Particularly the man who yelled at him "foreigners are welcome in Scotland, you're not!"

:o

There was a great photo of him on the front page of the Herald today.

Anyone see it?

TeWiSavesTheDay · 17/05/2013 19:33

I think protest voters, voting for a party they don't believe in - and who are also racist, sexist and crappy politicians who rarely turn up to European Parliament - totally fucking batshit.

Fair enough you don't want to vote for a local big 3. Vote for an independent. Vote for a different small party. Spoil your ballot paper.

Don't vote for a racist/sexist party you don't actually agree with. Or you run the huge risk of ending up with a racist/sexist party you don't agree with in charge of your life and your country.

Sheshelob · 17/05/2013 19:33

Clouds

The protest as uncivilised thing is getting old. Protesting is about getting fired about about something you believe in. He was lucky they didn't throw things at him, quite frankly.

They are detestable bigots and misogynists who will do anything to get their hands on a tiny slice of power. We have a strong tradition of fighting for what we believe in, in this country. In the face of fascists, civility gets you nowhere.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/05/2013 19:33

They didn't just chant scum.

They also chanted "bawbag" grin

I too am proud of the protest. We have a right to protest and it was entirely peaceful.

I have no idea on what planet UKIP thinks it can make inroads into Scottish politics. We are a seperate country and UKIP is just irrelevant.

xkittyx · 17/05/2013 19:33

I disagree - I think they understood both just fine. They were very much within their rights to give that odious man the message that he and his policies were not welcome in Scotland.
I'm so glad that Scotland is the part of the UK I chose to make my home when I came here as an immigrant 13 years ago.

CremeEggThief · 17/05/2013 19:34

Go Scotland! Time this horrid man was put in his place!

xkittyx · 17/05/2013 19:35

My post was in response to LadyGranulomaFortesque.

Sparhawk · 17/05/2013 19:35

flippinada He has a face like a bulldog licking piss off of a nettle, smarmy git.

Wallison · 17/05/2013 19:35

Grin @ "bawbag". Weren't expecting that were you, you racist piece of shit?

scottishmummy · 17/05/2013 19:38

bawbag,it's so priceless
farage used to angsty socialist worker types
not full on scots shouting he's bawbag

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/05/2013 19:39

According to the Guardian it was actually"

"Nigel, you're a bawbag, Nigel you're a bawbag, na, na, na, hey!".

[Grin]

Sheshelob · 17/05/2013 19:39

Bawbag Grin

flippinada · 17/05/2013 19:42

Now I'm ambivalent about Scotland being independent but I reckon Farage has give the "Yes" campaigners a massive boost.

You could practically hear Alex Salmond doing a gleeful air punch when the news broke...

babyboomersrock · 17/05/2013 19:43

I thought it was a pretty good-natured protest actually and if I'd known it was on, I'd have been across the Forth bridge to join in.

Our English friends needn't fear us - there's a welcome at the door for anyone, as long as they don't expect to spout racist nonsense at us without interruption. Farage and his followers have shown themselves for the politically ignorant eejits they are - had they really no idea what kind of reception they'd encounter?

I guess maybe there is a difference in attitude up here - we're a' Jock Tamson's bairns after all - and we don't feel we have to fawn on people just because they've won a few votes somewhere. Let's hope our English counterparts take heart from this and show Farage he isn't welcome in English politics either.

flippinada · 17/05/2013 19:43

Grin Sparhawk

MrsKoala · 17/05/2013 20:15

Sparhawk - HAHAHA! that misogynist link is hilarious. I can just imagine the inner monologue 'i'm not a misogynist, i love women...especially their boobs, mmm boobs, look at my pictures with the attractive ladies...who have boobs' It's like the lovely girls contest in Father Ted. Classic.

The only Scottish i have in me is DH, but after reading about this i wish there was more! I may ask him to wear his kilt ;)

WhereYouLeftIt · 17/05/2013 20:24

Have just heard the radio interview where he hung up the phone on the interviewer.

I am fascinated that he is so incapable of handling anyone disagreeing with him/questioning him/ pointing out the bleedin' obvious. As if he's never ever experienced it. But then, he just looks like the golf club bore who props up the bar, speaking only to the other bores; so maybe he hasn't ever had to deal with it ...

