I'm so fucking cross I could scream
DDs brand new Isla bike which she's waited ages for us to find the money to buy has just been stolen.
Locked up outside the library.
5pm.
DP was there at 4.55 getting on his bike to go home.
When DD and I got there at 5.05, it was gone.
Some fucking low life thieving bastard now has it.
I fucking hate thieves. Really would like to fucking pummel the bastard's face in. He's probably really pleased with his day's work.
And my daughter is distraught.
Fucking animal.
AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH

sorry, need to let it out

Please post size/colour: I don't want to accidentally buy yours, as am actively looking for an islabike.

Also CTC forum has a "stolen" page which might be useful

Sad Poor dd. Have you tried local car boot sales? My neighbour had his stolen off the top of his car and managed to find it in the back of someone's van at a car boot sale. Someone stole mine from my back garden. It wasn't new and had 2 flat tyres. Confused They also stole ds's very rusty scooter! Confused Confused

You could start a thread on local asking people to keep an eye out for it. I'm so sorry it was taken.

Some people on here should be ashamed! You don't blame victims, you blame the people that committed the crime! Angry

What was the description of it (colour, model etc)? Perhaps we can all keep a look out on places like Gumtree and ebay as those are they places they are likely to be selling it.

Yes it's awful but tbh I am shocked that anyone would spend that on a kids bike (unless they can afford to replace...) and then leave it somewhere. Yes they are horrible to steal it but the lure of a new expensive bike with a good lock probably too tempting...

I did spend that on mine but I don't leave it anywhere (have kryptonite lock but still...)

Thanks everyone (well nearly!!!)
The bike was a blue BEINN 26 small.
It's this bike in blue
Yes, I agree £400 is a lot.
It was a big decision and I feel sick about the whole thing.
We love cycling and you get what you pay for - it's a great bike which would have lasted DD for a good few years and then been passed to DS who is 4 years younger.
I have started a thread on local.
As for the criticism, well it doesn't help, does it?
probably will do for a long time to come.
It's not a nice feeling at all.
In fact I have what looks like eczema all over my legs today. I never get eczema.
Shame some people feel the need to attack.

I feel your pain. My two DSs have had little luck with bikes. One was stolen from a city centre bike rack, under CCTV - it had a big/expensive lock. One was stolen which was locked to a tree in our front garden. (we found that one outside the local newsagent so guess a paperboy had taken it. My DH claimed it back. One was stolen from the hall of a student house when the door was left open and one was stolen last week from the back yard of a student house in Leeds. It was locked to another bike with a kyrptonite lock. My DH said that people drive round with vans looking for them and my DS was daft not to lock it up to something solid. It wasn't insured - the excess was too high. Now DS has a huge walk in to Uni. Thanks for the tip about looking on Gumtree etc. Have just texted him to check full details of bike and will have a look - or at the very least pick up another bike. Can't afford another new one.

does the lock manfr offer any sort of guarantee?

Use Google to search the net as much as possible. Use the ' last 24hrs ' function , and UK only .
Put up reward posters offering say £100 ? for safe return to you.
You are lucky it probably wont get broken down for spares . The breaks and the gears are practically untracable and expensive bikes that are locked up often get the frames sawn through , just so some wanker can sell a few bits to buy soem drugs...
An Isla is great bike , but wont be laden with high end goodies , so will be sold at a car boot or Fleabay/ Gumtree .
Set up email alert on Ebay for Isla and see what appears,, maybe even 'kids bike' or both
hope you get it back

To the "if you spend that on a kid's bike you deserve to have it nicked" brigade, are you the same people who say women in short skirts deserve to be raped?

I had two bikes stolen when we lived in WB. They never turned up. The police suggested I toured the Meadows at dusk looking for it when the first one went. I didn't because it wasn't that valuable and I wouldn't have known how to try to get it back if I saw it! I gave up cycling when the second one went Sad

i think linking bike theft to sexual assault is doing the latter a huge disservice

Report
Rowlers · 28/04/2013 19:19

Dp started to have a wander round the meadows - we thought that a possibility. But he got spooked and came home. It has such a poor reputation.

Sad I really do hope you find it. I live towards the boarder of Derbyshire but travel into Nottingham every day. I'll keep a look out for it, you never know. I hope DD is OK. Sad

Its not linking bike theft to rape, its linking the victim blaming. The concept is the same ...op bought an expensive bike so its her own fault it got stolen...someone wears a short skirt and gets raped..its their own fault. Both are victim blaming.

I'm not linking bike theft to sexual assault.

I'm saying that victim blaming of any kind is wrong

try putting an alert out for it being offered for sale on www.singletrackworld.co.uk too. It is the home of mountain bike and cyclocross geeks (who? us?) and full of the type of people who'd be interested in an Islabike. Lots of them in an around the Peaks too. Maybe worth going to hang out at Sherwood Pines next weekend?

Report
BikeRunSki · 28/04/2013 19:46

What model and colour was it OP? Size? I am not a million miles away from you and inhabit a world of bike geeks and their children. We have 2 Islabikes, they are beautiful bikes.

It's not blaming the victim. It's suggesting that not to insure a bike so you can actually claim on it was a gamble.
