Dyson vacuum cleaner- built to fail?

I have bught new filters and fixed the band on the dyson. It is absolutely useless. Absolutely useless. And it makes a horrible noise. The motor is doing something.

I am in the fortunate position of having more than one happy Henry. Both the old codgers still work and are very simple to clean out and fix. They have so far survived conditions not usually suitable for a vacuum cleaner. It just seems silly that the vacuum cleaner that has to go is the one which is supposed to be brilliant. I have taken it apart, cleaned through all the pipes, fixed the band...changed the filters... All I get for my efforts is a ghastly roaring noise... On a more general theme, do vacuum cleaners have to make such a horrible noise? Likewise hand drying machines?

As I say every time Henry is recommended they are fine if you don't like clean carpets. If I see a Henry in someone's house I put my shoes on!

Sebo felix is the best I've found. Beats dyson hands down. Dustpan and brush beats Henry

We have two Dysons, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. (DH and I both had one when we got married and never got rid of one.) Mine is 7 years old, his is 5 years old, neither has ever broken down. We love ours. When they do break, we'll be going for another one.

Mr Dyson moved production to China because his profits weren't enough by manufacturing them in the UK - big mistake.
They have lost their reputation because Mr Dyson, who thinks he is the best engineer in the world, wanted a bigger profit margin.

Dr Martens moved production to China - big mistake. Most of the shoes/ boots leak even when brand new. The factory in Leicestershire had skilled workers who had spent all their working life making top quality foot wear.
They have lost their previously excellent reputation.

I luff my Dyson. After 12 years the hose on my Dyson pulled apart, I can still use it but it's a pain. After reading reviews I went for a cheaper Vax. I hated it. So when 'D'H left I palmed him off with the new Vax and invested in a DC33.

I was ashamed at the amount of cat hair and dirt it whooshed it. My Dyson is fab.

Have had 2, both good. Cleaner who had a Miele Cat & Dog kept muttering how much better Dyson was until her husband bought her one :).

I have a geriatric DC05 animal and love it. It's almost 10 years old and just as efficient now as it always has been. Never had an issue with it, and it's only had a replacement filter in the last ten years, and that's because I washed the wrong filter and it disintegrated. Mine was one of the UK made ones though.

Mind you, the rate I hoover, it's probably only had about four years actual life

I hope you can get your issues sorted out Oblomov! Freaky that they are obviously monitoring the interweb for mention of their product though

I have a DC02 and it still works very well. I got it in 1998.

I know several people with ones bought recently (in the past two years) who have had no end of trouble with them.

Clearly the old ones were built to last, the new ones are just not up to scratch. When mine eventually dies I'll not be getting another. Oblamov and Myfubyiseday have confirmed what a lot of other people have told me.
