To be annoyed with dd for taking my make up and giving it away as a present

It was only one of the boots sets you get with other purchases, but I would have used the mascara at least. It was while we were on holiday and she needed a birthday present for a girl at school, who hardly has anything to do with her!

  1. She said it was in my present drawer, but I'm fairly sure it was in my makeup drawer. The girl isn't a close friend, and it was no7 makeup! She said sorry, but not convincingly.

Depends how old is she? If she's 5 then its quite sweet, if she's 15 then I'd go spare!

It was while I was away with DH. She was staying with my dm, but had a key to the house.

If you were on holiday why didn't she ask the adult who was in charge for money to buy a present? Are you sure she didn't nick it for herself?

No, I don't think she has it. She could have texted us. I would have said no, I only do presents if she is going to a party. That sounds mean, but they do go to quite a lot!

Well you obviously didn't really need it or you'd have taken it on holiday surely? This wouldn't bother me.

I would be docking her pocket money. At 14 she should know better than to take it without asking. Also in future I would leave the key with your mum, not your DD.

I don't think it was dishonest as such. She just thinks money grows on trees, and can do as she likes. I will see what DH says when he comes in. Not going to bring it up again tonight with her, as she sits her maths gcse tomorrow. I think next time she needs a present, she can pay!

My 14 year old would do this. It's quite normal, they like to give each other gifts.

I'd have a moan at her helping herself and that'd be about it. Save the 'going spare' for the important stuff

If it was free and you'd only have used the mascara it's not much of a loss really.
It would have been better if she'd asked you, but you weren't there.

I would be pissed. But I would be asking why she gave this girl a prezzie when they arent really friends.
Doesnt matter if op didnt take it away on holiday. In that case her dd can help herself to mums jewellry if she goes on holiday again.

I don't think she even received a birthday card from the girl! Hey ho, yeah, I suppose there's worse stuff, but it's really irritated me!

Not "odd" at all. My opinion. Going on what the OP said, it was free, she would only have used one part of it, it was sat in a drawer. Therefore I would not view this as an essential item to be getting pissed off and docking pocket money over.

I wouldn't like it at all. She should certainly be buying you a new mascara next time you need one.

Have you worked out why she had to give this girl a present? I agree that something weird is going on.

I'm pissed off because she didn't ask. For the particular girl in question I would have said no, she's nice enough, but as I said, not one of Dds close friends. I think she's just anxious to be popular. Unfortunately she's made herself unpopular with me! We have not been getting along very well recently. Just this morning she demanded I buy her a maths set for her impending exam. They have a stationary shop at school, but she flounced out the door saying she didn't have time. I think I need to put my foot down with the little madam.

Not hers to take regardless of whether it was free or not. I would not be happy about a child of mine ferreting around in my drawers.