(Bawbag - classic! Grin)

claig · 17/05/2013 20:28

The thing is this incident will only increase support for UKIP acroos the United Kingdom. Whenever people see what looks like a coordinated rabble of socialist workers or others hurling abuse at national politicians, thousands of people watching across the land feel sorry for the politicians and don't identify with the rabble.

Farage told the BBC interviewer in Scotland that he had Scottish UKIP members in Scotland in response to the BBC interviewer's questioning of why Farage was in Scotland and whether he knew anything about Scotland.

There was a 25% vote for UKIP in the English local elections.
UKIP has Scottish members. I don't think that that rabble represents the majority of Scottish voters.

HeadFairy · 17/05/2013 20:33

has anyone pointed out to Nigel Farage that without immigration our birth rate is actually in decline and with our demographics changing rapidly to an ageing population with fewer and fewer young people of working age able to support them, we're actually fucked without immigrants?

OP posts:
claig · 17/05/2013 20:36

Farage told the BBC interviewer in scotland that until recently interviewers in England had also written him and his party off.

What is the percentage turnout for elections in Scotland?

Maybe the BBC interviewer in Scotland has underestimated a protest vote against Labour and the Scottish Nationalists in Scotland, just as English media interviewers and pollsters had underestimated the protest vote in England.

Unami · 17/05/2013 20:40

I don't think you're right, Claig. I think the protest in Scotland will encourage people to drop the fake deference for UKIP and their ilk.

There is also simply no way that UKIP would absorb any part of a protest vote in Scottish elections - Scottish politics simply isn't set up that way, especially not in a post-devolution context. Anyone who thinks that Scottish voters are hankering after UKIP representation knows nothing about Scottish politics, and that's why Farage has been asked what on earth he's playing at. It was evidently a big mistake, as the protest shows.

claig · 17/05/2013 20:41

'has anyone pointed out to Nigel Farage that without immigration our birth rate is actually in decline and with our demographics changing rapidly to an ageing population with fewer and fewer young people of working age able to support them, we're actually fucked without immigrants?'

Well it won't be greens, because many leading greens and environmentalists want population control because they tell us that resources are running out and our carbon footprint is harming the planet.

YonisAreForever · 17/05/2013 20:46

On my two visits to scotland I experienced and witnessed an extreme loathing for English people.

One lad really got on his high horse going on about what us Englanders did centuries ago, raped and pillaged, he looked like he was going to hit me.

Someone had to step in, ask me if I was from Landed Gentry, I said not, they said so your family line would probably have been subjected to the same torments then from the greedy land owners.

that just about penetrated his brain and he fucked off.

I have never seen such open and visible hatred towards any race myself as I saw in Scotland.

I also think you'll find that " immigrants" who have been here a long time, have to use our services just like everyone else.

They want to get their children into schools, they want to get a docs appointment, they want hospitals to be safe, they want people in need - political refugees to want to come here. Immigrants also want to be able to live and use things and not be swamped. Which is what the Labour has now admitted, and the Conservatives - ie that we have been swamped and its failed.

Its this very in abilty to say - I like " diversity" I like Britain with its many races, BUT that still means I do not want millions of people to come and swamp us! Without being labelled racist That has led to the rise of UKIP,.

I think you will find lots of established and newer immigrants will be voting UKIP as someone said - if nothing else to vote with their feet on immigration along with many others who simply want free flow immigration to stop. If you need a doctor you need a doctor no matter where your from.

claig · 17/05/2013 20:47

Unami, when I first saw the protest on TV, I thought it was a roundup call of the usual socialist worker types - the 50 or so who rock up to shout at government ministers wherever they go.

A bunch of bullies and boors who try to intimidate politicians and prevent free debate do not go down well with the majority of people. We are a tolerant and courteous nation and don't like bully tactics by rabbles.

Farage says he has Scottish UKIP members. It seems that the majority of Scots, according to polls, are now not in favour of Scottish independence. Are they all Labour supporters, or are some of them also disaffected with Labour. Could some of the tactics of the rabble backfire and cause the disaffected to have sympathy for UKIP in Scotland?

Lazyjaney · 17/05/2013 20:47

I see a certain irony that the people trying to secede from the UK are crapping all over the UK guy trying to secede from the EU.
