I'm sure this has been done to death but I have to get it off my chest, its really very trivial, but I have to vent.
Why do people insist on putting photos on FB when they are off havign such an amazing time on their hols?
Is it because they want the world to know how fab it is where they are?
Is it to show off ?
Is it because they are more interested in trying to demonstrate to everyone else how fab things are than actually enjoying how fab everythign is
Is it just that I'm not really as into FB as they are therefore its lost on me ?

OP posts:

OP - is your life that sad and miserable that pictures of someone who is supposed to be your friend having fun in a sunny place makes you want to vent?

HabbaDabba · 28/05/2013 17:29

So people are sooooo strange. People who posts lots of pictures of themselves having fun are trying to convince themselves more than anyone else. Hmm

My friends are in Macau at the moment. They definitely look like they are really having fun but it might be a front. In the time before fb people would return from holiday with several photo books of 6x4. I'm now seeing them in a different light. Then those are those bastards then would sent postcards. They were just twats rubbing it in weren't they?

Cosmosim · 28/05/2013 17:36

It takes a CPU

Cosmosim · 28/05/2013 17:36

No

Cosmosim · 28/05/2013 17:36

Bloody iPhone. I give up, it wins lol

Littleolivetree · 28/05/2013 17:38

Someone sounds a bit jealous

badguider · 28/05/2013 17:43

In the olden days Grin I couldn't bear to sit through a packet of 'holiday snaps' when somebody gets home from a holiday, but I'm more than happy to have a few pop up on facebook while they're there.

I also hate sending postcards, finding an image that actually represents what you are seeing where you are, then finding out what type of shop sells stamps in the country you're in, and what a post box looks like and where it's likely to be.... give me fb any day :)

HollyBerryBush · 28/05/2013 17:48

There is the school of thought that as most phones are cameras, if upload as you go, then loses your phone you havent lost your memories.

Holidays-as-you-go are a bit 'meh' unless its a picture of a stunning view, however I do find the Im-pissed-in-the-pub-let-me-upload-the-entire-contents-of-my-phone albums, complete with panda eyes, and tongues considerably more irritating.

AWimbaWay · 28/05/2013 17:49

I like seeing people's holiday photos whilst they're still away, especially of family, it's nice to know what they're up to and that they're enjoying themselves, really can't see what the problem is, nobody's forcing anyone to look through them if they don't want to.

DowntonTrout · 28/05/2013 17:54

Surely the whole point of FB is that you can pick and choose what you post, who you allow access to your timeline and can opt to carry on scrolling down your page if some of the posts are not interesting to you?

I post quite a few photos because I live away from my friends and family at the moment. They can keep up with what we are doing and by liking or commenting it helps us stay connected. I'm sure some of my FB "friends" are not particularly interested but they don't have to look or comment do they? Just keep scrolling.

Claudiecat · 28/05/2013 18:01

Meddie back in the 70s and 80s we always used to take photos of a 'spread' at any do we went to. We can now look back and see what constituted a good buffet!! Grin

caseycartwright · 28/05/2013 18:05

I just do it because I like bragging. And I really like annoying all 472 of my best friends.

Oblomov · 28/05/2013 18:06

Yes, to all of OP's questions. I thought the whole point of FB WAS to show off, photo of you in Santa xxx, sun and cocktail. If not, what's the point of FB?

Beaverfeaver · 28/05/2013 18:08

My family live all over the place and are in different countries. The easiest and quickest way for us to share things is via Facebook.
When me and DH go on holiday it's a must to upload 3 or 4 pics.
They always ask to see them as some people who live far far away might not find it easy travelling to the places we find are relatively local to us.

HollyBerryBush · 28/05/2013 18:09

Claudiecat arrrgh! my dear old mum used to take pictures of hotel furniture! just why?

Beaverfeaver · 28/05/2013 18:12

I find it ever so strange that people think they people post up pics of them having a good time as a front and that they aren't actually having a good time.
What a waste.
If be quite upset if I was looking forward to a long saved for holiday for it not to be good.

I am sure there might be the odd occaision this happens, but surly its the minority and shouldn't be assumed as the first thought when someone posts something positive.

I think it's great to know friends and family are happy.
It's all if ever want for them and wouldn't wish misery or a bad holiday on anyone.

Beaverfeaver · 28/05/2013 18:14

Teacherandguideleader: your DH is very wise man! There are lots of instances of that happening when people post 'on way to airport for 2 week hols' or similar and don't realise who actually might see that information.

Much better to wait until you are home.

bailo · 28/05/2013 18:24

Surely the point of spending thousands on a holiday is so you can enjoy it through a 4 inch LCD screen rather than putting the gadgets away and enjoying the moment like a nerd.

Lizzylou · 28/05/2013 18:34

I post pics on fb if in Uk, abroad I wait until home.
I bloody love seeing where people are though, am nosy and don't get Envy , well maybe a bit when I have just got caught in pissing down rain.

Takes seconds to upload pics.

gordyslovesheep · 28/05/2013 18:36

is't that what FB is for?

I'll be posting photo's for my mum to see over the next 11 days (of all inclusive sun and fun) - bite me Grin

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2013 18:37

I don't understand FB at all. Other people's holiday photos whether in an album, on a screen or whatever are not that interesting.

wigglesrock · 28/05/2013 18:39

I do it to show off - I have no qualms about admitting it. But I only have people on FB who are friends - ones I see quite a lot and my family who live a long way away and who miss the kids. But mostly to show off Smile

QuintessentialOldDear · 28/05/2013 18:41

I take pictures when on holiday, and when we do fun stuff. I normally use my phone for taking the pictures. I then upload to facebook my favourite ones. This way I have a permanent record, and I can easily save the pics to my computer. Saves me transferring all in one go.

I like seeing my friends photos. I have very few, RL friends on my FB.

loofet · 28/05/2013 18:41

I don't have FB but I do have instagram and Twitter.

If I was on holiday I would post when I got home. I have a rule when on holiday- no internet. I think holidays are supposed to be time away from the usual day to day crap and that includes meaningless time online.

caseycartwright · 28/05/2013 18:41

I am 100% confident that none of my friends would burgle my home when I'm on holiday. And the chances of one of their friends seeing it AND knowing where I live AND happening to be a professional burglar are pretty small, I would have thought.
