I commute in and out of London daily. I am now very used to seeing women every morning applying a full face on their way to work. I don't do this myself as I like to do my prep in privacy at home.

But.. I am sat next to a young woman with a caked on face who has whipped out the baby wipes. She has wiped off all the make up (before wiping her face on her jumper the dirty moo!) and is now reapplying. The whole lot! With dirty hands! Why?

What do I not get here? Would I be unreasonable to ask her why she thinks this is ok? Am I being a judgey old cow?

It's rude to stare...
Look out the window or read a book.

I personally would be too self conscious to apply full make up on the train purely because of people like you watching my every move!

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 20:57

get out bed in good time to Put on your slap
or perfect the 5minute application
it's minging

TheOrchardKeeper · 21/05/2013 20:58

it's not discussing when you're insulting them, is it?

And people faff with all sort on the train.

As long as they're not sitting on your lap and changing a tampon whilst flicking nail trimmings at you then what difference does it make?

Anyway, I got the answer I asked for. It's just 'common' Hmm

usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 20:58

Lack of regard ?

How, how is it affecting anyone else?

crashdoll · 21/05/2013 20:58

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that we can only talk about Very Important Things on MN. Perhaps we could be provided with a list from the thread police.

usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 20:59

So someone looking 'common' bothers you then?

yeah, ok.

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:00

one tries not to look but when kat slater is applying her gloop, and sparkly shite it's an imposition

NoelHeadbands · 21/05/2013 21:01

Fucks sake what is it with MN and the 'its so common' posts today?

TheOrchardKeeper · 21/05/2013 21:01

some people just can't feel better about themselves without feeling superior to others...

EeyoreIsh · 21/05/2013 21:02

Make up on train is a little annoying.

However, I was in a Board meeting last week. The note taker was filing her nails.

It's unprofessional.

It's dirty and disgusting.

I was really annoyed.

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:02

not bothered how one attire looks.i am grossed out by application of slap on train

usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 21:03

MN is full of Mrs Bucket types today.

Manyofhorror3 · 21/05/2013 21:05

I got into an almost empty carriage - there was just one man sitting by a window. A big, big woman got on after me, she was easily 6', and was wearing a voluminous mac and despite loads and loads of seats being empty, she sat next to the man and then took off and reapplied her makeup and brushed her hair, complete with repeated rummaging in her bag, poking her elbows in his face and pulling out the old hairs from her hairbrush!
I was fascinated that she could be so unaware of how bloody annoying she was being, and I couldn't look away! I fully expected the man to leap up and start screaming but he didn't. He sat there, all silent and British, whilst she squelched and flicked and tweased! Bleugh!!!

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:05

oh spare me the askance indignation.its common.get over it
mn judges the buggy you push, clothes wean wears,so don't make out it shock

usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 21:06

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:07

usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 21:09

You do make me laugh, SM Grin

SoulTrain · 21/05/2013 21:10

Flipping Nora.....disgusting? She's just touching her face. Don't see anything weird at all about it and wouldn't ever even consider it remotely weird/disgusting.

Odd. Confused

crashdoll · 21/05/2013 21:10

I'm not sure why not liking to see someone applying make-up makes me think I am superior. It just means I don't like to see it. Nothing groundbreaking. Some people do like to make everything about class and superiority and common-ness. Can some things not just be?

NoelHeadbands · 21/05/2013 21:10

Some of MN judges that stuff, some also don't.

There has been a load of twattishness about today though

SoulTrain · 21/05/2013 21:10

Sorry - apparently it's common. Fucking hell.

SauvignonBlanche · 21/05/2013 21:11

I'm with Scottishmummy on this one and I'm no Margot either.

Decoy · 21/05/2013 21:11

OK, so the male equivalent then. Deodorant spray, some hair gelling, electric shaver etc. Would that be OK? Nice to have to sit next to?

scottishmummy · 21/05/2013 21:11

dam right I feel superior to someone applying make up on train
I have superior time management inc family out door and don't need to apply on train
I have superior manners in that I don't impose upon others

Finola1step · 21/05/2013 21:11

I didn't say she was common. Nor do I think it's common. I was wondering if it is more an age / generation thing hence the reference to her being a young woman in my OP.

I was not staring (as she was sitting next to me, not in front). But I was prodded by her elbows several times as she faffed about. So maybe IABU to be fed up. Maybe not.
