Dyson vacuum cleaner- built to fail?

I have bught new filters and fixed the band on the dyson. It is absolutely useless. Absolutely useless. And it makes a horrible noise. The motor is doing something.

I hated mine. It was a wedding present so felt I had to persevere with the heavy, unwieldy piece of shite! Not a massive problem though as it had fault after fault and was knackered in a couple of years. I got my no frill bargain electrolux mondo out of the garden shed and it lasted about another 8 years!

Love love love my dyson.

It's the only vacuum cleaner we have ever had that lasted longer than 13 months.

And it cleans brilliantly.

I had a very early Dyson constructed from plastic with all the structural integrity of Wotsits. By the time its second motor exploded it was more gaffer tape than machine. I Freecycled all the remaining bits and its remains adorn half a dozen cannibalised Frankenstein monster machines.

I now have a Miele. No part of it is made of gaffer tape, but I do have to sift through the bag manually for crucial bits of Lego once it's full.

I love my Dyson but they did give it to me free!

I had a lovely engineer from Dyson who came out last week to fix my machine and vacuumed up after himself. It now has a new motor, and two new filters.

Love ours but mainly as it is a stowaway and we have a tiny house with limited storage. It is better than other hoovers we had but you expect that for the price.

How old was your dyson op?

Love our dysons, DC32 animal, brilliant and works perfectly.

The filters are on the line drying at the moment, dyson sends a text to remind you to do so, surprisingly often.

we have several henrys, normal and industrial, we use for work, but the dyson if you take over somewhere a henry has been it will pick up more, the dyson is far superior,

If your dyson is not working properly wash the filters, and check there not a blockage anywhere, and you do have to empty them a lot, but this one easy, bottom drops out with a click, love how it clips easily to together, we have a special brush for wood floors, this one came with a massive pack of different heads. we have a lot of big hairy dogs, it works brilliantly picking up dog hair.

We still have our original first one(DC02? I think, grey and yellow) , it works fine. We use in the workshops.

mine is great, over ten years old and pink and lilac (was reduced drastically due to Colour scheme! I'll have sparkly adorned appliances if it gets me a bargain!) Grin

I clean the filter and give the pipes a good loofer every month. have had it properly serviced twice.

I want a new cleaner but can't justify it.

My Dad would never let Mum have a Dyson as he boycotted the products due to a personal dislike of Mr Dyson.

DH has broken 3 Dysons in his life (no other vacuum cleaner) and swears by a Henry. I stick by Dad's boycott too, so one won't find its way into our house. We have a Henry for heavy duty work like plaster dust and brick dust. We also have a lightweight everyday machine from Lakeland that converts into a hand vacuum.

We had one Dyson, never again. It had small-bore rigid curved section where bits of fluff got stuck with monotonous regularity, meaning that it was useless and a total pain in the neck. The fact that they put something so appallingly badly designed on the market mean that I have no faith in their power to do any better and I will never buy another. Thank goodness for Henry.

Now we have a Bosch and it's fab. Much sturdier.

I've had the same one for about 12 years, no lasting problems. (one of the old DC05's).

However a bit like the philosopher's axe it has had some crucial new parts including the entire "wand" and it does definitely benefit from a new filter every year or so, and regular washing of the foam bit.

If you hate your Dyson you should say which model otherwise you might as well say "all Fords are crap". (which is of course another discussion! Grin)

Mine's only a few months old and I don't like it...... It feels sooo plasticky. I got "persuaded" into by dh Hmm.

I've got my old Miele still so I use that when dh isn't looking, otherwise I let him do all the hoovering Grin.

I will not be telling him how nice Dyson customer service is if he's having a problem with it though!

The vacuum cleaner of choice lined up at the council tip is the Dyson. Rows of them, like redundant daleks. Enough to convince me to never ever buy one.

I am waiting for my new dyson to arrive. Sad I have been waiting in all day. Citi-link ( who Dyson currently use) only dive a time of 07.00-17.30.

Dyson Customer service is utterly SHITE. I told them this too. I wrote it on facebook aswell. Although not those exact words.

We had a dyson for years. The it died. Dyson had a GREAT deal. So we bought from them direct.

