To think that Tesco don't give a monkeys - twin trolley issues

I have been having an on and off battle with my local Tesco (the only supermarket without driving 13 miles or so) for a while.

Ever since my twins were born I have struggled with trolleys.

When they needed the reclining seat trolleys, they were always tucked away at the back so I had to pull out 10 or 20 trolleys to get them out. I would the have to clean them as they were always filthy (I did find a manager once and gave him a handful of really manky baby wipes from where I had cleaned one)

Now they are in the normal trolleys, I always struggle to find a twin one. They are normally half way down a row of trolleys because the trolley boys don't seem to have a brain cell and put them there.

I have complained to the store manager and have even been on a customer focus group where I made my feelings known about the trolleys. I was told then ( over a month ago) that trolleys were on order.

Today, after searching the lines of trolleys in the dry storage area, I had to check all of the trolley bays in the car park, in torrential rain. There were none, so I had to put one twin in the seat and the other in the trolley (which I detest as it isn't fair on the next user to have dirty shoes in the bottom of a trolley)

Should I really kick off about this now?

Have you asked when the trolleys are due to arrive?

ReluctantBeing · 28/05/2013 14:45

The staff love to see the twins? Are you a local celebrity?

vinhotinto · 28/05/2013 14:46

Have to agree my twins love shopping too but I have an older DD and she only likes short trips Smile so online for all the big stuff and Morrisons for top ups.

I agree that it is poor service to alienate your customers, Morrisons and Tescos are the same distance from me but Morrisons gets my custom for the twin trolley availability.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/05/2013 14:47

Trapper - a parent who has the right trolley for their needs will be able to spend more time, and therefore probably more money, shopping, so it is in Tesco's best interests to make sure all the right trolleys are available. Conversely if someone has to put one of their children into the main part of a trolley, there won't be as much space for shopping, and they will want to get done with their shopping and out of the store as fast as possible, so they will spend less.

southbank · 28/05/2013 14:52

I have the same issue, and sometimes online shopping isn't an option.
I emailed my local sainsburys who informed me they keep 1 twin trolley in store so if I ever need it I ask at customer services. However surely the answer is have more than 1 twin trolley.
My own particular answer is Asda, rows and rows of twin trolleys, and I have even called them in tears after driving to tesco, sainsburys and Lidl and not being able to get a trolley. They brought a trolley to my car!!!I must add twins were about 5 months old so I was still a hormonal wreck,I wouldn't normally call asda crying.
For those of you that don't think about it please please please look at the trolley seats and take a single if you don't need a double,I can't tell you how little things like that really can make a difference!

caseycartwright · 28/05/2013 14:53

I used to keep a blanket in my car to put in the trolley for dc4 or 3 to sit on if I couldn't find a double trolley. But then I may be a bit of a freak of nature as I have never minded taking my kids to the supermarket. It was something else that got us out of the house and out and about!

theodorakisses · 28/05/2013 14:55

Can't say it is really worth more than half of one monkey frankly. It does sound a tad self aborbed

Viviennemary · 28/05/2013 14:57

I think you should find an easier way to shop. What is the point of struggling to make a point. What about people with triplets or quads. Would they get special trolleys. Supermarkets cater for the majority.

southbank · 28/05/2013 15:01

Op isn't struggling to make a point, she has got twins, they aren't exactly rare, and families with two children with small age gaps will also face this.
It's an inconvenience, but a very easily solved one.
Just because the majority is catered for should that mean the minority should be left to struggle or not be assisted.
What a horrible attitude to have.

Viviennemary · 28/05/2013 15:07

In tears over a supermarket trolley. Good grief!

Ilovemyself · 28/05/2013 15:11

Local celebs lol. We have just got to know some of them over the years and they always ask about them or stop us to chat when they are with us.

And self absorbed - what a stupid comment. All I want is the supermarket listen to a valid customer point. It's not just parents of twins. It could be anyone with 2 small children.

And viviennmary. Why should I not take my children shopping when they enjoy it. A twin trolley is not exactly high tech. If other supermarkets manage it so should our local Tesco. And we also have a 3 month old as will as our twins so we know what it is like for those with triplets. You can only really fit 2 seats in a trolley without it becoming unusable. We have a sling for no 3. But I guess you are just trying to flame

Viviennmary. Hardly in tears. Just annoyed at the lack of customer service offered. Get your facts straigh

Ilovemyself · 28/05/2013 15:12

Straight even

OP posts:
Ilovemyself · 28/05/2013 15:13

Ok. Just seen the tears post. I can understand though.

OP posts:
Ilovemyself · 28/05/2013 15:17

If the day is going bad, and you have had to go sing and you can't even do a simple task like that because of simple customer service or people not thinking I can understand people being in tears.

Viviennmary - you obviously have no compassion to others and cannot see how simple things are made difficult because of ineptitude and poor customer service. You obviously read the poor persons post and twisted it in your mind to suit your need to be quite awful

OwlinaTree · 28/05/2013 15:17

I think the suggestion that they find you a trolley is good. It sounds like they know you quite well now as you shop there regularly. Could you ring in advance and say 'I'm on my way, can you hunt down a twin trolley for me?' If you are a regular they might just do it!

This is yet another reason why i can justify avoiding shopping in tesco!

Ilovemyself · 28/05/2013 15:19

We have Asda and Sainsbury looking at coming into the town so lets hope it gives Tesco the kick they deserve

Are perfect trolleys a god given right, what do mothers of triplets do?

mumofweeboys · 28/05/2013 15:20

I click and collect everytime. Your lucky your dc are so well behaved, mine just cause chaos and can never get a double seat trolley.

Ilovemyself · 28/05/2013 15:23

Perfect trolleys no, but ones that are usable should be available. You may as well just say don't provide trolleys. If they supplied just doubles it would help any parent of 2 children.

OP posts:
DiscoDonkey · 28/05/2013 15:23

Seems odd they have so few double trolley's I'm sure all our tesco ones are double's?

TheBigJessie · 28/05/2013 15:26

I don't think people putting trolleys back randomly are selfish or bastards - to be honest it's never occurred to me in most places that there are certain areas for certain trolleys.
If your local supermarket is in anyway as clearly labelled as the one I'm thinking of:

Maybe you should visit Specsavers. They are FUCKING SELFISH BASTARDS. I stand by this. www.shopequip.co.uk/admin/uploads/dis62l_300.jpg

See this image? It is a trolley for the use of shoppers with particular disabilities. The twin trolleys (toddler or infant) and the disabled trolleys are in the same section to keep them separate from the standard ones. They all get blocked off. The twin toddler trolleys might be difficult to distinguish from standard. The twin infant trolleys and trolleys for disabled trolleys are not.

It is selfishness. People of the World: use your eyes at look at things.

Of course different types of trolleys can be separated outside the store, just like kidney beans and baked beans are separated inside the store.

ExcuseTypos · 28/05/2013 15:26

Tescos are shit. I haven't shopped their for 15 years, I hate them.

Online shopping is great, but if you do want to go and do it yourself, if you can't find the proper trolley then go to customer services and ask someone to fine you one.

ExcuseTypos · 28/05/2013 15:27

There

GladbagsGold · 28/05/2013 15:27

Get two trolleys and lash them together with bungee cords. You will probably knock a few things off shelves as you do round. This may give them an incentive to get their act together :)
