AIBU?

To wonder when hairdressers will realise... (Trivial)

That no-one wants a head massage when their necks are going to break on those awful hair washy sinks?

Seems to be a lot of hairdresser threads going on at the moment but I'm still bruised after getting my hair done on Wed and I'm just wondering if anyone actually finds them relaxing or are you all just as desperate as me to get the hair washing bit over with!

Clearly not the end of the world but they didn't even ask this time so I could opt out. So, AIBU to ask for hairdressers to go back to just a quick wash and a chat about your holidays?

I quite like the head massage.

Sometimes would rather not talk during the cut though as I lack for opportunities for silence!

I do know one person who had a mini stroke (i knew the person so not made up and of course it may not be linked) following her head being put into one of torture devices sink. You just need to ask them to lower or higher the seat and get the postion comfortable. The hairdresser doesnt know unless you say. I have turned up with wet hair through in the summer...

I like the massage but the sinks are terrible. One salon I went to, I almost passed out because the sink was so painful, I had to blink a few times when i sat up. Definitely should have said something but at the time it seemed as though they were almost done washing my hair so I kept thinking it'd only be another minute or two.

Blimey, there are a lot of martyrs here. Why on earth don't you just tell them not to do a head massage rather than suffer in silence?
If the sink is uncomfortable ask for another towel and roll it round your neck or lower the sink/raise the chair.
I love a good head massage but my hairdressers just does a thorough hair wash.

I go every six weeks and love it! But then I know my hairdresser quite well and we have a good old gossip. I adore the head massage as they do great ones.
I'm in there for two hours do I make the most of it. Decent coffee and wine too from the independent wine merchants next door.

Those sinks are not made with short people in mind!

Oh i LOVE it. I would pay more for them to do it for longer, its so nice and relaxing. I amazed people don't like it!

I just love my head massaged. I'm off for a facial later, and she gives a great 15 minute scalp massage while the face mask is on. Bliss.
I will dribbleGrin

It can kill you as well. Leaning your neck back at the wrong angle, and especially then having your head wobbled about, can cause vertebral artery dissection...

The hairdressing chain that I go to ask if you want a massage and check if it's the right pressure. Just ask them not to.

As a man its intrigued me why women don't just wash their own hair. I decide to have a haircut, wash my hair in the shower, go to town, pick whichever barbers the quietest and fifteen minutes later I'm in the pub.

I get asked wether I want one, I think the girl last week was fairly new, she took nearly 15 mins, 2 shampoos & conditioner, I was worried she might get told off.

BUT I worked as a shampooist 20 years ago & my lovely boss would say ' take your time ' when he wanted to have a quick sandwich fag & tea Wink

Oh God, I hate it. I only have my hair washed when it's being coloured- if I go for a trim I make them do it dry. I don't know if it's worse because I'm so short but the sinks are so uncomfortable, I always get water down my neck and the head 'massage' - it feels like they're ripping your hair out! Plus they always have horrible long plastic nails that dig in your scalp. Horrid.

I love the head massage. It's so relaxing, I just wish they would do it for an extra ten minutes or half an hour.

Absolutely hate it. I always ask them not to do it and be as quick as possible. They always look at me Hmm In fact, I hate the whole experience at the hairdressers.

I love the head massage, but I hate the small talk.

I hate it- like a form of torture. It's also quite dangerous- older women who might have osteoporosis can have vertebral fractures in the upper spine from all the tugging etc or a stroke if they have furred up arteries in the neck and a clot breaks off.

My latest hairdresser also sometimes activates a massage chair which is like being on the 'Rack'- it feels like a million rolling pins being rubbed up and down your back, catching on your bones. Having that going on at the same time as a hair wash with your head pulled back is just hell.

Before I sit down I say nicely - um- I really don't like the head massage so if you don't mind, I'll give it a miss. Also the massage thing on the chair. I don't like that either:)

My hairdresser chats. I like it, he is very young and uber cool, so for an hour I listen to him chatter on about his life. I don't say much, I like watching him work his magic on my hair.

Katedotness1983 the sinks aren't made for tall people either!
I have to sit right at the edge of the seat and lean back into it.

However I love my hair being touched and the massage feels lovely. It's all I can do to stop myself moaning and I worry if I close my eyes she'll think I'm turned on I'm not, just incredibly relaxed

Like other PPs I can't stand the chat. I always answer politely and smile so it doesn't look like I'm being rude but I just want her to cut my hair. I don't want to say 'please don't talk to me' as it sounds so rude!

Maybe OP has learned to like having it done now, given she wrote this thread almost 3 years ago?

For what it's worth, I also hate having my hair washed at the hairdressers, I find it very uncomfortable.

"If you don't want to chat, just say. "

How can you do that politely? I just chat very little myself and, if they're sensitive, they get the message.
Agree that those sinks are uncomfortable, but I suppose it depends on your body shape in which bone is actually on the sink. Was massaged once by a woman with long nails and that was painful.

lavendarhoney I wouldn't mind someone chatting at me. It's just people I don't know asking constant questions about my life. It's awful.
