Ok it all started a few years ago when I had my colours done, was told I was an Autumn, after hiding in black for years and although I was initially v unhappy with the diagnosis, I eventually accepted it and over time changed my clothes and ditched the black.

I now have a fantastic wardrobe of beautiful colours that really suit my colouring and all match. I often get compliments on what I'm wearing and I know it's just cos I'm wearing the right colours for me.

However, it's meant that I have become a bit of a colour fascist! I have 2 friends with similar colouring to me, pale, freckles, blue/ green eyes and reddish tints in their hair and for ages I have been trying to get them to ditch their black and wear warmer colours to the extent that they call me the fashion police and worry about what they are wearing when they are with me ( in a tongue in cheek way, obviously...)

Also when I see women wearing colours that really don't suit them, I have an overwhelming desire to go up to them and tell them ( obviously I don't, as I don't want a mouthful of abuse and its none of my business..)

But it bugs me! Yesterday I saw a woman with dark hair wearing a black and white jacket, a lime green jumper and cerise lipstick. It was just all wrong!! I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does....What to do??

'Once you hit 60, you can only wear beige.'

My children may think that. They have a shock coming in a few years time!
Oh Yes. Grin

MrsBungle · 04/07/2013 19:49

Lol at "diagnosis" like it's a condition to wear colours op doesn't think suit!

hermioneweasley · 04/07/2013 19:49

OP, it's weird because when I see people in "autumn" colours, I always think - they've had their colours done. Because nobody else wears these weird colours. But i don't experience an overwhelming desire to go "pssst, you look like a twat", I just let people be. Grin

Eyesunderarock · 04/07/2013 19:52

This thread should be in the niche labelled Style & Beauty, where the OP would encounter People Who Understand.
You could ask it to be moved away from the barbarian hordes OP.

I've just downloaded the app. I don't think I've ever done anything that could be described as suburban before. What will happen if my tattoos are the wrong colour for my skin?

Hopefully · 04/07/2013 20:00

Kiss my tattoos aren't in my colours and I'm a consultant. I've coped Grin

MadBusLady · 04/07/2013 20:01

There's no such thing as universal "autumn colours". You see magazines doing silly versions of this with "autumns" wearing autumn leaves colours, that's obviously rubbish, you can't dress 1/4 of the population in russet. There's just particular versions of all colours which will suit certain people better than other versions.

Yes I did kinda wish with hindsight I'd put it in s&b. People are nice there....and my friends love me and know I only say stuff cos I care about them! Still it's all a laugh tho in it, and I now know that most people won't appreciate me saying things to them. And to those of you who seem to think I'm a superficial test and should 'volunteer', I'll have you know I've spent most of my career working in charities. Is it not possible to do a worthwhile job AND have an interest in style...?

Meant to say 'twat', not 'test' Bloody autocorrect...

'I think I'm "Nuclear Winter"'

I think I'm rainbow with a leaning towards peacock with added sequins. And small bells for special occasions.

redrubyshoes · 04/07/2013 20:11

I work in a very stressful job and have a capsule wardrobe so I can roll out of bed and not have to think about what I wear.

I buy the same black top that I like in multiples of four.

Eyesunderarock · 04/07/2013 20:12

You can be a virtuous woman and an officious busy body at the same time OP.

MadBusLady · 04/07/2013 20:13

Grin at "nuclear winter".

Scarletohello · 04/07/2013 20:14

Eyes, that made me laugh! I have a thing about apostrophes too, but that's already been done to death in pendants corner...

KingRollo, I don't know about this in any great detail, but I think the House of Colour (who I saw) have 12 palettes, with a sort of seasonal wheel. So four seasons with three shades in each. My colours are mostly deep bright ones, and I have a little book of swatches of colour with notes on them as to which look OK, good, and really good on me.

The test is a bit like having your eyes tested, but with swatches of colour (a whole load of scarfs really). I wouldn't have put much credence on it, but watching the lady work with my friend the right colours really did bring her face alive.

I have found it helpful, as I say I enjoy shopping more now and have fewer mistakes shoved down the back of the cupboard! I am sure most people don't need any help with their wardrobes, but I was happy for the guidance!

I have a pile of t-shirts, all sorts of colours, i never buy them, either freebee, hand me downs, all sorts of odds and sods, mainly crew t-shirts from some event or another, I grab the one on the top, out it on change it when it grubby, most have holes.

I have a pile of jeans mostly cast off from friends, I buy about a pair a year, about one complete pair, then they get shorter in length, according to holes, when a hole gets to big, I cut them off at that point,

i have a pile of holey jumpers mostly cast offs, and some fleeces,

about eight pairs of pants, which range from holey to just about pass muster, buy a pack about every eighteen months. and about four bras.

and a pair of climbing/ walking trousers, and a few waterproofs, and a pile of wet suits.

a pair of walking boots, gaiters, climbing shoes, some water sport shoes, a pair of crocs, steel toe cap boots, and an pair of rock trainers.

my interest in clothes extends to, is it comfortable for weather and activity.

drives my MiL and SiLs totally nuts, two of which are fashion buyers.

they have break downs in the run up to an event.

What...the fuck....is "having your colours done"???

I've literally never heard of it before. Do people really pay other people to tell them what colours suit them? Confused

I'm tall, pale skinned, white blonde hair (bleached)

I live in monochrome...all about blacks, greys and layers for me.

I have heterochromia though - one eye is brown, one is blue with a dash of brown - would I have to wear different colours on each side of my body?

redexpat · 04/07/2013 20:35

YANBU! I'm a spring.

Shadows that made me laugh out loud! As it happens my sisters and I were done after my Mum was done. SHe really IS Bridget Jones' mother!

HoneyDragon · 04/07/2013 20:37

Op, to be fair - you did the venting and judging based on your superior dress sense in your op.

We all just milled around going "wtaf?" Whilst wearing clothing not assigned a season.

YouTheCat · 04/07/2013 20:39

Well I'll take Quoteunquote as my fashion guru if it's all the same. Grin

Tee2072 · 04/07/2013 20:39

I'm currently in my pajamas.

What season do they belong to?

aldiwhore · 04/07/2013 20:40

I know what colours suit me, but they just so happen to be the few colours I loathe.

I'd rather wear colours I love, they make me feel fabulous, I don't care if I get no compliments or some crazy lady thinks my look is 'all wrong'.

I ADORE black. It also suits me well enough. I am getting fed up with the 'black is bad' mentality, black is beautiful.

Eyesunderarock · 04/07/2013 20:41

Wear rainbows.
