Was just wondering as I am 29 and a mother of two young children and I'm not a huge fan of clothes shopping and am by no means a fashion icon!!! But was wondering where you shop and how old you were as the shops I seem to like seem to be popular with people older than me which is giving me a complex!!! Not helped by my dh saying some of my clothes are hideous!!

Mid 50s, totally uninterested in fashion. Shop mainly in charity shops, occasionally in M & S.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/05/2013 11:23

I'm 29

I like H&M for the little dresses, scarves and patterned/coloured tights.

New Look for my trademark indigo skinny trousers! (bargain at 20 quid a pair)

As for anything else, if I like it and it looks good on me then i'll buy it regardless of where it is from!

I also like trawling charity shops, I like to sing The Thrift Shop song while I do it.

I must admit I'm not the biggest fan of Next though. Especially their casual tops, they have a very distinctive print and design that just screams "I'm from Next!" Plus their bras don't fit me well at all.

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 20/05/2013 11:38

28 and due to fatness and being broke, most of my stuff is from Peacocks, New Look, Asda, H&M, ebay & charity shops. Next is luxury in my world, pmsl.

stopgap · 20/05/2013 11:50

I'm in New York, so shop online at Bloomingdale's, and mostly buy:

J-Brand jeans
Tees from Splendid and James Perse
Diane von Furstenberg
Ella Moss
Vince
Haute Hippie
Bloomie's own brand for cheaper stuff

I discount clothes that come in numerical sizes, and opt for everything in size small, with 90% of it fitting fine.

kalidasa · 20/05/2013 11:51

I'm 33, 5'5'', about nine stone. Had a baby six months ago and my weight is pretty much back to what it was before but my figure is still a bit weird (giant boobs, slightly wobbly tummy). So I was an 8-10 before pregnancy; more like a 12 for a few months afterwards and about a 10 now but with a big bust (32GG - hoping it will subside once I stop feeding!)

I buy most often from:

Jaeger (knitwear, shirts, jackets)
Nicole Fahri (dresses, trousers, tops)
Comptoir des Cotonniers (casual basics, especially tops and trousers)
Zara (basic vest tops etc; also loads of work dresses before I was pregnant but haven't tried since as waiting for figure to settle)
Gap for jeans
assorted charity shops
occasionally TKMaxx

KellyElly · 20/05/2013 11:55

I'm 34 - H&M, River Island, Oasis, Jane Norman (mainly jeans/trousers), TopShop (summer bits). If I'm feeling rich - Ted Baker, All Saints, French Connection, Reiss, Guess, Karen Millan. Also get some bits in TK Maxx.

Hi, I'm 32 and a UK size 6-8. I used to be a 10, I haven't changed but I think vanity sizing has a lot to answer for! I have Top Shop stuff in my wardrobe bought years ago with a 10 label that is the same size as size 6 stuff now. Anyway, I digress.

Favourite shops are:

Oasis, Warehouse, Uniqlo, H&M, M&S, Dorothy Perkins, Gap, Benetton.

I used to love Next about ten years ago but never go there now - not even for DD's stuff. I just think the quality has gone - completely.

I am living in the US right now and have really struggled to find things small enough here - currently 16 weeks pregnant and still fit into a pair of supposedly size 0 shorts. These are honestly more like a UK 12. It gets really annoying after a time and I end up buying lots of Oasis and Warehouse online and having it shipped over. In fact, there's one great website where stuff is half the price of the UK but turns up with the full UK £ price tags on.

Underwear is a mix of M&S - boring everyday (all the British expats I know stock up when they're home), Calvin Klein - nice stuff, bargains to be had stateside and Bravado seamless silk feeding bras - post DD and now going into second pregnancy. Interestingly, it's cheaper to buy these in the UK.

Can anyone tell I spend way too much time comparing the best deals by country?!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 20/05/2013 13:48

I used to love Jane Norman/Next and Dotty P's but its just overpriced tat now.Saying that I do buy Jane Norman jeans.

I detest M and S.

And the day I buy something from Bon Marche (some are still open up here), is the day I give up on life :o

musicmadness · 20/05/2013 14:41

I'm 21, and I generally shop in:

Primark
New Look
Asda
EMP online
Sohos
H&M

I haven't been shopping for clothes anywhere recently though - I'm skint!

ShadeofViolet · 20/05/2013 14:47

I am late 20's and I mainly shop in H&M, although I get my jeans from Topshop because I like their petite range.

DialsMavis · 20/05/2013 14:48

I'm 31 and skint: primark and H&M, if I was less skint it would be the above & French Connection, Urban Outfitters and Topshop

CakeInMyFace · 20/05/2013 15:00

Miss selfridge and topshop for petite sizes
Sometimes get tops, shoes and handbags river island

VerySmallSqueak · 20/05/2013 15:12

Early 40's and I shop in charity shops and jumble sales (but I have very distinct ideas of what I like from within those confines).

OP,please don't let your DHs' judgement on your sense of style dictate what you wear.

classifiedinformation · 20/05/2013 15:15

I buy most of my clothes online, mainly because of cost and availability. Also I detest clothes shopping as I am fat.

I do get quite a bit of stuff from my local Next store as well though, mostly dresses and tops, the trousers and jeans are too low cut and give me a lovely muffin top.

I really like Simply Be as they have alot of on trend looks. I have also been known to buy from Seasalt, but only when they have a sale lol. I also have some Iron Fist shoes, but then, shoes are my true love!

I am 38 and a size 14/16.

Wuldric · 20/05/2013 15:42

I am 46 and a size 10 or 12, depending on the shop

I avoid Primark/Supermarkets/Miss Selfridge/Top Shop/River Island/Boden/New Look. It just saves time and stops me from getting grumpy. I am a grumpy old woman, especially when I have to shop.

I mostly end up buying from:

M&S for all underwear and tights
Hobbs for just about everything - seriously 75% of my wardrobe is Hobbs
French Connection
Agnes b
Whistles
Joules
Zara - only for their tops though
Levis online for jeans (they do a 34" leg and I am TALL)

I will go into the following shops, but rarely buy from them

Monsoon
Ted Baker
Karen Millen
Kurt Geiger

Handbags - Mulberry

Shoes - I generally go to this place called Charles Clinkard which is an independent and seriously, you get lovely stuff that is really quite reasonably priced and nice

Mostly Topshop, cos I find lots of boring simple clothes in there which fit me. I like Zara too, you can find some good bargains there sometimes and the quality's not so bad for high street stuff. Or my dad's wardrobe, or charity shops for jumpers! I don't really shop for clothes very often, it's boring. As long as I don't stand out I really don't care- I don't have a style.....except my uniform of skinny jeans and grandad jumpers!

My mum is early 50s and gets the RAGE in Topshop Grin last trip there, she stormed out: "I'm never going in there again! horrible shop!". It used to be embarrassing. Now we can laugh about it at the recovery stop we have to make in a cafe. Well, I laugh, she gives me a begrudging chuckle and concentrates on her Yorkshire tea.

Yawner247 · 22/05/2013 17:05

Thanks for all the responses!! Grin

50% of my clothes come from a shop in my village which stocks inexpensive Scandinavian labels - Vero Moda, Only and the like. Places like House of Fraser stock them too.
I also buy a fair bit from Reiss and All Saints.

Mind you, I get the most compliments when I wear a summer dress I bought from Primark for £12 years ago!
