To wonder if my DC's have names that are popular and chic now, but will be chavvy in 20 years?

Obviously am not going to name DC's names but I do wonder sometimes if all the Noah's and Darcey's will be thought of as chavvy in 20 years time simply because they're so popular and will be very common.

Look at names like Sharon, Tracey, etc. They were once perfectly acceptable names!

Does anyone have any other predictions for what will be a common and undesirable name in 20 years, that is thought of as a lovely name now?

absent yes I know of a few Judes. It's a literary name though so you're fine. :)

doingthesplitz · 05/07/2013 11:59

I don't think ubiquity makes a name chavvy. Sarah, Emma and Sophie are quite boring names now but they're not chavvy.

I think it's the Kyles and Chantelles that will be the Darrens and Sharons of the future.

""Katie Hopkins admitted she had no time for ?the Tylers, the Charmaines, the Chantelles, the Chardonnays? adding: ?A name for me is an efficient way of working out what class a child comes from, and do I want my child to play with them.?" She added that children with ?intelligent? names were more likely to be ?better playdates? as they would be more likely to have educated parents.

what a snob!

a post a while back was about a lady who had three or four names for her baby who was due soon. I was gobsmacked to see my daughters exact name on this list (first and middle)

I was gutted to see so many people reply and say they didn't like it. -each to their own etc but I was surprised since its a perfectly acceptable combination of very traditional names (spelt properly. .!) traditional enough in that I am yet to come across another child of a similar age with it, but not so traditional it sounds a bit bizarre in this day and age (like sybil! ?)

I personally think her name will stand the test of time, but who knows?

trends change so much- I do wish people will stop making names up though, in an attempt to be 'different'

met a 'Livvyannia' last week. ... O_o

Lots of Amelia's and Charlie's here

DancesWithWoolEnPointe · 05/07/2013 13:04

How has this thread got to 56 responses without attracting the POs?

FayeKorgasm · 05/07/2013 13:43

Very good Russians!

Subtle and wicked!

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 05/07/2013 14:02

I have had so much stick over the years for my name and it has just featured on the list! Sad

Feel free to guess what it is haha!

SaucyJack · 05/07/2013 14:13

Chelsea/Kelsey/Kayla/Keeley/Kayley/Kylie etc will be the Sharon and Traceys of the future.

Especially if hyphenated.

Mouthfulofquiz · 05/07/2013 21:34

There are soooo many Evies round here, it's unbelievable. Evie Grace, Evie Mae, Evie Rose and on and on!

LimitedEditionLady · 05/07/2013 22:37

Amy,charlie,layton,ruby,scarlett,phoebe,Harry my picks!

squoosh · 05/07/2013 22:46

It's very hard to predict how the names of today's very young will be viewed in thirty years time.

It's fascinating how names rise up to a tidal wave of popularity. Ten or twenty years ago who would ever have predicted that names like Ruby and Oliver would become so ubiquitous. People must hear a name like Ellie or Grace over and over again and their brain suddenly clicks 'I like that'. And everyone else brain seems to click at the same time.

I do think Alfie and Archie will be the Gary and Mark of their generation though.

Beaverfeaver · 05/07/2013 22:49

Chloe , Amy, Nikki, (generally names ending in an 'ee' sound, I think are a but chavvy

squoosh · 05/07/2013 22:50

My goddaughter was very nearly called Isabelle, luckily she wasn't as her three best friends in nursery turned out to be Isabelles.

AuntieStella · 05/07/2013 22:51

I haven't met any little boys called Wayne - that was one of the names that Jilly Cooper stereotyped in 'Class' (can't remember her female equivalent). I wonder of any non-fictional girls are Waynetta?

RussiansOnTheSpree · 05/07/2013 22:52

Katie and Poppy are good examples of names ending in 'ee'. Interesting.

Thisvehicleisreversing · 05/07/2013 22:56

12 years ago the name we chose for DS1 was seen as a bit quirky and cool.

Now it's really chavvy Sad

Still pleased he's not one of a million Jacks

Beaverfeaver · 05/07/2013 22:57

Yea, not too find of Katie or poppy.

Or holly, Evie, Lilly, Rosie etc etc ...

miffybun73 · 05/07/2013 23:01

Darcey, Ruby, Evie, Noah, Alfie - all chavtastic :)

SacreBlue · 05/07/2013 23:03

My DS has traditional family name so not worried Grin I di once know a child called Eva-Luna that we thought was a bit ill thought out because people kept thinking it was parent being mean (evil una)

I can't repeat story of DB child's naming in entirety but his gf had chosen middle name and her surname, leaving him to choose first name - I rather ruined his choice by pointing out how it would sound at school if last name was read out, with middle initial, then first name...

Needless to say he choose something else rather than risk poor DC being embarrassed.

squoosh · 05/07/2013 23:04

I've met Darceys, Rubys, Evies, Noahs and Alfies from all sorts of social backgrounds. They're v popular I don't think they're 'chavvy'.

Beaverfeaver · 05/07/2013 23:05

Agree.

Anything that so done has called a pet is also wrong. Which is probably why I do not like any names ending in 'ee' as it just sounds like a name you would give to a dog or cat.

Milly, Molly, billy, poppy, ruby,

Beaverfeaver · 05/07/2013 23:06

Agree with miffybun, I should add

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 05/07/2013 23:09

Oh yes, Noah is totes 'chavvy' , I mean his ark was pimped to the max with bling and he had two staffies on board! Shock

These threads always bring out the arses. And no, I don't have a Noah. Hmm

Beaverfeaver · 05/07/2013 23:13

Lyndsey, vicky, becky too
