Ok it all started a few years ago when I had my colours done, was told I was an Autumn, after hiding in black for years and although I was initially v unhappy with the diagnosis, I eventually accepted it and over time changed my clothes and ditched the black.

I now have a fantastic wardrobe of beautiful colours that really suit my colouring and all match. I often get compliments on what I'm wearing and I know it's just cos I'm wearing the right colours for me.

However, it's meant that I have become a bit of a colour fascist! I have 2 friends with similar colouring to me, pale, freckles, blue/ green eyes and reddish tints in their hair and for ages I have been trying to get them to ditch their black and wear warmer colours to the extent that they call me the fashion police and worry about what they are wearing when they are with me ( in a tongue in cheek way, obviously...)

Also when I see women wearing colours that really don't suit them, I have an overwhelming desire to go up to them and tell them ( obviously I don't, as I don't want a mouthful of abuse and its none of my business..)

But it bugs me! Yesterday I saw a woman with dark hair wearing a black and white jacket, a lime green jumper and cerise lipstick. It was just all wrong!! I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does....What to do??

Aldi-I love black too and only feel comfortable in black tops and then I brighten them up with scarves, cardis etc. I can just about stretch to navy but only just.

It's totally up to you KingRollo, I don't think I threw anything out, just bought some new things in the new colours and found that I wasn't really wearing the old ones that weren't 'right' much anymore.

It's hard to explain without visuals, but some colours really made my friend look good, and others were sort of 'flat' on her. For me it's more about colours that make my skin tones look pink (flattering) or yellow (much less so!).

People who are happy with their stye don't I think tend to go and see colour/style consultants, so it's not really that relevant to them. I was in a bit of a reinvention phase, and buying a fair amount of professional clothes, so I was keen to get them right as a) I hate shopping and b) I was spending a fair bit of money.

Is there anything wrong with black? It's not a colour that suits me (I like chocolate, dark purple, navy and charcoal instead) but I'm sure for lots of other people it looks fantastic.

Have ordered the book btw and some for christmas presents. Hope they are taken kindly Blush!

I have a horrible suspision that the colours that may end up suiting me are lime green and mustard, or some other ghastly colours.
I have never worn anything yet where literally anyone has said "ooh, that colour suits you".

People have told me I suit red.

I think it brings out the redness in my eyes. Grin

I saw a woman who was about 10stone overweight and dressed in what appeared to be a very stretchy condom.

that is cringey.

God forbid if it was a red condom though, she had brown hair!

I think I will start a whole new thread about wearing black. I literally lived in black cos I thought it made me look slimmer. It doesn't. You just look like a block. I also weirdly feel happier in colours that suit me. Most pale skinned women actually done don't suit black, it's v draining on the complexion. It's also dull, boring and lazy. Bring back Trinny and Suzzanah I say!!

Trinny and whatsherface were so wrong so many times.

Black is slimming. If it makes you look like a block? You are probably shaped like a block.

Just sayin'...

How can people get to be adults and not know what the second world is/was?

How do they work out your colours then? Drape a scarf around your face? I went to an Amway party years ago and someone did my colours there, all with scarves (gold or silver, white or cream, turquoise and green). It all seemed like a load of bollocks.

I wear black. Like my soul.

I much prefer Trinmy and Susannah to that twat Gok Wan. And what was that ghastly woman with the long face and afghan hound hair called? Nicky double barrelled something. Cow.

I wear black, white and red at the same time.

I'm scared I look like a penguin with a nose bleed now.

LeGav Nicky Hambleton-Jones, she used to do Ten Years Younger where they made strangers insult someone in the street until they cried and then gave them plastic surgery.

I think there is a line to be drawn.

Where what is flattering and makes you happy - yes. But sometimes people may need a bit of guidance

I sympathise, OP.

I have some neighbours who have a pink magnolia underplanted with red tulips, and I am genuinely saddened and distressed each time I walk past when they're in flower.

The funny thing is that my (male) cousin and uncle are the same - their jobs involve a very precise analysis and memory of colour, and they have an impressive memory for good / bad colour combinations. My cousin recently commented to me about an outfit I wore for another cousin's wedding, about fifteen years ago.

In black that is: happy to accept that you might OP, but you are using the second person here!

No probably more like a copy of the Daily Mirror (just kidding...sounds lush!)

Honestly OP I really think that wearing what you love and your favourite colours/shapes is WAY more important than adopting a prescribed palette. Your posts shriek self confidence and high self esteem and good on you. If you think that comes from wearing 'your' colour, knock yourself out, but I KNOW (as you have promised) that you will have the good taste not to inflict this on anyone else

Tee, that's just mean. I'm a size l14-16, so curvy and huge boobs which was why I wanted to hide my shape. Think I'm on to a loser here so will give up now. Defeated. L:(
