I've seen someone reply to a duckface with "bang"
followed by "don't have to order duck from the chinese tonight. Bagged me a good duckface there"

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/06/2013 12:23

In all my teen photos, I was glaring at the camera.
I don't think it was a pose though, I was just a moody cow.

Mandy2003 · 11/06/2013 12:24

No-one's mentioned the duckface with the "Adele hair" yet! This pic of Paris Brown the failed junior crime commissioner sums it up I think Grin

At least the teens nowadays know what to do even if they do look a bit ridiculous.

In my old etchings photos I'm either stood face on, round shouldered and gormless OR you mrsjay- I'm LEANING. often with one leg bent up with the flat of my foot against the wall behind me. Which I probably thought looked a bit Madonna-ish.

It didn't.

My two teenage DDs don't do the duck face thing, probably because I've drummed into them how ridiculous the duck-face-orange-spray-tanned girls look.

Funnily enough there don't seem to be many photos of me as a teenager. I'm sure I must have looked amazing with my permed hair, and sweater with zip-off sleeves. Grin

MarmaladeTwatkins · 11/06/2013 12:39

I blame the internet. They all care too much nowadays, because they know 1000 of their closest friends are going to see it on FaceSpace or whatever they're on.

All pictures of me from about 1992-1997 are grainy, capture my gormlessness ever so well and I am wearing nothing more flattering than a Pop Will Eat Itself t-shirt and denim cut-offs. Didn't care though because if I didn't like it, I'd chuck it in the bin outside Max Spielmann whilst rifling through the docket of pictures after I'd picked them up.

Awww the kids don't get that nowadays do they? The excitement of dropping your film off to be processed, paying an extra 49 pee for your mate to have a copy of the set and excitedly ripping them open and flicking through them outside the shop! I used to love doing that!

BabyMakesMyEyesGoSleepy · 11/06/2013 12:51

Duck face, huge hair and scouse brows.Grin

We were much trendier in the 90s with hair mascara, heather shimmer and the waft of Charlie left in our wake.

Ilikethebreeze · 11/06/2013 12:57

Because everyone young person has thousands of pictures taken of them and they are getting bored with ordinary ones.

aliciaflorrick · 11/06/2013 12:58

My ExH and the OW do the duck pose selfie pictures on FB all the time now. At first I thought he was being ironic, but no, that's the new him. So if you think it looks bad on all the pretty young things, now imagine an unshaved, fat, balding 44 year oldShock

specialsubject · 11/06/2013 13:04

ah, the endless pursuit of being different. By looking exactly the same as everyone else. :-)

NeopreneMermaid · 11/06/2013 13:14

Youthecat and Sparechange I am using those the text time one of my DH's annoyingly beautiful twin cousins does it. I'd mind less if they weren't 30 next birthday.

SusanneLinder · 11/06/2013 13:24

Yes we have duck faces here too.Makes me larf :o

Fakebook · 11/06/2013 14:14

Haha, I have an old school friend on fb who is 30 years old and still makes a duck/fish face. It's not just a teenage girl trait.

mrsjay · 11/06/2013 14:16

oh dearie me that is a bit pathetic sad

chocoluvva · 11/06/2013 15:03

I feel sorry for them; there's so much more pressure to have fabulous hair, a tan, to show a lot of skin, the heels are higher.... Definitely more pressure than when I were a lass. Then when/if you overdo it you're called all sorts.

mrsjay · 11/06/2013 15:09

I agree with you choco in all seriousness it is difficult for them I am quite glad my dds are happy in hodies and skinny jeans but I know I wouldnt like a young teen dressing like some do,

raisah · 11/06/2013 18:18

I went to a wedding not long ago and none of the females looked natural apart from me! All wore:
Heavy foundation
heavy eyeliner
hair extensions
false eyelashes
false nails
heavy makeup
and they all looked like identical pantomime drag queens and 15 years older.

TheMagicKeyCanFuckOff · 11/06/2013 18:22

My DD1 does this Blush She's 15, so hasn't got an excuse! She's only done it three times in the last year if it helps, and she says she knows it's stupid but does it anyway. DD2 just laughs....

chocoluvva · 11/06/2013 18:25

I know. DD (16) and her friends put 'selfies' up with comments like, 'Hey, another selfie hahaha'! They can't resist.

Like most of the female contestants on this years Apprentice then! Have been very Shock this year and feel very out of touch.

LeGavrOrf · 11/06/2013 18:50

What the fuck is that snap chat?

Dd taped me on it yesterday. I was being a dickhead, wanted dd to play Mad Men on the telly and she was prattling around with her phone, so I started shouting MAD MEN MAD MEN! In a strange voice like Danny shouts RED RUM in The Shining, she bloody recorded me on snap hat and sent it to her mates saying mad men? mad MUM. I didn't even know this fucking application existed!

Stop it!

LeGavrOrf · 11/06/2013 18:51

Taped!

LeGavrOrf · 11/06/2013 18:52

God Bebo. Seems such a long time ago.

Dd hardly ever goes on Facebook now, she thinks it is a bit lame.

She is on twitter mostly. Oh god EVETYTHING has a hash tag.
