To wonder if my DC's have names that are popular and chic now, but will be chavvy in 20 years?

Obviously am not going to name DC's names but I do wonder sometimes if all the Noah's and Darcey's will be thought of as chavvy in 20 years time simply because they're so popular and will be very common.

Look at names like Sharon, Tracey, etc. They were once perfectly acceptable names!

Does anyone have any other predictions for what will be a common and undesirable name in 20 years, that is thought of as a lovely name now?

I think anything that is overly popular ends up being undesirable or just repetitive and boring.

i beg to differ, sharon and traceys were always common names along with debbies michelles and lisas.

noah is biblical - there might be a lot of them but somehow old testament names fall fowl of the chav label IMO - don't know why.

DArceys are chavvy anyway

But Sharon is an Old Testament name - Song of Solomon & the Rose of Sharon & all that. I think it is a lovely name, actually - but unusable now. Noahs beware...!

I agree it's very likely. But then a lot of the classic names come around every second generation and regain popularity. Like Grace, Edith.

Also how about the trend for original names? Ie: Cruz, etc

But what names now are the common ones? I think Noah will be like Edward or Andrew..sort of classic. What names are the Michelles and Lisas for now? (NB - I like Michelle and Lisa, they're just more sort of 'everyman' than, say, Elizabeth or Katherine...)

I just mean the ones that everyone is using right now. Noah, Isabella, etc. the names at the top of the 'top ten' lists.

The Michelle's and Lisa's for now I would say are Darcey, Leila, Ruby.

Eva/Ava, Sophie, Isabelle/Isobel - all v popular, maybe very much/too much to retain some uniqueness. DN is Phoebe, she was one of 4 in her class...

Generally you're safer with traditional names. Leila is Arabic and is therefore a transliteration. There isn't one right spelling.

It's safer if the spelling is trad. For example (glances up thread) Isobel/Isabelle have only become popular recently, but Isabel is more established.

I don't know, but I am glad that my son's name has never been mentioned on any of the name threads on here, either as 'good' or 'bad', so hopefully he won't be attributed any kind of label in the future!

Noah has a long track record ... Grin. They might not think you're chavvy but if your kid looks otherwise very Euro with blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin, I'd probably assume he comes from a sanctimonious bible-bashing sort of family. Which could be quite incorrect but that would be my initial impression.
