to not understand why some posts get deleted

What do you have to say to get a post deleted? What breaks the guidelines? Honest question... I'm intrigued. So many posts have serious swearing so it can't be that.

OP posts:

Accusing someone outright of being a troll
Being abusive to someone - swearing at them, so just being sweary
Libel
Posting non-Aibu questions in AIBU
Dunno - look on Talk Guidelines

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 21/06/2013 20:43

so not just being sweary

farewellfigure · 21/06/2013 20:47

Ah OK thanks. I've never been quick enough to read one before it was deleted!

Nothing to do with swearing.

Personal attack is a biggy. Especially now people use passive personal attack, MNHQ will delete comments that are general but clearly directed at an individual.

Legal issues is another big issue. So if someone names someone who has a court order precluding it. Or if someone says something about a celebrity which could give rise to legal action.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 21/06/2013 20:50

You know you can get your own posts deleted too (or you can at least ask - they don't have to do it but it's worth asking)? Just report your own post.

You know, something like "Dear MNHQ, please delete my post because I seem to have been a complete cow to the OP", or "I have told the whole world my name, bra size and the ages of all my children"

farewellfigure · 21/06/2013 20:53

Ha ha thank you thumbtack. I'm waiting to see how long it takes. (I'm not btw).

OP posts:
SinisterSal · 21/06/2013 20:54

It used to be a personal attack 'You are a bitch'
Now it's oblique personal attacks also. 'You remind me of my SIL. She is a bitch'

Thumbtack · 21/06/2013 20:55

I think the posts 'withdrawn at the posters request' are even more intriguing than if a posts been deleted for breaking talk guidelines.

The talk guidelines are Right There ^
Or you can choose the Thumper from Bambi school:
"If you can't say something nice... don't say nothing at all."

OliviaMMumsnet · 21/06/2013 21:18
