AIBU?

All I seem to see lately is the word chavvy to describe names, items, clothes etc that people don't like.

So far names that aren't Arlo or Benedict, are double barreled or start with a K are chavvy.

Using Nanna is chavvy.

Wearing character clothing (children) is chavvy.

Everything is fucking chavvy. It makes me wonder what people think chavvy means? Am I the only one who has noticed this?

I thought that Margaret Thatcher was the best prime minister in my life time. She took a country that was in decline and turned it around.

But come on claig, she was hardly the People's PM. Her strength was also her flaw. She did what she thought was the right thing for the country and to heck with what people or her Cabinet thought.

claig · 23/05/2013 16:00

'she was hardly the People's PM'

They called her Maggie - an affectionate term.

claig · 23/05/2013 16:01

Gordon wasn't known as Gordy - instead some called him Gordon Bennett!

claig · 23/05/2013 16:03

'Her strength was also her flaw.'

What are you talking about? She had no flaws!

xylem8 · 23/05/2013 16:04

chav is a culture.A way of dressing, a way of behaving a shared set of values and beliefs.

HabbaDabba · 23/05/2013 16:05

I saw the outpourings from her affectionate 'fans' when she died.

HabbaDabba · 23/05/2013 16:06

Clink. The sound of the penny dropping.

claig · 23/05/2013 16:06

Are you referring to that disgrace Galloway?

claig · 23/05/2013 16:08

A chav in an Armani suit if ever there was one!

claig · 23/05/2013 16:09

You can dress a donkey up in fine clothes, but he is still an ass!

CherylTrole · 23/05/2013 16:45

Are you Nick claig ? I have never thought of the whos who of chavdom in the political arena. I actually would prefer a chav thread to be without any political reference.
Ah yes, Dosh and Pecs forgot them, yes chavdom personified.

'I actually would prefer a chav thread to be without any political reference.'

Lighten up, it's a joke for those who get the political references.

CherylTrole · 23/05/2013 16:51

I have a built-in Chavdar, I look at people and I can tell a Chav from a non- Chav Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/05/2013 16:52

FFS Claig, why do you always twist a thread to your own agenda?
You've taken it totally off topic now Confused

Brodicea · 23/05/2013 16:56

I know a lot of people would say 'I'm working class but certainly NOT a chav' however, you should read this:
www.amazon.co.uk/Chavs-The-Demonization-Working-Class/dp/184467696X

claig · 23/05/2013 16:57

LadyBeagles, why don't you stop criticising other posters and telling scottishmummy - who is MN royalty, which you most certainly aren't - to ODFO, and stop stalking me and criticising my posts and post something interesting yourself.

I replied to a post about why we are more class obsessed than other European countries and that took it down this line. Before that i replied to LaQueen's comment about people driving XR2is - which was a car that I always wanted but could never afford.

Have you got anything interesteing to say about from ODFO and FFS?

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 23/05/2013 16:58

who is MN royalty, which you most certainly aren't

MN royalty is a load of bollocks claig

OwlLady · 23/05/2013 16:58

ow on earth has the thread got onto Margaret Thatcher?

claig · 23/05/2013 16:59

scottishmummy is MN royalty in my opinion
Her posts are legendary

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 23/05/2013 16:59

Owl No idea! Threads never stay on track though on here

CherylTrole · 23/05/2013 17:05

Claig I was being lighthearted acshully!!!!!!!
MN royalty does exist and so do MN royalty chavs Wink

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/05/2013 17:05

There is no MN royalty.
And if there were, SM would hate to be referred to as that.
And your'e stalking me as I wos on this thread first.

claig · 23/05/2013 17:07

scottishmummy disagrees with a lot of other posters' points and does so in a most forthright fashion. That is why she has earned - like it or not - the title of MN royalty!

OwlLady · 23/05/2013 17:07

this is new to me, this royalty thing
so if royal you get servants, butlers etc? Is this what claig is for scottishmummy?
