To think 'sexy' is not an appropriate adjective to describe a baby/toddler?

By coincidence two (female) members of my family have said this within a week of each other.
One about a photo I sent of my 2.4 DS in some sunglasses - she replied with a text saying "looking sexy!" and then I sent a photo of my 4mo old DD in an outfit that an Aunt had bought her, saying thank you for the outfit and the Auntie in question replied "wow, sexy even at 4 months"
It makes me uncomfortable...

StuntGirl · 02/06/2013 18:43

Your friends are weird.

EarlyInTheMorning · 02/06/2013 18:43

YANBU
Yuk

squoosh · 02/06/2013 18:45

So, so wrong.

Although the word 'sexy' seems to be used to describe all sorts of things these days. A guy in work always says 'here comes the sexy part', and he'll produce a flippin' pie chart or something.

5madthings · 02/06/2013 18:46

Yuk yuk yuk yanbu

BitBewildered · 02/06/2013 18:47

YANBU. A waitress described my DS as sexy, despite him not yet being two. Fucksake.

QueenofLouisiana · 02/06/2013 18:47

Wrong, in so many ways! But sexy seems to be used as a general compliment now...I feel uncomfortable about it.

YANBU.

pigletmania · 02/06/2013 18:47

Omg how can a baby/child look sexy. Yuck yuck yuck. I have only heard this on Mumsnet nowhere else

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 02/06/2013 18:48

Stuntgirl - if they were friends I could distance myself - these are my husband's family

FFS - Lighten up!!

YABU - and I thought I was middle-aged.....

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 02/06/2013 18:49

Ugh, awful. So inappropriate.

MasterSplinter · 02/06/2013 18:50

I've met two people who do this and they were both from Brum oddly. They clearly didn't mean sexy in the way I do so it's not a loaded term for them but really, yes with most of us using a certain way, it's shocking to hear it used to describe the young.

cupcake78 · 02/06/2013 18:50

Yanbu! I hate it when sexy is used in anything associated with children. It's just wrong, extremely wrong!

snooter · 02/06/2013 18:50

Totally unacceptable IMO. The ought to have said "gorgeous" or "cool" or anything else at all really.

Midlifecrisisarefun · 02/06/2013 18:51

I was thinking this about an hour ago, the DD of friends posted a pic on FB of her own DD aged 3 and put 'sexy'. Her sister posted a pic of her 15 month old with the same title ...pretty or cute, maybe, but sexy YUK!!

Bowlersarm · 02/06/2013 18:51

Don't read so much into it. It's a throw away comment.

AndHarry · 02/06/2013 18:52

YANBU. Children are not sexy. I hate how describing children using sexual language has become acceptable.

I'm 25 BTW as age seems to be relevant Hmm

MrsMagpieCovetsShinyThings · 02/06/2013 18:54

I hate it being used to describe children, and I hate little children using it. Our friends 4 year old loved the song 'Gangnam Style' and ran around for months singing 'hey sexy lady'. It just sounds so wrong coming from little mouths!

YourHandInMyHand · 02/06/2013 18:54

Oh I think this is horrid. Loads of people round here use it regarding kids. Mind you if they aren't calling them sexy they are teasing them that they are geeks. Hmm I despair!

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/06/2013 18:55

YANBU!

It makes me twitch. It's always mums referring to their sons. "My sexy little man". NO he is your fucking BABY! Cute, adorable, handsome, gorgeous are significantly more appropriate adjectives.

I hate stunning being used in reference to children too.

Never hear a dad referring to his "sexy little woman" - because it's wrong! As is sexy little man. Angry

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/06/2013 18:57

I'm 24 and hate it so it's clearly not just a "middle aged" thing Hmm

toffeelolly · 02/06/2013 18:59

YANBU . It is just not right. Some parent's hey.

Bigbadticklemonster · 02/06/2013 19:03

Yanbu My dds Belfast family all called her sexy its disgusting I don't know if its a regional thing or what ? It makes my skin crawl

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 02/06/2013 19:06

Well I'm in Hampshire so not in any of the areas already mentioned....
