AIBU?

AIBU what's with the whole 'nethuns' nonsense?

I'm quite happily a member of both forums, I get lots out of both, but it does REALLY rip my knitting when a few on MN call it net'huns'.

Dare I say I actually find it quite an offensive term, being from Glasgow the word 'hun' has very particular connotations in a sectarian form.

I know there is a fairly large cross over of users, so why with the hate people?

That's a nasty cough you have there, OliviaMumsnet - you should take something for it. Grin

Grin I always think of Nan Taylor as from my side of the river, she could be from your side though I spose.

In the coffee house. Try a Thatcher fred. Usually does the trick. Or racism. That gets the apologists out in droves Wink

Britta, go to 'coffeehouse' then 'general coffeehouse chat' then 'news, current affairs and topical discussion' category.

That's where I found the best worst topics.

Did anybody read the Whizzer and Chips comic when they were young? Whizz-kids hated the Chip-ites, or pretended to, and vice versa. All the nethun slagging reminds me of that.

Hey crazynanna/comrade Wink

We all miss you lots and lots. Said dicks are still being dicks.

Like I said, there are some great people over there, but our little group is dwindling to be honest. I don't post there anywhere near as much as I used to.

I 'like' the way that on an AIBU type topic, if you say yes, you AIBU, you get deleted or shouted down or told you're being mean (and then probably banned - I didn't stick around long enough)

I've never been banned...I'm too nice

Report
mistlethrush · 23/04/2013 08:59

I think I avoided it - but I'm not sure as I didn't go back after being shouted down for daring to have an opinion of my own (based on sound evidence) and I've forgotten all my log-in details etc... And I don't like being called hun by people I don't know. I'm not actually keen on being called hun by people I do know come to think of it.

I would like to see a whippet going up a drainpipe. I would also like to see old men in flat caps walking their ferrets down the road too... Grin

I've been thinking if I ever decide to leave I might get myself banned by being evil and completely out of character. Most of the people I chat to on there I'm friends with elsewhere on-line now anyway. There are certain bell-ends it's getting harder to ignore.

For years, I had the two sites confused. I don't know when I realised there are two separate sites, to be honest. I had heard about the "huns" and something about Gordon Brown's biscuits, and assumed it was all one incredibly stupid site full of people complaining about one-armed CBeeBees presenters in txt speak.

I have little interest in parenting forums, anyway.

I found this place when I Googled for discussions about cleaners and realised that this site is not what I thought.

I still haven't bothered with the other place because it does sound like the sort of thing that bores me silly.

I suppose there is a snobbery thing to it. I am obviously working class, but I prefer to talk to educated, well-travelled people who can comment clearly about topics I am interested in.

Also, I like that one can say "cunt" here. That makes me feel so happy.

I'm from Glasgow and still sometimes do a double take when I see nethuns written down.

I'm not a 5 year old child therefore i can't stand the other side - it is pink and glittery and bright like a nursery :( plus i found it hard to navigate they have really bad page presentation .. bleuch.

I also despise being called hun it's revolting and somehow makes me feel cheap and a bit dirty it's just eeew for me.

Over there they all seem to appear saccarine sweet but can be really bitchy whereas here the cunts are cunts - there is no facade Grin

I lived in ScWink and can see why huns is off putting, but I assume it's to do with the barbarian hordes who sacked Rome.
