PacificDogwood · 13/05/2013 20:15

Oh and YANBU of course.

StuntGirl · 13/05/2013 20:16

It's pathetic. I signed the petition this morning.

OddBoots · 13/05/2013 20:19

I think the trouble that Disney know that her doll next to the other 'princesses' would show the others up as being of unrealistic proportion so they have seen no choice.

DoctorAnge · 13/05/2013 20:20

Fucking AWFUL isn't it?

Where is the petition?

StuntGirl · 13/05/2013 20:22

It's linked to in the guardian article.

StuntGirl · 13/05/2013 20:23

Linky

Amrapaali · 13/05/2013 20:25

Meh. I don't see the fuss, TBH. It IS Disney, after all. Its what they've always done. Their heroines are fresh, wholesome, gutsy girls/women in their movies. But when it comes to marketing their crap stuff, all of the princesses are dolled up in awful makeup and striking idiotic poses.

Pocahontas, Mulan none escaped the "makeover". Don't know if Merida is supposed to be younger than all the others, but the flicky eyeliner could have been avoided. And what happened to her bow???

JanePlanet · 13/05/2013 20:26

Urgh, how disappointing. YANBU.

LadyBeagleEyes · 13/05/2013 20:32

Is it just me that doesn't see much difference between the two of them.Confused?

StuntGirl · 13/05/2013 20:33

Are you looking at the wrong picture lady? Grin

MummyBurrows · 13/05/2013 20:34

If I didn't know any better I wouldn't even think it was the same character!! It looks more like a new character they're going to add if they make a Brave 2 and its going to be Merida's slutty long-lost older sister who needs rescuing from her pimp rather than what it actually is which is apparently the same head strong tomboy teenage Merida!! Absolutely disgusting!! If its not broke don't fix it!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the original Merida!!

CloudsAndTrees · 13/05/2013 20:38

I don't see the big deal. It's Disney.

If they hadn't made her look more appealing then she wouldn't have fitted in with the other princesses. Which would be fine, except the other ones do look more attractive IMO, and possibly in the opinions of many little girls, and you are not going to create a character with qualities that girls want to aspire to be like if they aren't attracted to her.

StuntGirl · 13/05/2013 20:41

In fairness there's nothing slutty about the new character. She's clearly older with a slimmer waist to accentuate her hips and boobs more, her hair is thicker, lighter in colour and the curls more defined, her face shape and facial features are different (almond shaped eyes, thinner nose, pout-ier lips) and she's wearing make up. Oh, and that bloody glittery dress. But she's not slutty.

I saw that today, really really pissed off.

LadyBeagleEyes · 13/05/2013 20:54

I haven't seen the film I must admit.

PacificDogwood · 13/05/2013 20:57

Petition signed.

I think it is a big deal and just saying 'ah well, Disney have always done it' is not good enough.
They shouldn't have done it with Pocahontas or Mulan if they did as well - I wouldn't know; Disney stores make my teeth itch Grin

Fakebook · 13/05/2013 21:04

I think the seductive eyes change her look. The waist isn't all that smaller, and her face is still round and plump. It's all in the eyes. She's lost her innocence with that ugly Bratz type eye makeup.

CrapBag · 13/05/2013 21:37

I have signed it, thanks for the link.

I saw this story this morning and I was disgusted. I took DS to see Brave and while it isn't the best Disney film, I absolutely loved the character of Merida. How they have changed her is NOT how she would be, the gutsy person, in the film at all.

pointythings · 13/05/2013 22:32

I've signed this. I felt Merida was at last a step in the right direction, disgusting that they've backtracked this way.

JumpingJackSprat · 13/05/2013 23:57

Ladybeagle i cant see what the fuss is about either. the differences are imperceptible.