After 3 months, my DC40 stopped working. I phoned. I went throught he checks. He asked me to do more. I phoned back. And again. In the end, I had to demand, that an enginner was sent. £72 it could cost, the man said. Fine, I said. Send him, I don't care. But he couldn't come for 1.5 weeks. So I have now been without a dyson for nearly 3 weeks.

He comes. Yes, all the checks I did were correct. It is gettign hot. Its not sucking. No obstruction. He knows not why. he phones his manager. Agrees to a new one being sent.

2 days later. I phone. Nothing has been authorised. But he spoke to his manager. It was authorised, I say. They will look into it. If I hadn't of chased then, then I would be no furhter forward, becasue they had not actioned anyhting.

I phone again. 8 more phonecalls.

Your DC33 will be with you tomorrow. Why a DC33 I said. I have a DC40. Apparently they noted down that I had agreed to this. Agreed to a different model. Then they admitted that this conversation had never been had. They hadn't phoned me, so obviously I hadn't agreed to anyhting!!

Finally, they FINALLY admit, after another few phonecalls, that they don't have any DC40's. But they had failed to tell me this, in the inumerable phonecalls thta we had had before. And none are available for another 5 weeks.

So they finally agree to send me a limted edition DC40i. It is red, whereas my old one was a DC40 purple. And I don't like red. But in the circumsances i feel I have no choice.

But they don't. They sent a DC41. Instead. The wrong model. Its heavier than a DC40. And I am only tiny.

So I phone them back. And the woman insists on giving me a refund.
I don't want a refund. I want a like-for-like replacement, after my DC40 broke after less than 3 months. Yeah , i bet she does. The reason is, that they now want to get rid of me. Becasue they have no DC40's and the price my dh paid, when they had the special offer, is only 2/3 of the current price of £400.

Plus none of the places thta she recommneded - John Lewis, Curry's , Argos, even have one.

PLUS, I bought form Dyson direct. So I expected better customer services.

I will wait I say, for the DC40's that are availabel at the end of May. And in the meantime you can send me any model you like, for me to use whilst I am waiting. Please note I have already been without a dyson, so no 'hoovering' has been done for nearly 5 weeks, and you are asking me to wait another month?
No she said. We don't do that. We don't do 'loans'.

IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE.
They are shockingly awful.
I am still waiting for my delivery.
I will let you know if they actually deliver my DC40i.

By the way, incase it wasn't clear, I AM NOT HAPPY Wink

I've had a Dyson for 8 years and love it so much I've just bought the mini version. I think my main love for it may be that dh happily uses it! :)

Mine broke at a year old but it was fixed in 2 days so maybe customer service has gone down hill

Dyson are rubbish. Utterly rubbish. I spent an obscene amount of money on one last year - I thought it would be an investment ie I wouldnt have to buy another vaccum for years. Hollow laugh. From the day I bought it, it has never worked. And suction, what suction? I used to spend hours pushing the same bit of dust around.

I've spent hours on the phone to their customer service who make me rebuilt the thing while I'm on the phone. Despite me telling them I have already done all the checks.

All anyone ever says is 'clean the filters' this will solve most problems. I have cleaned every solid inch of my Dyson and it makes no difference, cleaning the filters does not miraculously make the suction work.

In the past year I've had the Dyson engineer out EIGHT times. Yes, that's right eight times. Trying to juggle this around work is not easy believe me. And they send the same engineer every time who just rebuilds part of the Dyson. So I've had new wands, new motors, new filters, new heads, you name it I've had it replaced.

And still it doesnt work.

I have begged Dyson to either refund or replace. All they say is that as it is under guarantee for 5 years they will just keep coming out to repair it. They will NOT under any circumtances replace the piece of crap.

I will never buy Dyson again. Unfortunately I cant yet afford to replace the damn thing.

I love my dyson. It has been mine for over five years. Prior to that it lived with my old flatmate and me for three years. Previous to that it did about five years in my old flatmate's boyfriend's house (to be fair it probably wasn't used much then) and then even before that it belonged to old flatmate's boyfriend's parents.

It has never broken, is slightly glittery and AMAZES me with the amount of crap it picks up.
