Re Potato Wedges and DH - he has agreed to abide by MN decision (trivial)

So MN jury its up to you - DH has agreed that whatever you decide, he will stick with...

Last night we were discussing what to have for tea tonight - agreed quiche and salad. He eats half of a family size quiche.

He thinks this is insufficient (with salad - bog standard so I don't drip feed, lettuce, tomato and cucumber), so I am doing potato wedges with it.

The wedges are big. He wants FIVE. I told him this was pure gluttony and three would be sufficient. He thinks I'm being silly.

Do you count out the peas on a plate too? Strange people.

Liege actually the discussion started last night.

I am not sure that I can convincingly argue my case on the basis of this thread but I honestly do not normally restrict DH's food intake. Last night he had loads of wedges and I didn't count.

It was the quiche that has thrown me. I think I assumed it was a sort of self contained meal Blush

I count three decent sized potatoes per portion when I do mash, so I would probably still be hungry after quiche and three wedges, and want the same again; and I'm 5"2 and not overweight!

Oblomov now you're making me hungry and contemplating abandoning my desk where I'm not working anyway and setting out in search of quiche...! Grin

So you're cooking frozen wedges two nights in a row? How terribly unhealthy Wink Grin

omg I wish I could get away with that for tea!! Give him 5 fgs.

He is going to have at least 7 of the feckers now.

And a big half of the quiche.

And perhaps some crusty bread.

And pudding.

Just to prove to MN that I am not a stingy cow who refuses to feed people proper portions of food.

wonders now about every meal I have every cooked for friends and if they went home and bought some chips

Haha at this thread.

Has anyone ate a whole bag of those wedges to themselves? Doused in mayonnaise?

Homemade ones are lovely, covered in oil, salt and paprika, but sometimes life gives you a day where chopping a large spud into wedge shapes would just about finish you off, so shaking a bag into a tray it is. Grin

Another quick wedge recipe:-

peel pots, slice into wedges, drizzle olive oil over and sprinkle cajun spice liberally(schwartz), place onto baking tray 150 degrees for 30 mins.

Healthier, bigger wedges for hubs, my DS says they are 'dank'!

I remember going to a friend's house for dinner when i was a child and I was given ONE fishfinger, a scoop of mash (like at school, who uses an ice cream scoop for mash at home?) and a spoonful of tinned peas.

It was like a joke on a plate.

coconuts it is. But I want to use up the salad before it goes off. Then its pasta and risotto later in the week please no-one ask if the risotto is homemade

You will all be delighted to know that I have delivered the verdict to DH. He said it is the first time I have ever admitted to BU and thanks you all for the support in his victory. He likes the idea that my viewpoint was widely condemned.

I honestly cannot understand why I thought 5 was excessive. Particularly as I do often cook a few extra if DD eats them (rare potato) a further 3-4 tend to fall onto the tray so that I can eat them with mayo secretly in the kitchen

Orf I am revising mealtimes for DD when friends come over.

not that I have ever served a single fish finger, of course not

OK ... whilst we are condemning me...

Would it be stingy to give a child one of these fish fingers for tea (with other things) www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Breaded-Cod-Fingers-Waitrose/24518011?from=shop&tags=|20911|20930|13633|38145&parentContainer=|20911|20930|13633|38145_SHELFVIEW

They are 66g each so equal to two normal fish fingers.

This thread is a revelation to me. I always considered myself to be generous. But apparently I am horribly stingy with food!

mwahahah

I still have days when I make a meal that when I was planning it sounded completely reasonable, then DH finishes it in 2 minutes and I'm appalled I ever thought it would be enough. It usually involves quiche Grin

Depends on how old the child. My 22 months DD will eat two or three normal sized ones

I'm more shocked that you actually count the wedges Confused.

I just put a few on a small section of the plate as with all food?

Report
Oblomov · 18/06/2013 12:37

Ha, Ha. I am the total opposite. I like to feed them so much they can barely get out the door, when their parents come to pick them up.

"Oh go on, I'm sure you can manage another yorkshire pudding, we normally have 3 here".
Childs eyes open up with glee.
"but make sure you leave enough room for pudding".
Child" It's great here. Can I come again soon".

Mrs Oblomov glides off in warm aura ......

Yes, I think one would be totally stingy. Obviously depends on age of child, but mine would certainly have eaten 2 once they were 5+ ( and they are neither overweight nor over-eaters, as adults )
Report
MsGee · 18/06/2013 12:37

I don't normally count wedges! Honest!

I just didn't realise you needed anything else with quiche other than salad.

I grew up in the 70's - tea was a slice of ham, lettuce and tomato and half a boiled potato Grin
