I used to date a current guardian columnist. I'm quite middle class. I read the guardian quite a bit. I'm very leftie.

I'm not sure if I'm in or out though.

Well, if we are allowed to be WC as well as a wooly, birkie-wearing, bearded leftie, then I'm in.

(Well, I'm poor, but not so poor that I'd buy anything other that maldon & clipper organic.)

I'm very interested and surprised by the linking of middle-classnessness with money.

All the MC lefties I know are raving skinters.

Can I join in? Definitely leftie (green rather than labour or libs), and I read the guardian but prefer the I. You really couldn't fit me into any class, very varied and mixed up social ancestry.

Hilly, I was a bit thrown by that too. I'd always thought of MC in terms of education.

Me too!

I read the Guardian, and I'm a Leftie, but about as far from middle class as you can be. I'd probably be described as part of the "Underclass" by the current government. Hmm Oh but I'm also a secret DM reader. Blush (I love the sidebar of shame).

Was working class then but am middle class now, but always a leftie.

Guardian reading leftie and glad to have a thread to reinforce it as have had to give up muesli and lentils (low-carbing) and feet are not ready for sandals.

Me!

bigkidsdidit · 07/05/2013 19:57

yup we're skint

I think I'm MC because both my parents are profs. My mum claims to be WC becuase she remembers her childhood co-op number (?) DH claims to be WC because he is from Glasgow. Never mind his dad is an architect and he went to university and is a professional Confused

Yes.......but have gone off The Guardian since I made the mistake of adding the comment is free app on Facebook - couldn't bear all the sanctimonious gits commenting away, apparently just thinking whatever The Guardian had told them to think, rather than forming their own opinions. I think I should probably just not read comments, rather than this being specific to The Guardian, but it has still put me off!

Ha! My df is like that too! He is the child of a doctor (DM) and a banker (df) and the grandchild of a medical chief superintendent and an engineer, but because he chose to be a mechanic and his great great uncle was a butler he is 'proudly working class'!

I read it when I can.

Happy to 'fess up to the middle class(in reduced circumstances) leftie liberal label.

Off to weave some yoghurt and other stereotypes....

"Raving skinter"- c'est moi!

Guardian reading single mum on benefits- but I know I'm middle class, as I know the right way to pronounce "prosciutto". Grin
