AIBU?

All I seem to see lately is the word chavvy to describe names, items, clothes etc that people don't like.

So far names that aren't Arlo or Benedict, are double barreled or start with a K are chavvy.

Using Nanna is chavvy.

Wearing character clothing (children) is chavvy.

Everything is fucking chavvy. It makes me wonder what people think chavvy means? Am I the only one who has noticed this?

Goal That's what I mean. The term chavvy is been used to describe things that people just simply dont like. I dont like alot of thing other MNetters seem to rave about but I wouldn't use chavvy as it makes no sense

Stay away from those things vinegar. Trust me, they're a waste of money and will make you look like a dafty.

goal Yess!! What's your opinion on Eve Lom, Dermatologica and assorted Space NK gloop?

I think I might have given away my feelings there.

Goal · 22/05/2013 16:35

Tantrumsandballons - as anyone said anything about character? I certainly wouldn't judge your character.

Goal · 22/05/2013 16:40

Sp- no its not just things people don't like. I don't like Japanese food, but wouldn't call it chavvy, I would call KFC chavvy.

SilverOldie · 22/05/2013 16:40

YABU. Chav is a good word to describe some people, names, things. Ie Kai and Klay Rooney are chav names, just as their parents are chavs.

It has absolutely nothing to do with class, there are chavs in both working and middle classes.

How can a fast food place be chavvy? Confused

This thread is really interesting!

I'm 39, grew up in a very working-class household (with very little money, clothes all second-hand, etc) in a very run-down part of Birmingham, but weirdly my family was viewed as 'posh' in the local area because a) we were a solid family unit, b) my parents were happily married, 3) there was no domestic violence (as in the majority of other local families, 4) me and my siblings had manners and did well at school and 5) there were no drugs/alcohol issues. My friend's family was seen as 'posh' for the same reasons. Consequently, me, my siblings, my friend and her sisters were bullied and picked on until well into our teens.

Today, I have 3 dc of my own, all polite, well-mannered and do really well at school. There is still very little money in our house, we struggle on a weekly basis. I would view my family as working-class still. I do wonder where my family sits on the chav scale.

I really don't think it is a working-class thing. I'm damned proud of my roots. My Dad was a staunch socialist when I was a kid, very supportive of the Miner's Strike (I was on marches at 10) and worker's rights. He was also involved in the court case to make busking legal. We had fuck all money or material stuff, but we had morals and values.

I'm not sure where my ramble is going actually...

Heartbrokenmum73 · 22/05/2013 16:41

There you go, question answered, I LOVE KFC - I'm a Chav!!!

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 22/05/2013 16:42

Limitedperiod- I love all that shit! Total sucker for a nicely packaged moisturiser Overpriced pretentious face gloop, count me in!

Goal · 22/05/2013 16:43

Fast foodplaces are by their nature chavvy!

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 22/05/2013 16:44

So are people that enter those places 'chavvy' by association?

OP posts:
MummytoMog · 22/05/2013 16:45

Gosh, you can't combine Lucius and Agamemnon. Don't be silly. It would have to be Lucius Junius Brutus, or Lucius Caesar or Menelaus Agamemnon or Agamemnon Atreus.

I so wanted to give DD Iolanthe as a middle name. Sigh.

usualsuspect · 22/05/2013 16:45

Why are the Rooneys chavs,Silver?

usualsuspect · 22/05/2013 16:46

Why is KFC chavvy?

Goal · 22/05/2013 16:46

Good question! I would say that going there is a fairly chavvy thing to do! That said the crispy coating does taste good!!!

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 22/05/2013 16:47

Usual Because they gave their children K names that aren't the MN norm it seems. If I was them I'd happily be a chav! I'd be chavving it up on my 8 holidays a year

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 22/05/2013 16:48
