I'm sure this has been done to death but I have to get it off my chest, its really very trivial, but I have to vent.
Why do people insist on putting photos on FB when they are off havign such an amazing time on their hols?
Is it because they want the world to know how fab it is where they are?
Is it to show off ?
Is it because they are more interested in trying to demonstrate to everyone else how fab things are than actually enjoying how fab everythign is
Is it just that I'm not really as into FB as they are therefore its lost on me ?

I love seeing my friends and families holiday photos on FB.

I shall be posting my week in a tent in Suffolk exotic holiday photos on FB

Nagoo · 28/05/2013 18:46

What about those show off bastards that spend money on buying a photo card of their holiday destination, and spend their precious holiday time writing it out, and trooping round for a stamp, in a foreign country, and then post a message to you about what a lovely time they are having?

HAVE THEY NOTHING BETTER TO DO ??? Angry Angry Angry Angry

Wink Wink

Yabu - love seeing holiday snaps of friends

catgirl1976 · 28/05/2013 19:02

It. takes. no. more. time. than. taking. the. photo.

exoticfruits · 28/05/2013 19:34

DP won't let me (and before anyone says he is controlling, it is the only thing I'm not allowed to do) post photos while we are away. He has been burgled in the past and doesn't want it advertising that we are away.

Firstly any burglar who assumes that because we are away the house is empty is going to be in for a nasty shock! Secondly my security settings are high and I don't have the sorts of friends who are going to be a problem!

I don't understand FB at all. Other people's holiday photos whether in an album, on a screen or whatever are not that interesting.

I find them very interesting.

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2013 19:38

Maybe one or two exotic I don't want to see many more. Reminds me of the yawnsome projector slide shows we had to endure in the 70s.

I think people flatter themselves if they think anyone is particularly interested. They are probably being polite in most cases.

TolliverGroat · 28/05/2013 19:43

But if they add more than a couple of photos all you get on your newsfeed is "Felicity Buffington-Smythe added fifty photographs to the album My Swanky Holiday 2013" with a couple of thumbnails. So you actively have to click through to see more.

I have my DD on FB , I love seeing photos of her and my grandchildren on holiday.

If I didnt want to look at someones photos I wouldn't have them on my FB in the first place.

MrsMelons · 28/05/2013 19:59

I like seeing other people's photos, I think how lovely and what a nice place etc etc - most of them are actually my friends so why would I think anything else (other than a bit Envy when it is ages till my holiday).

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2013 20:00

I don't have FB. Grin

BrawToken · 28/05/2013 20:03

I have just left FB forever. Yippeeee!

Hassled · 28/05/2013 20:04

I only ever really put photos on FB if I'm on holiday or having a nice birthday meal or something generally good is happening.

Because what's your alternative - here's a photo of me in my slippers loading the washing machine before getting ready for work? I don't want to see photos of my friends having a bog-standard day, I want to see photos of them on an amazing beach having a great time. That's the point of FB.

I put photos on as my family dont live locally, I will never get round to printing or putting them on a disk so its the only way they will ever see them.

I dont think of it as public as I have a limited number of friends but some of them are via Mumsnet or other parents so I can imagine they wouldn't want to look at them.....so dont, its not rocket science is it?

If you are one of my Mumsnet friends and it annoys you, please feel free to defriend me as I would hate to think anyone I thought of as a friend was so mean spirited, you'd be doing me a favour Grin

BlueSkySunnyDay · 28/05/2013 20:08

I dont do it while I am away though (unless drunk) as i'm security obsessed Wink

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2013 20:09

DS1 has FB and is 13. I have never seen a holiday picture on there of some dire accommodation or a litter strewn beach and certainly no pictures of bad weather. Grin

13 year olds just put a photo up with no caption. Then their friends have to say 'Are you on holiday?' and 'where?'. etc.

I only ever post holiday pictures on FB if the sun is shining. But that doesn't happen very often in England tbh Grin

usualsuspect · 28/05/2013 20:18

In fact it's a standing joke, 'quick the suns out, photo'

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2013 20:18

Grin usual. DS1 gets a lot of pictures of dinners from his mate's holidays. Hmm

Hassled · 28/05/2013 20:19

God I'd forgotten all about those postcard-writing bastards Angry. Those were dark days.

The postcard usually arrived after you got back anyway.
