Secondary school uniform & micro mini skirts - AIBU?

Walking past our local secondary school at home time this afternoon and I was literally gobsmacked at the length of the skin tight micro mini skirts, they came up to the line of their bums & you could literally see one girls crotch, luckily she had tights on.

AIBU to think the teachers should send them home to put a more appropriate skirt on?! I'm starting to feel like an old codger but DD will be starting there soon and I'm just hoping there isn't pressure to be overtly sexual from such a young age, it's makes me kinda sad.

Just to point out there is absolutely no correlation between clothing and sexual assault

Skirt length - meh

Chandellina.

Of course they can be cast in such a light but its the person who does that, that sexualises them not the child.

And perhaps I'm weird but no child at all does look sexy and if a adult believes they do then the fault very much lays with that adult and that is what should be challenged not the way the child is dressed.

YABU. I used to roll mine up when I was at school in the 80's. And I was neither a slut nor a prostitute, so DFO with those nasty comments.

I'd also like to state that skirt length has no bearing on likelihood of sexual assault, or a girl's propensity to shag around. Hmm

Sockreturning, maybe it's a debate for another day, but I think that for better and worse sexuality develops over time. Girls wearing short skirts may well feel sexy and interested in being seen as such. Or just fitting in. I expect the motivation covers a range.

I clearly remember being all of 9 years old and having a "sexy" shirt (not revealing in any way) that made me feel very alluring for the 9 year old lads I vaguely fancied.

It's what young girls do. My mum did. I did. Dds will. Ill hate it. But I do accept they will.

Bet my nan did too!

My 15 year old wears a short skirt to school but it is longer than mine was. She is doing ok in every other area and is not overtly sexualised.

IneedAsockamnesty · 25/05/2013 09:57

Perhaps I'm just old, but they don't look like adults to me I even mistake 17/18 year olds for 15 year olds. But it gets a bit like that when some of your kids are adults you don't get fooled so much by younger kids trying to look older.

They may well do but they still don't look like proper grown ups.

My dd quite likes that Tom what's his face the swimmer she pointed him out on the telly I guessed him as about 15 Grin
