Re Potato Wedges and DH - he has agreed to abide by MN decision (trivial)

So MN jury its up to you - DH has agreed that whatever you decide, he will stick with...

Last night we were discussing what to have for tea tonight - agreed quiche and salad. He eats half of a family size quiche.

He thinks this is insufficient (with salad - bog standard so I don't drip feed, lettuce, tomato and cucumber), so I am doing potato wedges with it.

The wedges are big. He wants FIVE. I told him this was pure gluttony and three would be sufficient. He thinks I'm being silly.

Seriously, add some frozen veg or something rather than more wedges!!

You can eat healthy from the freezer. Really you can.

Ok, summary so far: IABU. Not only am I stingy but I can't cook.

I do not normally decide food portions for DH and if you compare me to his mother than is a whole other thread of bonkers MIL

Although I have never had a frozen jacket potato. I can cook those.

Dp eats half a quiche and if we have salad and wedges he has at least 10 large wedges, I give the kids 6-7 each! I usually make them myself and they are a lot bigger than the shop bought ones.

flowery · 18/06/2013 11:14

I make my own wedges. I do no cooking at all but wedges are the one thing I do make. Cut up potato, toss in oil with a bit of salt, put in oven. Ta da! Am domestic goddess.

Half a quiche is about 500 calories, totally inadequate main meal for a six foot man.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 18/06/2013 11:16

I would eat more than 5 wedges, they aren't huge.
I was expecting giant sized wedges Grin

Ds1 and 2 would eat the whole bag between them. And still be hungry.

Just going off the subject a bit, would you actually open a bag and only cook 3?
Because I wouldn't bother. It's a bloody waste of gas just cook 3 little wedges.
I would cook at least half the bag or not bother cooking any.

(I am also hiding from piles of work on my desk, hence the fascination with wedges)

My ds1 won't eat quiche either. It is "not a dinner" apparently. It's something that you eat half of, cold, out of the fridge, in 3 seconds as a snack.

He actually gets on my nerves tbh. The boy can eat.
He is 6ft and never puts on weight.
AND he uses all my sodding milk making "protein shakes" which will apparently bulk up his body.

There is nothing more annoying than people who want to put on weight

flowery · 18/06/2013 11:17

I think your dinner sounds nice OP. Envy I love quiche but because DH doesn't we don't really eat it.

Latara · 18/06/2013 11:18

Hmmm.... Quiche has pastry. Pastry is a carbohydrate, as are Potato Wedges.

If he's slim and exercises then he could have 5 potato wedges with the quiche and salad. (Men need more calories after all).

If he's overweight and a couch potato then just give him quiche with lots of salad. Or cut the pastry off the quiche and give him 3 potato wedges.

MsGee · 18/06/2013 11:19

Maryz There isn't much else in the cupboards to be honest so he doesn't really raid. I did promise him pudding tonight though (fruit, meringue and yoghurt). I am honestly not stingy with other meals - I tend to overdo pasta and other things. Clearly quiche is a blind spot for me.

And he won't cook - not as a stance, just has no interest in it and would happily live off ready meals.

I do cook sometimes though - we honestly don't only eat frozen stuff. It just has to be quick and easy like pasta or chilli.

I used to cook a lot but I don't anymore because
(1) DD has major food issues (she is not eating this meal) and I used to end up upset after every meal that she wouldn't eat what I had spent an hour slaving over so I am taking a step back
(2) I work from home (or MN from home) and to fit work in school hours I have to work in the evenings, so something has to give - which is cooking.

Still shaking head in wonder at frozen mash. Woah.

WilsonFrickett · 18/06/2013 11:20

I totally have tonnes of work to do too. But I'd rather talk about wedges. Or eat wedges.

Maryz you are right. I can also add avoiding work because of MN to the list of faults.

DH is not overweight and exercises regularly. He has a long day at work (out 11-12 hours) so probably hungry when he gets home. I am starting to feel quite sorry for him now. Should I buy him a cake to say sorry for starving him for years? Or just more veg?

I wouldn't just cook three wedges. I would also be heating up the quiche and I would cook three for myself.

Now the whole bag is going in the oven. Grin

Latara · 18/06/2013 11:24

I have housework and paperwork to do. I'd rather be discussing potato wedges Grin

Scruffey · 18/06/2013 11:24

Give the man the food!
Salad and quiche is not substantial for a big hungry man unless the quiche is really huge.

flowery · 18/06/2013 11:24

"flowery

That would involve making two separate dinners, so no. I make up for it if we go out for lunch or something though. :)

Latara · 18/06/2013 11:24

Sounds like he should have 5 potato wedges with the quiche then.

MsGee · 18/06/2013 11:26

Maryz that is ok - years ago I would have laughed at me too.

DH does still wears clothes from 20 years ago. He just stays slim, whereas I battle every calorie and pound. He has just upped his exercise to keep trim as he gets older.

True story (and outs self) - years ago he started to put on weight. Decided perhaps it was time to cut out his 'mid morning burger' - and lost the weight.

If I had a mid morning burger every day I would be enormous.
