To think 'sexy' is not an appropriate adjective to describe a baby/toddler?

By coincidence two (female) members of my family have said this within a week of each other.
One about a photo I sent of my 2.4 DS in some sunglasses - she replied with a text saying "looking sexy!" and then I sent a photo of my 4mo old DD in an outfit that an Aunt had bought her, saying thank you for the outfit and the Auntie in question replied "wow, sexy even at 4 months"
It makes me uncomfortable...

DS keeps asking me if he's sexy, or telling me that I'm sexy. Really makes me cringe, he's only 3! No idea where he's got it from, think he must have heard me and DP talking!

YADNBU. It seems language has evolved and sexy doesn't mean what it used to for some people. BUT I really hate young children and babies being described as sexy. There are just so many other ways of describing children. I just find it weird and I'm 25, so not middle aged. Hmm

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 02/06/2013 19:11

YANBU, I bloody hate that!

A friend of a friend put up a photo of her new born granddaughter on FB and wrote "my sexy granddaughter"

WTF?!

Dannilion · 02/06/2013 19:11

Yuk.

Although, I'm 23 and a girl I went to school with tags photos of her dog as sexy on Facebook. Hmm

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/06/2013 19:14

It seems we are all in some way in contact with people who aren't inclined towards actually about what the words they use mean. And so they use them inappropriately.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/06/2013 19:16

Actually thinking even Blush

miffybun73 · 02/06/2013 19:18

YANBU, makes me feel queasy - what weird friends.

ShadowStorm · 02/06/2013 19:18

YANBU.

Seems so so wrong to describe a baby or toddler as sexy.

I've never heard anybody use the word sexy to describe a child, but if I did I would have to correct time. It sounds so wrong!

I do agree with what others have said about 'sexy' being an adjective that's just thrown about these days though.

In the window of the Marriot hotel near me it has a sign for it's restaurant that reads 'Great cocktails, sexy food.' Confused

Letticetheslug · 02/06/2013 19:21

yanbu, it's awful ...

cupcake78 · 02/06/2013 19:34

Yanbu! I hate it when sexy is used in anything associated with children. It's just wrong, extremely wrong!

AndHarry · 02/06/2013 19:48

I just snorted at the sexy dog. Now that is just wrong.

digerd · 02/06/2013 19:53

The word "sexy" is used instead of 'gorgeous, 'beautiful', 'charming', 'pretty', handsome' etc.

It appears that everyone has gone sex madHmm and being very frugal with the english language's rich vocabulary - shame Sad

ArtemisiaofCaria · 02/06/2013 19:55

Surely sexy means- "it looks so good I want to have sex with it"...

thebody · 02/06/2013 19:57

Well I am 'from Brum' and don't find children remotely sexy thanks.

Horrible.

Sparrowlegs248 · 02/06/2013 19:58

YANBU!! Sooooo wrong. I used to know someone who referred to their horse as their 'sexy boy'! Wtf?!?!?

hermioneweasley · 02/06/2013 20:00

Ewwwwww. Tell them it's wildly inappropriate

thebody · 02/06/2013 20:01

I would assume then that that person was having sex with the horse!!

EarlGreyTeabag · 02/06/2013 20:02

YANBU

Sparrowlegs248 · 02/06/2013 20:04

Of course they don't actually mean 'sexy' but then why say it?

EleanorFarjeon · 02/06/2013 20:09

It's SO inappropriate and

EleanorFarjeon · 02/06/2013 20:09

Aaargh

... Only an ignoramus would use this word of of context.

beeroclock · 02/06/2013 20:15

my boys sing gangnam style 'heeyy sexist ladyee'...ha, feminists at four

WillYouDoTheFandango · 02/06/2013 20:32

I was thinking about this yesterday when a dad pointed to his little (~3 & 5) girls in a mirrored building and said don't you look sexy. Confused I really don't like it.

The worst one for me was when a woman came over to my tiny, froggy-legged 6 wo DS and said hello you sexy beast. i'd have been fine with beautiful, cute, lovely but not sexy.
