to think our Prime Minister and his family are entitled to a summer holiday abroad?

Heaven knows I loathe the man's policies but surely he and his family are entitled to a week or two in the sun? A couple of nutters murdered an innocent man but he'd just be giving more publicity to their "cause" if he cancelled his family trip to Ibiza?

He should be seen to be in the community of Woolwich this week. Meeting people, hearing their concerns....if he's got a week to spare then he owes it t the people who are paying his BIG FAT wage. His retirement will be gold plated...unlike that of millions of others.

McBalls · 27/05/2013 11:08

Neo - what negative impact has his holiday caused?
Other than giving our twisted media a great opportunity to insist that we're a nation in crisis (!) and have been abandoned by our leader.
So, yeah, apart from made up shit, what's the problem?

CloudsAndTrees · 27/05/2013 11:08

You can't plan around things like this happening though. It is unfortunate timing, but would people expect him to come home if he was abroad having some important European meeting with all the other PMs, or if he was staying with Barak? Or is it just because he's having family time in the sun that people makes people have a problem with the fact that he's not here?

I think this is one of those non issues that the media is trying to make into an issue.

piprabbit · 27/05/2013 11:08

If I was grieving, I wouldn't want Mr Cameron hanging around making sad faces and sympathetic noises because he felt he ought to. Let him attend the funeral if that is deemed appropriate, but he doesn't need to intrude on the family.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 27/05/2013 11:09

Holly no it is not. If it WAS a non story it would not be front page. It was bad timing. He could have put it off. Not like he'd be worried about losing his deposit or something like normal people.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 27/05/2013 11:09

Pip he need no hang about making sad faces....he could meet with community leaders and hear their worries.

MeiMeiMeiMei · 27/05/2013 11:10

Setting an example? He's a millionaire married to another millionaire - do you want him to do the Sun special £9.50 for a week at Butlins?

I think as leader and pm he should be here to coordinate, lead, and strategically be involved
this is a significant situation for country,he should be here
in a significant job sometimes you step up,this is such a time.Sam and kids can go hols he should stay

tangstar · 27/05/2013 11:11

Of course he should have a holiday with his family.

But....many people have to reorganise holidays if something happens which requires them to be at work. My DH had to cancel a week off which he had booked to help me out when dc3 was born. I was pissed off but he is supporting 5 of us. In DC's case I would imagine the whole thing is massively magnified and they could always find a reason to cancel his holidays.

CloudsAndTrees · 27/05/2013 11:11

Feegle - why does he need to set an example? Confused

Are those of us that live in this country and take a holiday abroad at some point this year doing something wrong?

Why is there an example that needs to be set, especially when lots of the people the PM represents will be doing exactly the same thing?

rainbowfeet · 27/05/2013 11:11

I believe it is wrong of him at this point in time to leave the country, I have no problem in seeing him relax outside a cafe in the sun but in this country! I think it shows a lack of leadership, he has heightened security at our army barracks, bases etc, put extra met police on the streets of London but he's jumped on the 1st plane out if here!!!! Hmm

Things may well escalate today as the EDL & an anti-fascist group are demonstrating in London today, anti-Muslim feeling is running high all over the country & I think he should be at the for front of calming communities & saying no enticement of violence will be tolerated!

MP's do have a rather long holiday coming up soon, I know the PM isn't away for all of it, but he is paid a rather huge amount of money to lead this country & he can't do that from Ibiza!!!

piprabbit · 27/05/2013 11:12

Because the community leaders are going to be thrilled to cancel their bank holiday plans in order to meet with DC immediately instead of waiting til after the weekend. He's only away for 3 days.

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 27/05/2013 11:12

Why the fuck not!

A bit of 'slumming' it would be a step in the right direction.

EllieArroway · 27/05/2013 11:13

To be honest, though, Mei I would quite like to see that Grin

VerySmallSqueak · 27/05/2013 11:14

manic no I am not joking.
I am completely serious.

Domino I haven't been told to grow up since I was on the carpet in front of my old headteacher some 30 years ago
How very amusing...

Bowlersarm · 27/05/2013 11:14

Of course he should be allowed a 3 day break with his young family.

I can't quite see what he should be working on over the Bank Holiday weekend anyway. I shouldn't think parliament is open for business is it?

manicinsomniac · 27/05/2013 11:15

Why is it bad timing? The Woolwich murder was a tragic incident but so are the other, very regular (daily? weekly?) murders that happen on UK streets all the time, often for religious, racial or other 'difference' reasons that don't make the national headlines or provoke the same level of national grief and outrage. I reall don't understand why DC should drop everything for this one but not others? Because the death was that of a soldier? Is that the problem? (genuine question, not being sarcastic). What are these 'fears' that he should be out in Woolwich listening to? None that the people didn't have before I shouldn't think.

If anyone should have a presence in Woolwich at the moment it should be the royal family. I love the Royals, but I think that as the army is so tied up with royalty, as in soldiers that fight 'for Queen and country', it's the royal family that should be represented before the PM.

rainbowfeet · 27/05/2013 11:15

& yes I think it does show a lack of respect to Lee Rigby & his family!!

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 27/05/2013 11:16

Clouds - no, the rest of you are allowed Wink

You aren't the PM (are you)? He has responsibilities here that need addressing and unfortunately, for him, comes with his post.

this isn't the McRegular family needing a break,so do stop the family hol whine
dc in a senior, significant role in which he occasionally has to prioritise job over holiday
a leader,leads,is visible.hes fannying about sipping latte

Manchesterhistorygirl · 27/05/2013 11:17

Dci doesn't actually run the country you know, there are ranks and ranks of civil servants and the cabinet that really do that job, he's more a figurehead than the man with all the power! Let him have his break, him being here won't stop the fascists from massing and if needs be he's 3 hours away anyway!

MeiMeiMeiMei · 27/05/2013 11:17

but what can he DO???

the murderous scum are in police custody awaiting trial The family will hopefully be given help by the Army in making funeral preparations (though with a wife AND a fiancee in attendance that could be an awkward day) and MI5 or MI6 will be monitoring terrorist threats.
