I've just been into town and in the shopping centre had to use the escalator. In front of me was a woman I would say in her 30s wearing a pair of those stupidly short shorts with her arse cheeks hanging out and they were hairy! I'm talking thick, black pubicky hair.
I nearly brought my breakfast up. AIBU to think if you are going to wear those type of shorts you should at least shave your arse first?

It's interesting. Historically, coarse hair (other than facial for men) has always denoted private regions and people have tended to shave it when the region is displayed in "public" alot. So female nudes by Old Masters have no public hair even though women in Western Europe didn't then shave there. From the twenties, it became more popular to shave armpits because sleeveless tops came into fashion.

So I wonder if the revulsion at a hairy arse is greater than that at a smooth one not is not because someone such as the OP finds the hair itself more disgusting but because it makes it much more obvious that it is a "private area" that shouldn't be on display?

On a personal level, I have found that when my bikini line and underarms have been done to within an inch of their lives, I am a lot happier exposing them, not because they conform to a norm (although I undoubtedly have internalised that norm to some extent) but because they feel blander, less private, a bit less "me" IYSWIM. Humans have mostly only kept coarse hair on the more vulnerable parts of the body, so from an evolutionary/instinctive perspective, revulsion at seeing it in public might relate to a spidey sense that it is dangerous for vulnerable bits to be on display. But once it's removed, the whole area loses that sense of being "secret".

personally I'd rather not see someone's arse cheeks when I am out shopping - the hair is the least of my worries. People need to learn how to dress appropriattely for the occasion and the time of day, and arse cheek shorts are for beach parties and the back garden only, imho.

I find the lower peachy buttocks look cute, not keen on sagging,wobbly,dimpled ones and dislike the look of the bumcleavage .

But it is inappropriate for bottocks to be on show on an esculator in consideration of the people below. Unless the shorts are tight lycra, the person/people below can see up the short legs to the crotch area.

I was mortified to discover this at the ripe old age of 34, and can only apologise to the legions of people I must have made pre discovery, whilst brazenly wearing arse hair highlighting swimwear on holiday and mooning out of the back window of the ladies rugby coach in my twenties

During the winter my pubes closely resemble mohair cycling shorts in terms of coverage and density, however just last week I decided to take a gamble on there actually being a summer this year and went for my annual wax. Full leg and bikini took over an hour and a half!

My money is on her being totally unaware of her hairy arse, and if I'm honest, I am a bit envious of her blissful ignorance!

Her arse, her hair therefore her decision. Personally, i remove all of my body hair. But if another woman wants to remain completely natural then that's up to her and not for me to pass judgement on. But she should have worn larger shorts for the sake of decency.

I have a naturally hairy arse too, but my waxer if fabulous and waxes it as part of my hollywood wax without ever asking me the question of 'Mango, would you like your arse waxed too?!'. I love shorts, but wearing them so small that bodily areas such as this are clearly visible is just unnecessary.
