To wonder when hairdressers will realise... (Trivial)

That no-one wants a head massage when their necks are going to break on those awful hair washy sinks?

Seems to be a lot of hairdresser threads going on at the moment but I'm still bruised after getting my hair done on Wed and I'm just wondering if anyone actually finds them relaxing or are you all just as desperate as me to get the hair washing bit over with!

Clearly not the end of the world but they didn't even ask this time so I could opt out. So, AIBU to ask for hairdressers to go back to just a quick wash and a chat about your holidays?

I don't want hairdressers to talk to me. I go to a salon for peace and quiet - not inane chat about holidays

I get my hair cut a lot, and I don't like reaching my skull back 130 degrees for this so called pleasure they call a hair wash.

I don't think head massages are welcome in an experience like a haircut. You go there to look better. Not therapy. You make what you want out of the experience, whether it cheers you up or bores the shit out of you, but it shouldn't be pushed on you.

Are you kidding? I LOVE that head massage at the hairdresser's! The only down side is that it only lasts a couple of minutes and I feel like telling them "please don't stop"'every time!

I like having my hair washed at the hair dressers. It doesn't seem uncomfortable.

I normally enjoy it but today as Im suffering from labyrthinitis and vertigo it was making me feel really weird after a bit! And I love the inane chit chat about holidays so I could boast about my upcoming California road trip

YANBU. I usually explain that I don't find it comfortable to lean back on the sinks for long (old injury from car accident) and I sit up while the conditioner works, with the bonus that I get to skip the head massage. No one's ever seemed to mind, in fact it must give their hands a break, surely?

YABU, I love the hair washing part! I love the water, smell of the product, massage. I don't love the feeling of the sink but the rest more than makes up for it. Ooooh and I like how I always think that the water has definately trickled down my neck to my clothes but it never does. Going to book an appointment...thanks for the reminder! Grin

I don't like it either, but have never felt bruised afterwards. I like the chatter though (but then again I'm one of those seemingly rare peope who are happy to chat with cashiers in supermarkets).

I'm a shortarse & have always found it uncomfortable.

Plus hated having hair washed.

Oh the joy when hairdresser came here & I had a plant spray wet trim!

I don't mind it. But the basins break my neck. Plus I can never hear when they're withering because of all the noisy hair dryers!!!

In fact if I remember I wash my own hair before going so that I can just get it damped and cut out the washing stage altogether.

I have to take strong painkillers with codeine before I go to the hairdressers, purely for the agony that is the bloody sink. I have the beginnings of arthritis in my neck and I'm seriously thinking I should just turn up there with wet hair so I can skip the washing bit.

It can be excruciatingly painful for me but in recent years I have noticed many places now have ergonomic sinks which are much better - it's all in the design. If the sink doesn't hurt me, I enjoy the head massage.
13 years ago a hairdresser told me her special sinks were her salon's USP alongside the competition.

The sinks in my salon are fairly comfortable, I just don't like being touched by random strangers that much, never have beauty treatments for the same reason.

I have real 'issues' with being massaged anyway but I told them not to do it so they don't - I am short and find the basins uncomfy - although my new salon has lovely relaxing chairs where you can lie back so that's nicer

I don't mind chatting either - inane but it passes the time

I hate being faffed with though - I hate 'product' (sensitive scalp) and I wish they could wash and cut it without drying and straightening it - but mine needs to be dry and straight to cut apparently (sharp bob) - first thing I do when I get home ...wash it Grin

My hairdressers have moved on to head massage with some kind of aromatherapy hair oil before washing. Much better experience.

As an ex stylist, can I ask you guys to be more honest!
The last thing I would have wanted was uncomfortable clients. If you don't want to chat, just say. Can you imagine what it is like having the same conversations all day long anyway Grin

If you hate the massage, say! I hate them too and tell my hairwasher not to bother.
