Its perfectly normal for people who don't obsess over food and follow faddy diets.

lasagne has to go with salad, and a small amount of garlic bread. Lasagne and chips is very strange!

We had pasta and garlic bread for dinner tonight.
We had a smaller portion of pasta because of the garlic bread and a shit load of salad which cancels out the bad stuff.
I thought everyone had garlic bread with pasta ?

its fine as long as its in proportion and not every day
one carb heavy meal a week is not an issue and garlic bread and pizza go well together

me and dh have been known to have Chinese and chips, tastes great

Yes, exactly!!! If we order in a pizza we order a garlic bread too. For the amount of times we actually order pizza in, I really wouldn't lose any sleep over carb overload!

And actually I have a complex carb rich diet as I work out and it gives me the energy I need in the way I need it.

I love garlic bread and would happily eat it with everything if I could stupid bloody Slimming World, so YABU in my opinion.

Yes it is carbtastic to have any of those combos, but a little carb overload once in a while is fine. Eating it daily or even weekly is not fine, but neither is it fine to do many things that frequently. Have you never indulged in one too many glasses of wine? Or gone mad with junk food at Christmas? In moderation, splurging is fine.

The key is balance, and that's what many people's diets lack these days. If you eat properly 90% of the time, no harm will come from having garlic bread with your pizza!

I don't think it has anything to do with 'obsessing about food' or 'faddy diets'- they simply don't go together.

Pizza with chips??!! I've never heard of that before. An extraordinary combination, so no YANBU with that one!

Garlic bread with pizza is more 'normal' I think, in that many restaurants might serve it on the side. I personally wouldn't want it, except possibly with a very thin crusted pizza to make it more filling.

Double carbing is only acceptable when suffering a stinking hangover.

In Scotland they sniff at mere double carbing they are supporters of carbs within carbs. I give you the macaroni cheese pie!

I normally think that one source of carbs is enough and wouldn't have chips with pizza. But tonight's curry is coming with rice, naan and bombay potato.

Chips with pizza can be a way to make an expensive food stretch.

Oh and squoosh for Scottish delicacies have you heard of the deep fried pizza - was a new one on me when I arrived.

It depends on how much you eat really.

I only eat a couple of slices of pizza, so I'll have a couple of slices of garlic bread too.

My friend can eat an entire medium deep pan and still have room for garlic bread and salad.

I don't think pizza and chips is a great combo though, but that's just personal taste.

I give my DCs a couple of slices of pizza with chips or garlic bread or even dough balls occasionally. No big deal. No Italians don't do it but there is a bit of a tradition in this country, certainly where I am from, to have a few slices of bread and butter withyour meal. Probably left over from when people were skint and used to fill up on bread.

I remember having curried rice and chips from the chippy back in my student days. Yum.

Everything in moderation is fine IMHO.

What do you eat garlic bread with, then? I'm trying to think of the last occasion when I had garlic bread without also having pizza or pasta.

Also, pizza + garlic bread is no more a carb overload than the apparently acceptable pizza + more pizza. I mean, it isn't as though people are thinking "mmm, pizza, what shall I have with it - garlic bread or steamed broccoli?" is it? They're thinking "mmm, pizza, shall I have a small one with garlic bread or a large one on its own?". If they're thinking, obv.

Chips with pizza - that's what we do when there isn't enough pizza to go around.

Anyone remember Pizzaland? A platter consisted of pizza and a baked sud. Grin

I agree with thebody Ds1 (13) wouldn't feel full with one slice of pizza and nothing else. And he's skinny as anything.

Well I eat salad with pizza (if I'm making it). If it was from Pizza Hut or something (rare) I'd have it on its own but I certainly don't think it's weird or odd that some folk might have chips with it.

I do take exception to no garlic bread with pasta. I always have garlic bread with pasta! Infact I'm about to have lasagne, salad and garlic bread.

People are starving in the world and you're worried about whether the slice of bread someone else is eating is topped with garlic butter or tomato and cheese? Does it matter?

Have you ever eaten tandoori chicken, rice and potatoes and naan bread? Yum.

I also can't eat spaghetti bolognese without a buttered slice of bread.

I like pizza with jacket potato, which used to be offered in pizza restaurants but doesn't seem to be these days. My ds likes pizza and garlic bread. I can't see it matters as long as it's not your 7 nights a week diet. In addition we have peas or sweetcorn and salad with these.

But I wouldn't eat chips with pizza. A couple of times on holiday we've eaten sandwiches, salad and chips as our main meal when there's been no other suitable vegetarian meal (we're vegetarian). The hot chips kind of make it into a hot meal. Otherwise it's like having sandwiches for dinner.

If you disapprove of the double carbing of garlic bread & pizza/pasta, what do you eat it with?
