I was just browsing on a job site and this advert came to my attention, AIBU to think that this is asking an awful lot of a potential au pair for £80 a week? Shock and I thought carers were underpaid!.

fuckthis, I thought 'fuck this' and left Fulham and my boyfriend at the time (15 years ago) I am secretly hoping he is about to pop up, traced down by nightingale, I know he has moved to Clapham (of course) he is a prime candidate for this sort of exploitative behaviour. I have insider knowledge of these types. It's not hard, they are all the same.

Surely, surely, friends or friends of friends of James and Alexandra have spotted this thread and they know they are now the subject of ridicule. Not to mention the woman who didn't work but wanted someone to do everything for her while she was 'primary mother'.

It will get out - they will be exposed Shock

ShadeofViolet · 28/05/2013 19:03

Why would someone not respect their own privacy as implied in advert 1.

Also, if you want privacy for your family, why post pictures of yourself with the ad?

QuintessentialOldDear · 28/05/2013 19:04

They are royally taking the pizz to get cheap childcare, and DOG CARE!

6 hours per day 5 days per week sole care of one-two kids and a dog plus two evenings babysitting, and light cleaning. Wow. Cheeky.

And pizz off to give the family space when you are not working. Hmm

I hope nobody is silly enough to apply!

FuckThisShit · 28/05/2013 19:06

It wouldn't take me five minutes to find out who they are - you know exactly what I mean, I am sure!

It's a damn shame it's half term week as waiting at the nursery school gates would have been awesome. I actually know 4 kids at the nursery (class) of the school, so it is highly likely that I'll know friends of these people. In fact there's no highly likely about it - I will know them.

FuckThisShit · 28/05/2013 19:07

Oooh and Calypso, I'd love to find out where is now and report back to you...!

nightingalefloor · 28/05/2013 19:11

Just let me put DD to bed and I'll track him down if he's on there calypso Grin

Oh can you imagine?!! I can just see it at one of their fork suppers, "So how's the new nanny adapting? Has she mastered mucking out the pigs at your farmhouse while simultaneously organising playdates and ensuring DD doesn't pull at her pony?" Grin

ChimeForChange · 28/05/2013 19:11

How acceptable is it to place mark until the advertisers find this thread?

calypso2008 · 28/05/2013 19:12
Grin

Do you think any of the gumtree folk have been alerted yet? Do you think this thread willbed deleted?

Such fun (SO important to 'have fun' when in SW3)

"We often spend weekends and holidays at a farmhouse in Herefordshire where you will be locked in the barn in the dark with some gruel and a small pitcher of mineral water and you're bed for the night will be the straw bales which you will be expected to share with Arabella, our thoroughbred horse"

FuckThisShit · 28/05/2013 19:18

Excellent work Gobbolino!

FuckThisShit · 28/05/2013 19:19

I'd start a thread on NVN but really don't want to be outed. That would draw attention fo sho.

JulieMumsnet · 28/05/2013 19:20

Evening,

We're not wanting to stem the flow of an interesting debate, but we're asking you to remember our wonderful netiquette.

It's a tad too much to post links to families profiles so please bear this in mind before you hit 'post'.

Click on the map option next to the photos....

We have not had any au pairs in the last 6 years, but when we did, the pay was £80 per week plus bed and board, pay as you go phone with £10 weekly credit, plus Oyster card so she could travel with ease. This means she got £120 rather just £80 per week.
She worked 2 hours in the morning, and 2 in the afternoons 3 days per week (school run), and 2 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon twice a week. The only light cleaning was clearing up with me after dinner. No baby sitting unless by special arrangement, no weekend work. It was an au pair plus position. But, this was 6 years ago! Their families were invited to come and stay with her if we went on holiday, so they got to explore London. We very much regarded our au pairs as friends of the family, and have stayed in touch (and friends) with 2 out of 3 of them.

QuintessentialOldDear · 28/05/2013 19:21

x post. Wink

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/05/2013 19:23

ophelia as if they're going to get mineral water. I would amend to say they can drink from the rainwater but. After the pigs. Too bad if there's a drought! Grin

FuckThisShit · 28/05/2013 19:26

That's fair enough JulieMN, but if the details are on the net already I'm guessing the can't be too concerned.

Quint that is exactly how it worked with our au pairs 12/15 years ago (had three, for one year each).

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 28/05/2013 19:28

May I point out that the farm was in HERTFORDSHIRE not HEREFORDSHIRE.
