:)

minouminou · 02/06/2013 12:27

That's no surprise. Glad you got some prompt help. I've had a few near misses with mastitis and it's not nice.
Don't let it put you off bf-ing, though. Just make sure all the ducts are emptied after each feed.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 02/06/2013 12:33

Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery Smile

weblette · 02/06/2013 12:40

Oh that's good to hear - as was mentioned further upthread, if it doesn't clear completely make sure you get straight back to your GP.

flanbase · 02/06/2013 14:17

Good you got the treatment you need. Take it easy and rest & bf as much as possible

Pigsmummy · 02/06/2013 14:19

Put cabbage in bra and take paracetemol. The best cabbage I found was savoy.

thefuturesnotourstosee · 02/06/2013 20:37

Thank you again all of you.

I've spent a good chunk of today either feeding DS or asleep. I've also just managed to eat 2 slices of toast with butter and cup of tea which is the first thing I've had since yesterday lunch time other than water and medication. Just hoping I'm not about to be sick again now.

Still in a lot of pain :(

OHforDUCKScake · 02/06/2013 20:43

You poor bugger OP.

I had this with both my babies. And it always came on very suddenly and Id get ill very quickly.

The last time it happened when I was getting ready for bed I noticed a slight hot spot on my breast. At 3am I woke up and I was shivering so badly my whole body was shaking to almost the point of convulsing. My lips and area around my lips was totally blue, I felt like I was in the Antarctic and could not get warm.

Id just had my first period and wondered if Id had TSS!

Realised it was mastitis, the antibiotics kicked in well but it was the neurofen which bought my fever down. I was passing out at one point.

Its very scary how quickly it escalates, so Im glad you get to see someone tonight.

OHforDUCKScake · 02/06/2013 20:44

Sorry just noticed this happened last night. Glad you have the meds.

Apparently dangle feeding helps, although it never helped me. But you lay the baby on the bed and you go on all fours and dangle your boob. Its supposed to clear it quite well.

mummydarkling · 02/06/2013 20:51

Hope the pain is easing by now Thanks

thefuturesnotourstosee · 04/06/2013 23:08

Just wanted to thank you all. The anti-biotics are really kicking in now and I'm feeling almost completely fine though still getting the odd stabbing pain. I really appreciated all your kind advise and sympathy. Without you lot I'd probably have just tried to wait until Monday morning and really regretted it.

Thanks again Thanks

Mastitis. You need ABs! Can you get to an out of hours doctors?

pictish · 04/06/2013 23:13

Oh glad you're feeling better OP. Poor you.

SirBoobAlot · 04/06/2013 23:14

Glad you're on the mend, OP. As well as finishing the full course of ABs, if you can feel any lumps / swellings / the pain is in a certain area (towards the armpit is the most common area), try to feeding with your LO's lower jaw pointing towards it, as this will help loosen any blockage that may have occurred.

Hope you're back on form asap.

SirBoobAlot · 04/06/2013 23:15

And if your DS is being treated for oral thrush, make sure you get treated as well - and not with canestan, there are specific medications you can be prescribed. Otherwise you will keep passing it back to one another.

pictish · 04/06/2013 23:20

Ds2 and I had thrush when I was bf him. It was so so painful, but not as bad as mastitis. I would bite down on the handle of a wooden spoon when he was latching on.
The things you do for love eh?
