Is just seems like another bit of benefit bashing to me.

I know she shouldn't have had children she couldn't afford, but what hope of improving her lot???

The government makes it very difficult for lone parent mothers to 'retrain' for any kind of work.

Ashoething · 12/06/2013 20:03

If we stopped working tomorrow beer-we wouldn't get anywhere near what this woman gets as we chose not to have 7 kids.I also believe if you willingly give up paid employment then there are sanctions? but don't let that get in the way of your wee story. But then neither will she for much longer....

HollyBerryBush · 12/06/2013 20:03

fasterstronger

Read the article - two of her children have congenital complaints. DLA is not means tested.

Call me foolish or stupid or indeed uneducated in the ways of the welfare state - but even I know people rightly claim DLA, and I'm again, not stupid enough to not know the money paid out.

I will say it again - no one objects to the welfare state as a safety blanket - people object to it as a life style choice.

Having a 99% accurate guess that the woman in the article had 2 disabled children, she is either very misinformed if she isn't claiming, and thus her allegation she cant afford to bring her children up on 24K pa means she isn't actually getting 24Kpa but somewhere nearer 32K plus carers - another 4k?

usualsuspect · 12/06/2013 20:05

So you still think single parents on on benefits are mostly druggies and alkies then?

AmberLeaf · 12/06/2013 20:05

Faster, I have no idea if she is or is not getting DLA. someone else said they had 'read further' and found that to be true. [possibly to show how she is 'raking it in' but ignoring the issue of having and caring for a disabled child and the issues that brings]

if she was a carer she would not be unemployed?

I am a carer in receipt of carers allowance...I am also officially unemployed.

Carer in that sense is being a carer for a disabled child or for a family member, you can work and earn up to £100 per week and still claim carers allowance though.

So again, no idea if her child gets DLA or if she gets carers allowance, but apparently she has a child with SNs and that can be a big barrier to getting and keeping a job.

Ashoething · 12/06/2013 20:06

What kind of training is required to be a cleaner?-my mothers 2nd job btw-as she doesn't earn a good wage but has too much pride to have lived her life on benefits.

IneedAsockamnesty · 12/06/2013 20:06

A decent society looks after its most vulnerable-that is the ill, disabled and carers imo. Not those who view benefits as a lifestyle choice and whose massive sense of entitlement is being payed for by those who have no choice but to go out to work

This woman is a carer.

usualsuspect · 12/06/2013 20:07

Has your neighbour with the lavish lifestyle on benefits got 7 children? Ashoething

Ashoething · 12/06/2013 20:08

No I wasn't saying that at all usual-I was saying that people who grew up in exactly the same kind of circumstances that I did with exactly the same opportunities decided to live a life on benefits and pursue their lifestyle of drinks and drugs. They made a choice-they are not the victims people on this thread are making them out to be.

Bonquers · 12/06/2013 20:08

I agree that the Govt makes it difficult for single mothers to work.

I am frequently horrified at how much money they are given . There is simply no incentive for ill educated single mothers to seek work.

Two of them has 6 kids usual-is that good enough for you?

Ashoething · 12/06/2013 20:10

Feckless mothers, drug addicts and alcoholics-yep you have just described 50% of my family. Honestly do you think I am proud to admit I am related to these people?

I don't think you need any training to be a cleaner Ashoe. It's flexible and you can work your hours to suit. Most areas are crying out for good cleaners.

Unlikely Mumof7 could do it though, judging by those photos! Shock

You can have as many children as you like beer-as long as you can pay for them I couldn't give a shit. Many working people would like to have a larger family but they don't because they simply cant afford it because they are paying for the feckless to breed.

Bonquers · 12/06/2013 20:13

Don;t worry beer, teh Tories are doing something, finally and it seems they have the backing of most decent folk too!

AmberLeaf · 12/06/2013 20:14

Hollyberry, so have you actually read anywhere that she claims DLA and carers?

Bonquers · 12/06/2013 20:14

I'd be throughly ashamed to be related to addicts and alkies and scroungers. Jeez.

ItsallFeegle · 12/06/2013 20:14

Beer - some posters up thread have suggested sterilisation, abortion and forced adoption Grin

Ashoe - I'm sure it kills you to admit your family aren't all perfect

ItsallFeegle · 12/06/2013 20:15

Bonquers - yes, we already know you would Wink
