I'm so fucking cross I could scream
DDs brand new Isla bike which she's waited ages for us to find the money to buy has just been stolen.
Locked up outside the library.
5pm.
DP was there at 4.55 getting on his bike to go home.
When DD and I got there at 5.05, it was gone.
Some fucking low life thieving bastard now has it.
I fucking hate thieves. Really would like to fucking pummel the bastard's face in. He's probably really pleased with his day's work.
And my daughter is distraught.
Fucking animal.
AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH

sorry, need to let it out

The bike is so beautiful. DD was so thrilled.
I feel dreadful.
Am trying desperately to think of other thigns to try to get it back.
Thing is, it could now be anywhere.

Sorry to hear that OP, shocking that folk can just not give a fuck. Happened to us with my 3 yr olds brand new bike. Someone lifted it from the park when our backs were turned. Hope they were happy leaving a three yr old running about looking for his new bike with his helmet on and having to walk home without it.

EmpressOfThe7OceansLovesMN · 28/04/2013 09:23

Could you pm me a link to the tweet so I can retweet it too, punkatheart?

bestegg · 28/04/2013 09:39

It is worth checking on gum tree and ebay for the bike, gum tree especially. When my husband has been looking on gum tree for bikes, the number that are clearly stolen is incredible.

Rowlers · 28/04/2013 12:31

I've put an email alert on gumtree and will keep checking ebay but I suspect if it does appear there, it won't be for a while?
DOP has asked the restaurants opposite if we can check their CCTV. They were all really helpful so he'll go and look tomorrow.
There was no CCTV directly where the bike was, just close by but you never know ...

SavoyCabbage · 28/04/2013 12:44

I hope you get it back. What a horrible thing to happen.

freddiefrog · 28/04/2013 12:52

I hope you get it back!

Definately keep your eye on eBay/FB selling pages etc.

DD2'd bike was stolen from our front garden, she'd only left it there for 2 minutes when she came in for the loo. It was marked, and it also had some yellow and black striped tape around one of the handle bars

Low and behold, a few days later it appeared on the local FB selling pages

Rowlers · 28/04/2013 13:36

Can anyone point me in the direction of fb local selling pages? Did you get the bike back freddie?

a bike that cost FOUR HUNDRED POUNDS? for a kid?!

LaGuardia · 28/04/2013 13:58

Who buys a growing child a bike costing £350? I got my DDs bike from the tip for free. And it looks like new. And she is delighted with it.

LadyMountbatten · 28/04/2013 14:00

I agree.
think you were a little foolish to give a bike like that to a kid when everyone knows bikes are stolen a lot

sassytheFIRST · 28/04/2013 14:02

Big shame for you.

But lady m has a point - no way is it sensible to spend that kind of ££ on a kids bike ESP if your insurance is not up to the job either.

LadyFlumpalot · 28/04/2013 14:07

Post a picture and details of where it was stolen from and the time on Facebook. Ask for people to share it. It's been successful before.

Longdistance · 28/04/2013 14:08

Check ebay. It'll be there.

My friends bikes were stolen at train stations, they're both friends, and both got stolen on the same day. They had them locked up too.

The station said their CCTV doesn't cover that area :(

I told them to check eBay too.

NorbertDentressangle · 28/04/2013 14:10

Some friends of ours had bikes stolen and, sure enough, they turned up on ebay.

Police followed it up too as it was part of a spate of thefts of specialist bikes in the area.

5madthings · 28/04/2013 14:11

Nothing wrong with getting a good bike esp when it can be handed down to siblings or sold, isla bikes keeo their value and are dam good bikes.

The madthings have expensive bikes, we ride a lot and a decent childs bike that is lightweight with aporopriate sized brakes and component parts makes a massive difference.

Worth paying for good insurance tho, ours are covered away from the house and our excess is much lower. But it was a brand new bike and maybe op hadnt got around to updating the policy? Our bikes are all covered individuallu and we had to give specific details of each bike to the insurers.

PatPig · 28/04/2013 14:11

Why would you buy a child a shit bike? Maybe if you don't actuall want them to cycle anywhere.

Obesity FTW

LadyMountbatten · 28/04/2013 14:12

I would say you dont need to spend $400 to get a bike that is good

EmpressOfThe7OceansLovesMN · 28/04/2013 14:13

Is all that really relevant right now though? I think Rowlers is probably upset enough without having to defend her choice of bike.
The only person really at fault here is the bastard who stole the bike.

serin · 28/04/2013 14:14

Rowlers, How old is she?

I have a bike here, it's only Halfords but it would tide her over until you get a proper replacement?

there is a website that sells off bikes recovered by the Police, last time I checked it there were several 'Giant' bikes on it that were recovered by the Police but they couldnt trace the owners.

Good luck.

StuffezLaYoni · 28/04/2013 14:14

How horrible to berate the OP for buying her daughter that bike. It's precisely none of your business how much she spent on it and you have no clue how long she might have saved up to buy it. The only person who has acted badly here is the thieving bastard who's stolen a kid's bike.
Some bloody nasty people on mumsnet sometimes.

LadyMountbatten · 28/04/2013 14:15

she didnt weigh up the risks when she bought it.
thats all.
