May I have a small rant please?

The only relative on my husband's side of the family that COULD make my son's FIRST bday party is not coming. This is my husband's sister, and only sibling. She has just told me she has decided to go away with her husband in the UK for the long weekend instead. She sends her apologies about the party. They go away about six times a year; no children by choice. We asked them to be God parents when my son was born but nothing is official. Now I am reconsidering that proposition! Fuming mad I am! Angry

oh you have had a change of heart must read whole threads Blush I have had to accept that Bil and SIL dont give a flying fig about our children and ignored dds birthdays for years , but we had to make a fuss of their children [conufsed]

so I decided not to include them anymore they havnt contacted us in 5 years the last time was to moan about a present that hadn't arrived for 1 of their children , it was in an outbuilding the postman put it there, what I think I am waffiling on about is if aunts and uncles want to be involved thats fab if not just let it go ,

He is only 1, he won't even notice.

Urgggh this reminds me of when it was DH's best friends sons 1st bday.
They organised a massive party and we said we would go.

They live in slough and we live in south east London... Takes an hour (sometimes longer) to get to them.

DH finished work at 6, came home and we left the house at 7... I was already stressing that we wouldn't even get to them by gone 8pm and it was all a bit ridiculous.

We then got stuck in traffic for AGES and ended up doing a U turn and going home. We called (no answer) so had to text to explain.... He was in a mood with us for weeks because we didn't turn up.

Seriously... People need to get a grip!

YWBVU, especially considering it is a bank holiday w/e, but I take it you have reconsidered.

gillywillywoo · 02/05/2013 12:49

Good to see you know you're overreacting!

Just wondering OP, do you like the aunty?
Only ask because my sister would accept it if I couldn't make her sons birthday party (he's nearly 2) ...

But if her husbands sister couldn't make it she would go nuts!

But that's because she doesn't like her very much and finds any excuse to lay into her!

I think Mumsnet should introduce a function which allows the OP to add an addition to their original post highlighting a change of heart, whatever for any Johnnie Come Latelies to the thread.

That way the OP won't have to face pages and pages of being told how wrong/unreasonable they are even after a total climb down, and the other posters won't be exercising their little fingers preaching to the converted. Grin

I am terrible for it then I realise then I apologise then I say Oh i must read the whole thing then I am fine for a while then I do it again Blush

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 02/05/2013 12:57

Op enjoy the party. You know, now, you over-reacting a bit, but speaking as someone who made a massive fuss about their first child's first birthday, I understand. Smile

FryOneFatManic · 02/05/2013 13:07

The only reason we had 1st birthday parties for our 2 DC was for an excuse to host a family party. No kids outside family, just an informal get together for snacks drinks and chat. Worked well.

boomting · 02/05/2013 13:27

This does seem awfully PFB to me

fedupwithdeployment · 02/05/2013 13:35

Glad you got a grip.

Me? I am a terrible mother...DS2 (whose birthday is just before Xmas (terrible timing on my part)) didn't have a 1st birthday party. We do have a photo of him in a French motorway station looking pretty happy...he spent the other 12 hours of his important day being driven on French motorways.
