.. make a fish face when having their photo taken?

Sparklingbrook · 11/06/2013 18:57

What's Instagram? Photos with no waffle?

My hate on FB. Is 'Like for a rate'. Rating each other for looks, personality and closeness. My 15 year old self would be sobbing.

LeGavrOrf · 11/06/2013 19:06

That sounds horrible.

LeGavrOrf · 11/06/2013 19:11

Instagram is this baffling creation where you take modern photos which have been taken with state of the art cameras and look perfect and you filter them so they look like 70s Polaroids which have been in a box in the conservatory for years. I don't get it.

ExitPursuedByABear · 11/06/2013 19:12

So will dd grow out of the lean and pout then? I was idly flicking through her photos on my iPad whilst waiting to have my jaw reset and I was unable to do more than smirk. They can do this double pic thing now which just makes it twice as funny.

CinnamonLatteIsJustForWinter · 11/06/2013 19:20

Exit, How's the jaw? And teeth?

SprinkleLiberally · 11/06/2013 19:25

What is with the scissor fingers? Are they showing a love of crafts?

Lizzylou · 11/06/2013 19:26

I have rather a football face and as a teen used to suck my cheeks in for photos to make me look less pudgy and more like Helena Christiansen. Unfortunately, I couldn't them stop laughing so lokked like I had a beak.
My Mom once refused to buy my school photo on the grounds that I looked like a duck.

I was ahead of my time!

ChasingStaplers · 11/06/2013 19:33

I remember school mates of mine doing a very early duckface.

It was more of a sort of 'tightly pursed lips' look. This was back in the late eighties/early nineties.

desertgirl · 11/06/2013 19:42

they weren't doing duckfaces but ALL of the older girls in current pictures from my old school seem to have identical hair....

ConfusedPixie · 11/06/2013 19:53

I hate it. My sister (22) does it a lot. Along with the 'GR' face and gangsta pose and pretty much you can guarantee that if Haley Williams has been seen doing it, my sister would be too.

Trouble is, my sister is very pretty and somehow pulls these stupid poses off Hmm Though I did once comment on a Fb photo asking her if she'd like me to throw bread at her. Wasn't too amused by that! Wink

Lizzylou · 11/06/2013 19:56

Grin Confusedpixie, that is funny.
I have to agree, I am so glad I grew up before all of these selfie shenanigans.

ExitPursuedByABear · 11/06/2013 20:11

S'ok thanks. Sore and not quite in the right place.

Yes - the scissor fingers Confused

ConfusedPixie · 11/06/2013 20:21

I didn't Blush There are a few of me in similar poses floating around from my teen years! Luckily facebook became popular later on and it's all on a very old and forgotten myspace account!

YouMakeMeWannaLaLa · 11/06/2013 20:37

I do feel really defensive of these girls...they are trying so hard to be what they think they are supposed to be that they go too far and get ridiculed.

But the selfies are reeeeally tiresome. The best/worst ones are where the person has obviously taken the photo themselves but they're looking into the distance as if someone has just snapped a picture 'in the moment'. You know full well there will be about 20 versions of that pic on they're phone and only the best one will be put online.

I saw one of a woman who'd posted a pic of her 'sleeping' (looking perfect: no drool or gob haning wide open!)with a caption about how embarrassing it is when you're man catches you napping. She'd taken it in the mirror and you could see her arm holding the phone Grin

mrsjay · 11/06/2013 20:41

God Bebo. Seems such a long time ago.

That was just awful I hated Bebo and dont get me started on MSN

Lizzylou · 11/06/2013 20:44

Grin at arm in mirror
It seems we have gone so far backwards.
I work/have worked with some beautiful young women who utterly ruin themselves with fake tan/big hair/false eyelashes/awful tarty dresses. Then take selfies.
Towie has a lot to answer for.

LeGavrOrf · 11/06/2013 21:00

That is so funny re arm in mirror.

My dd's photo roll is full of pics of her gurning and pulling the most hideous faces. Apparently she and her mates have competitions to look the worst.

I used to scowl in photos. I have only a Handful of myself as a teen and I look like Mary Tudor in one of them.

Dd isn't girly, doesn't wear make p or do her hair, she is rather more geeky. But bloody hell some of the photos. There are a whole selection of them posing with toys taken in toys r us. God knows what people must have thought.

Nice thing about having teens is seeing how sweet they are. When you have young kids teens seem like great big lummocks hanging around, and then suddenly your child is one and they are just like great big kids really.

ConfusedPixie · 11/06/2013 21:08

Bebo never took off where I was, it was all myspace until facebook came along and slam dunked it.

mrsjay · 11/06/2013 21:12

It is cool to do that much more inventive or so dd2 tells me she went into a shop with her friends and got photies taken with my little ponies I think she said Oh mum its retro , RETRO she is FIFTEEN YEARS OLD WHAT DOES SHE KNOW ABOUT RETRo Grin

Lizzylou · 11/06/2013 21:14

To be fair my teen half brother is just as bad. He is incredibly handsome, has 4 siblings worth of looks, but jeez! So many poseurs.

youmeatsix · 11/06/2013 21:27

does no one sit and wonder when did we turn into our parents? moaning about "the young generation" and "what is snap chat and snap backs?" our parents had conversations like this about us!Grin

Lizzylou · 11/06/2013 21:41

Grin To be fair I can do a slut drop belying my years
It's on film, I really can. After enough wine.

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 11/06/2013 21:45

When I was a young teen/ just before my teen years it was the thumbs up.

So much cooler, no? :)

aftermay · 11/06/2013 21:55
