AIBU what's with the whole 'nethuns' nonsense?

I'm quite happily a member of both forums, I get lots out of both, but it does REALLY rip my knitting when a few on MN call it net'huns'.

Dare I say I actually find it quite an offensive term, being from Glasgow the word 'hun' has very particular connotations in a sectarian form.

I know there is a fairly large cross over of users, so why with the hate people?

i'm also from glasgow & never thought of "our" meaning of hun when i read "nethuns".

but then, i never found our interpretation of "hun" particularly offensive anyway.

I agree with the fact that, it's an endearment from someone who doesn't know me personally. I find it false and a tad creepy tbh.

Like we're "BFF" (bleurgh) when in fact, I probably think them a bit of a twat for solely using it.

Because despite the fact that most mumsnetters like to flash their socialist credentials if they are presented with an actual chav their inner snob comes out like a whippet up a drainpipe. A lot of people on here like to preach equality as long as it doesn't involve interacting the poor or chavs.

I suppose it depends what part of Glasgow your from but that term was a very common term used around my way (and many parts of the east end).

I accept it's my personal issue.

I got called a Hun once in Glasgow. I politely informed them that if they were set on using sectarian abuse that they'd be more accurate if they called me a Tim.

People here like to think, for some reason, they are of a better calibre compared to the users of netmums. Quite sad really.

And given the mass of duplication of threads between here and there, I'd guess more people than cared to admit it are users of both!

I use both too and the use of hun on here always makes me bristle a bit too. I'm from NI and I find it jarring. You know you can hide the tickers and stuff on Netmum - I did the minute I joined. But I guess it's more fun to take the piss.

I started off over there. I got a warning for linking to a support group (which is what the OP actually asked for help with) and was told if I did it again I'd be banned Hmm

Bridget perhaps you are not working class enough to know that the word Chav is pretty offensive.

Plenty of people from all walks of life on mumsnet, yes there are vile snobs as well but they are called on it if they are being spiteful (like you using the word Chav)

Netmums isn't for me, I think they have a lot of younger mums on it, and it makes me feel really old.
I don't use hun, but i have a lovely niece that does, I see her posts all over facebook, hunning away with her mates.
She's a sweetheart though, 21 and a fab mum of two.
It doesn't really bother me.
The sectarian angle has never occurred to me and I'm Scottish.

I don't have a problem with the people on Netmums. My problem is that's it's so bright and sparkly and it hurts my eyes

YABU.

It's far too pink and fluffy over there. The tickers get on my nerves. And I posted once after exP had grabbed me by the throat, to which the response was, "Aww he was probably really stressed, give him another chance". Yeah... That was enough to put me off for life.

Has no one linked to the ''tickers'' thread in Classics yet?
