Am I being silly?

Bit panicky and on phone. I live in a caravan (static) and its a bit rainy and windy outside. I popped outside to put the lid on DS sand pit and found a 6 inch knife outside the bathroom window.

It was not there today, and there are caravans either side of us that are empty. There is also a very large dog poo but that could be anybody's dog that is on site. I've brought the knife inside,would I be over reacting if I woke DS (4) up and drove to a hotel/my dads house?
Trying to think of a innocent reason why it would be there but cant.

Bit weepy atm and feel embarrassed as I've always said how great it is here and how safe it is.

If you dont feel safe, then go to your Dads.

How close by are your nearest neighbours though? could you go to them first?

I'd be freaked out too yanbu but could you call someone to come to you?

There probably is an innocent explanation (dog picked it up?) but if you're worried and can get there safely then go to your dad's.

I would call the police I think, for my peace of mind.

The dog may have dropped it there having dug it up or something but still, I'd be away. In fact I'd ring the police after I was away.

There are 14 caravans in a big circle but only two are occupied. There is a dodgy site right next to us that has the police there regularly. But we have no travellers on my bit.

Feel like such a wimp. The other person who lives accross the way has a big rottie so that may explain the poo. But I'm here on my own with DS. Going to shove a duvet in the car now. Just cannot think of a reason to have a knife outside a window at this time of night.

Silly how things seem worse at night. Curtains are quite see through,feel like I'm in a fish tank.

Sat in car (locked) I shoved DS in pjs with dome duvets. Just ringing my dad now. Going to head over. I have the knife with me. It's a black, six inch aerated kitchen knife.

I think you should ring the police when you get to your dads, they might want to go and check it out.

someone tomorrow is going to be saying 'wtf did I do with the bread knife' and trying to retrace their steps finally realising they used it to open some stupid plastic packaging or something and left it outside.

Then they are going to realise that it isn't outside still and then realise a neighbour has probably freaked out about it. Cue mortified neighbour posting on MN saying my neighbour probably thinks i'm trying to kill her.

I bet there is a perfectly reasonable explanation, it just doesn't feel like it on a dark windy wet night.

Hopefully there is an innocent reason, but I think you are doing the right thing if you really didn't feel safe enough to stay.

Just arrived at dads now, put DS in spare room. Feel angry now that I won't feel safe anymore.

Dad isn't very happy. I moan about him (on here) all the time he also thinks I should discuss it with the police. But the owners are travellers and will be fuming if they knew I went to the police before going to them. They already have problems with the adjoining site as it is, and will most likely take it personally that next door may have been trespassing. I'm purely speculating btw. Sausage, your post made me .
I really hope it's as was suggested that the other guy found his dog pooing and and maybe grabbed him and if he's out at night maybe he carries a knife and it dropped out? He's a gentle giant, and the dog is lovely.
Going to bed now but I promise I will update one I've spoken to the owners.

Best thing that can happen is that you find out it is someones knife, owned and lost for quite innocent reasons, then you can relax again.

UPDATE

Feeling very silly now!

Went and told owner that I thought someone was trying to kill me,when the gentle giant from a few caravans down lopes round the corner.
Turn out it is his knife and it was missing. His dog keeps chewing the handles,so when he saw his dog with the knife in his mouth he shouted at it and it ran off with said knife.

Sooo, very plausible reason for it being outside my bathroom window.
