Ok it all started a few years ago when I had my colours done, was told I was an Autumn, after hiding in black for years and although I was initially v unhappy with the diagnosis, I eventually accepted it and over time changed my clothes and ditched the black.

I now have a fantastic wardrobe of beautiful colours that really suit my colouring and all match. I often get compliments on what I'm wearing and I know it's just cos I'm wearing the right colours for me.

However, it's meant that I have become a bit of a colour fascist! I have 2 friends with similar colouring to me, pale, freckles, blue/ green eyes and reddish tints in their hair and for ages I have been trying to get them to ditch their black and wear warmer colours to the extent that they call me the fashion police and worry about what they are wearing when they are with me ( in a tongue in cheek way, obviously...)

Also when I see women wearing colours that really don't suit them, I have an overwhelming desire to go up to them and tell them ( obviously I don't, as I don't want a mouthful of abuse and its none of my business..)

But it bugs me! Yesterday I saw a woman with dark hair wearing a black and white jacket, a lime green jumper and cerise lipstick. It was just all wrong!! I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does....What to do??

And Khaleasy where the f*ck did you find those pictures of me at my grandparents' platinum wedding party???

nooka · 04/07/2013 21:20

Most of the time I just wear whatever is least bother. Currently a t-shirt dd tie died in attractive green and pinkish blodges and my favourite beige/khaki capri trousers. It's just good to know that when I need to look good I can :)

My colour person had about 200 scarves on her special rack (it's a franchise type operation I think). I think she probably had an idea as to what colours worked for both of us as soon as we walked in. My little wallet of colours has 36 shades in it, with 12 starred as the best on me. I do feel fabulous when I wear those colours.

I agree that ALL black all the time regardless of shape or style, is not great.

SOME black, the right cut for your figure, whatever the size, is beautiful.

I've been a size 10 up tp a size 20.. I'm surfing at around a 16, would like to be a 13.

Whatever size I've been the cut is the killer.

Black suits me. I struggle to find gorgeous black tops that suit me these days because Black is supposedly BAD... it's annoying.

Tell her to wear a skirt or trousers for one thing, she'll catch her death!

This thread so late. Bit of a Freudian typo there!

I don't really notice what other people wear tbh, I notice if they smile and look friendly. Couldn't give a fuck what they are wearing.

UptheChimney · 04/07/2013 21:38

And yes it does make a difference what colours you wear, especially as you get older

Make a difference about what? And how old? As old as this amazing woman?

Having your colours done' creates a system for people who struggle with picking clothes that suit them. It's a bit like putting stabilisers on a bike. If you're a competent cyclist you have no need for them

This. I suppose if you don't have a strong sense of personal style or taste, it helps.

I dress in the winter of my discontent. Does that count?

My fucking worst nightmare is inadvertently making the kind of friend who would try to pass off nosy control freakery I'm-going-to-tell-you-what-to-wear shittery as 'caring for me'. If that happened I'd have to smite them dead - in public if need be and then I'd have to spend a whole load of time in prison munching chuff and dressing in leggings!

I always wore black because I was edgy and cool, right?
As I got older I realised it made me look shit so I decided to brighten myself up. I now wear grey almost all the time.
I'm like a new woman. I think it complements my grey pallor.

cocolepew · 04/07/2013 22:03

I worked with a woman who had had her colours done at some PTA crap. She became an expert in fashion because if this, and regularly told me I dressed too young wrong. She was like a walking advert for Bon Marche.

Oh dear, people have got unecessarily het haven't they?

OP - I know what you mean. It's not about looking down at people, more a sudden realisation that no, black does not go with everything, even if the rest of the world still seems to think it does.

I'm an autumn too!

HoneyDragon · 04/07/2013 22:26

I know plenty of people who have had their colours done, some mnetters. But not one of them has been an arse about it, or told me on a night out I look shit.

crashdoll · 04/07/2013 22:46

How do you know that we don't look gorgeous?! Also, can we please see a photo of you in your lovely clothes so we can ascertain if you are gorgeous?
