/2013 19:35

I'm doing something similar with relatives this year, there is one en-suite which grandparents should get but of course my dm is saying we (dh and I) should have it. There will no doubt be a stand off when we arrive, with each insisting on the smaller room.
This is how it should be though, surely.

MayTheOddsBeEverInYourFavour · 06/07/2013 19:48

I am actually gobsmacked at how selfish you sound in your op

It would be bad enough anyway but the fact that your fil is disabled as well just adds extra Shock to the level of your unreasonableness
