To think it's highly unlikely foriners were trying to steal her baby

A "friend" just sent me a warning from someone in our town that 2 "asian or Turkish" men were eyeing her baby in the street before they told them to f off where they came from and they left. They were "foriners" (I know but that's how she spelt it) and clearly looking to steal her baby.

IABU to think this is bollocks? Its the new "gypsys steal babies" isn't it? Hmm.

I'm so ridiculously sick of people accepting casual racism starting to feel so worn down by it.

So 2 men looked at her baby and that means they wanted to steal her?

I have an inability to resist a peek into prams and a smile at baby and mum. I guess I better stop incase I am accused of plotting an abduction!

Oh no. Someone looked at her baby. How terrible.

HollyBerryBush · 29/05/2013 07:56

But we do live in a culture of hysteria!

God forbid anyone should sideways glance at your child, or talk to them, or offer them a sweet, silver coins, tickle them under the chin - enough threads on here with hysterical mothers in a complete melt down with all of the above.

Must be true if they were Turkish. When we were in turkey ds was often taken off for tours of the restaurant, shop, boat similar happened in Italy obvioulsy a conspiracy between them all to pretend to love children when all they want to do is take British children and now they are over here trying it Angry

jojane · 29/05/2013 08:39

Which town? As I just got a similar message although it was a little girl not a baby.

namechangeofshame · 29/05/2013 08:42

Newport, where are you?

youarewinning · 29/05/2013 08:45

DS was born in a forin! country - pale, strawberry blonde - very different to the darker skined, dark haired babies they were use to - I have had a nervous breakdown if I had had a panic attack everytime someone stared at him. Grin

This was a country where the village really did raise the child so eating in retaurants usually meant he was elsewhere - being held, shown around, pushed up and down in pram.

I cannot get hysterical about cultural differences.

this, and of course these men were not looking at her baby they were probably not even near her, Hysteria is a dangerous thing imo it really is I had a 2 brown men in a Silver car hanging about on my facebook recently

Buzzardbird · 29/05/2013 08:53

So, have you challenged her?

AmandaPayneNeedsANap · 29/05/2013 08:58

So what did you say to her?

honeytea · 29/05/2013 08:59

It is so sad that looking at a baby has come to be seen as an indication that they want to steal the baby :(

I live in a very mixed area (I am an immigrant in the country we live in myself) My turkish and iranian neighbours are so lovely with my 5 month old ds. Every time we meet one of the iranian neighbours they make a huge fuss of ds, pinching his cheeks and making him giggle and asking me where his coat is even though it is 25 degrees The first time I met my Turkish neighbour after ds was born he just took him off me, just picked him up out of my arms, it was lovely to feel like ds was welcomed to the community (the uptight natives Swedes do a pretty good job at ignoring babies :( )

Shared status so unable to post on the girls status but yes I have challenged my friend who shared. Probably burned my bridges but having an evil baby stealing brown man for a dh who she is good friends with I am too weary to keep my temper to myself anymore.

I think that's my main issue with it, I knew thick cunts like the original poster exist but friends who like my dh and dds not seeing the racism in it show me just how insidious these beliefs are.

You could report the post too but IME fb doesn't seem to have a problem with racism.

Buzzardbird · 29/05/2013 09:09

I would put a link to hoax-slayer or snopes though as this story is listed on there and makes the poster look an arse hole.

namechangeofshame · 29/05/2013 09:11

Thanks buzzard I will. It will add weight to my "if they were white, how do you know they were foreign, did you mean to sound so racist" rant.

There was either a lot of child snatchers around yesterday, or the same ones are getting round the country very quickly. I'm in Central Scotland and had the same message appear on my FB... repellant.

HollyBerryBush · 29/05/2013 09:44

Must have been the sunshine bringing them out!

mrsjay · 29/05/2013 09:46

maybe get a clear run on the motorway MrsR Wink

suburbophobe · 29/05/2013 09:47

2 "asian or Turkish" men

Oh dear, she can't even tell the difference between Asian and non-Asian....Hmm

mrsjay · 29/05/2013 09:50

h dear, she can't even tell the difference between Asian and non-Asian.

these status would be as well saying a Brown faced person is breathing near me i feel violated that is basically what they mean , it is hysterical but people believe it ,

waterlego6064 · 29/05/2013 10:10

Yes, lol @ 'Asian or Turkish'. Asian is very non-specific, Turkish is very specific. How does she know they weren't Egyptian? Or Iranian? Or Kazakh? Or Yemeni? Or....

Clearly what she means is 'brown, and possibly Muslim'.

Pigsmummy · 29/05/2013 10:13

I shall keep a close eye on baby and look out for these rougues.
