or even garlic bread with a pasta dish?

Have people not heard of carb overload Confused.

OP posts:
Remotecontrolduck · 23/06/2013 22:05

I have garlic bread with pasta, sometimes pizza too. Depends how much pizza I'm having, and only with thin crusts otherwise i find it a bit too 'carby' (need a better word)

I wouldn't have pizza and chips though!

I have salad with most things, because I enjoy it.

I don't obsess over food at all, but if you were to eat shitloads of carbs multiple times a week with no moderation you're going to be overweight most likely. Fair enough if you're not particularly bothered though!

marriedinwhiteagain · 23/06/2013 22:06

That BIWI is why you is a size 10 and I is a size 14Grin.

My skinniest was 7st 8lb. I once lived on the edge of an eating disorder. I am glad I now love food, includong carbs and have for 25 years. I would like to be thiner but I don't want to go back there.

shallweshop · 23/06/2013 22:07

BIWI - you are wrong, I so would not like to read that but thanks anyway. I think I will just enjoy eating and drinking everything in moderation.

EvaM · 23/06/2013 22:13

Pizza and chips - the essence of Britishness to me.

On my first trip to England (school trip) we were warned that we might be served this by the host familes and not to be rude about it or seem astonished or comment on the carb overload.

I was served this and took it in my stride.

I don't necessarily subscribe to British Food Bashing, lots of it is actually really nice. But pizza and chips is a ridiculous combination (pizza and garlic bread nicer but also something I've only seen done over here. It's lovely with a nice steak)

BIWI · 23/06/2013 22:18

It's not me that's wrong, shallweshop. But if you're not prepared to read anything to expand your understanding/knowledge, that's up to you

married - size 8 jeans now Grin

ThisReallyIsNotSPNopeNotAtAll · 23/06/2013 22:22

You can get a Bolognese pizza too!

I've just ordered kebab meat and chips but that's ok as its not too many carbs and there is a salad.

Balanced meal Grin

YummyYummyYum · 23/06/2013 22:26

I do it occasionally (Gluten free pizza and chips) and I weight 2 pounds less than before being pregnant. I am a size 8/10. Not obese.

mercury7 · 23/06/2013 22:27

pizza is just fancy cheese on toast..you'd not have chips with cheese on toast now would you Hmm

I always thought tinned spagetti on toast was an odd thing to have, because it's wheat on wheat, some consider it an alternative to beans on toast which is a much more 'rational' combination of grains & legumes Wink

marriedinwhiteagain · 23/06/2013 22:27

Up yours BIWI. [Grin]. Adjusts waistband and checks ankles. Goes to pour snifter of Jamiesons - sob! OK though.

SirChenjin · 23/06/2013 22:28

It depends what the rest of your lifestyle is like. Pizza and chips once in a while as part of a lifestyle which includes a balanced diet and plenty of exercise = meh, no biggie.

ToysRLuv · 23/06/2013 22:29

Carbs with carbs. It's a no from me. Chip or crisp butty, anyone? How is that appetising? It's just beige Confused

marriedinwhiteagain · 23/06/2013 22:30

Esp when DH was 14st 6lb this morning!! Ha ha.

Sallystyle · 23/06/2013 22:32

I love Pizza and chips!

I exercise, I am a healthy weight so will eat them when I fancy it!

ToysRLuv · 23/06/2013 22:32

Agree about the spaghetti hoops on toast, as well.. My DH likes it, though, as well as crisp butties weirdo

StuntGirl · 23/06/2013 22:35

Tonight we had a Nigella recipe for dinner which was called pasta alla genovese - potatoes, spaghetti pasta and green beans in a pesto sauce. Wonder what the double carb police would make of that Grin

ToysRLuv · 23/06/2013 22:36

Neither of us are obese. It's just differences in taste I could quite happily eat a whole family pizza on my own if I were in that way inclined, but hold the chips, please

blueemerald · 23/06/2013 22:47

Curry Pizza may be a thing in some parts of the country but once a week?! And she ordered the separate parts from two different take always. I just couldn't get my head around it (and I'm no size 8 food police type!).

StuntGirl · 23/06/2013 23:22

My partners family have takeaway once a week, always have apparently. I suspect partly because they had 6 kids and couldn't be arsed with the washing up by the end of the week Grin

I know he wishes we could carry on that tradition but 1. We are not made of money (although the chips from the Chinese chippy are v. cheap and ginormous portions and now I'm making myself want some...) and 2. Just no. I don't think do enough to burn off a weekly takeaway!

EMUZ · 24/06/2013 00:57

I am low carb but now I could really murder a chip barm. With scraps on the side GrinGrin

MusicalEndorphins · 24/06/2013 04:50

I don't know anyone who eats chips and pizza or chips and pasta, but I know many who eat bread with pasta. Including myself until dh was diagnosed with diabetes. Now we try and eat balanced meals.

TheSkiingGardener · 24/06/2013 06:03

Carb heaven - spaghetti bolognese in a baguette. Just lovely.

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning · 24/06/2013 06:11

Pizza and potato strange? You only have to look at tge menus for papa johns, pizza hut and dominos all sell wedges so can't be that strange (they also do garlic bread)

TheRealFellatio · 24/06/2013 06:18

Would you ever get anyone serving chips with pizza in Italy? I doubt it.

TheRealFellatio · 24/06/2013 06:20

I always thought tinned spagetti on toast was an odd thing to have, because it's wheat on wheat, some consider it an alternative to beans on toast which is a much more 'rational' combination of grains & legumes

Yes! Thank you! this has bothered me forever.

Rosa · 24/06/2013 06:31

Chips on the side with pizza no but a Pizza Patatosa does exist on many pizzeria menus in Italy - pizza with chips on top. They look generally slimey and soggy....
