To think those who have had Botox/fillers look fake?

I really think it makes people look homogenous, plastic and slightly weird.

Yes, YABU. I honestly don't look fake

Yes. I saw Richard Gere in 'Arbitrage' yesterday and he was brilliant in it, really good story - great acting.

But the first few minutes I felt sorry for him as he has fillers in the top of his cheeks and I thought they looked obvious/stretched.

Every other part of his face was wrinkled and had character.

And I reiterate again that he was fantastic in the film and I just doubt that he needs it.

Ah but if they were good botox/fillers you wouldn't know would you? So you can only judge on the crappy ones.

You would be surprised at how many people you have met that have it done that you don't know about.
It can look fake & plastic if it's OTT.
And a face can still tell a story, but with a botox maybe the story isn't "I haven't slept in ten daysand I'm really cross" which is what I look like without my botox. With it, I look normal and not scary.

YABU. Botox and fillers don't always look fake. Yes some people like the fake look and if that's the look they're going for all power to them but chances are there are plenty of people around who've had botox and fillers who, in most peoples eyes, look really good, fresh faced etc. Its not always that blatently obvious.

YANBU. Personally I think it's really noticeable - whether it's subtle or plastic less subtle

Yanbu. Looks awful especially on actors. Just do what I do and grow a bloody fringe, hides a multitude of sins. Alternatively out on a bit of weight, my rem slightly chubby dad is 67 and does'nt have a single wrinkle.

It's the shiny forehead that gives it away, if not the plumped up cheekbones or bloated lips. Don't get me started on the lack of facial expression.

Lots of famous people have it done and look awful (as posted up thread as an example: kylie). Yet they have the money to employ the best surgeons. Eventually, fresh faced always seems to become plastic (not so) fantastic.

I just don't understand it, really. What has happened to society to make people think this looks better than a naturally aged complexion?

It nearly always looks wrong.

Faces that are supposed to have lines, always look better with them.

I know women on here love to convince themselves they have "just had a bit, you'd never know...I look rested"

My MIL has unusual things done to her face every couple of months, she regularly travels 150 miles to see her dermatologist for some suspicious procedure. I like her very much. I wish she'd stop messing.

YABU I have Botox in my forehead and it doesn't look homogenous, plastic or slightly weird. Just erases the enormous trough I have running across my forehead otherwise. No one has ever passed comment either positive or negative tbh. I do agree that fillers are a WHOLE different story though

There is a mother at my nursery who I always felt a bit sorry for as her face was sort of strange and I wondered whether she had had a stroke or had burns or something. Turns out she has a face full of botox. It had just never crossed my mind. Admittedly I don't live somewhere posh so it's not an everyday occurance.

A lot of people, including me, think that a natural possibly wrinkled look is far better than a weird puffed-up immobile face. I also feel sad when I see young women with very odd, sore-looking plumped up lips. I don't think "society" values the fake look just because a few insecure slebs can't resist it though.

I take the point that some people will have had these things done and look great, but clearly you don't have any way of knowing which result you will get. Why risk it?

There is a huge difference between obvious plumped up lips and cheek fillers and just a tiny touch of Botox to erase forehead lines.

You can have too much done and then it looks fake because you can tell! But in moderation people will just say 'you look well' but they won't know.

Oh no, I'm having Botox and fillets next week. I'm under no illusion that I'm probably the only person that will notice. I can't afford to go crazy so I don't suppose I ll look frozen. I'm having my elevenses done, I ve got a fringe so I'm not too bothered about my forehead. I've got really deep nose to mouth lines and I'm having fillets there. I suspect I will look vaguely but not unnaturally different. I know lots of people who have it done and if they hadn't told me I wouldn't have known. Not everyone goes over the top.

But...there are almost no women/men over say 35, who are line-less ...so if they have been a little bit helped it will. look. odd!

YANBU Ever since Angelina Jolie came on the scene, many actresses seem to get plumper lips and they look like ducks!

Feminine, I ll still have my wrinkly eyes and turkey neck so I'm not going to look twenty again :)

But whether you do it for a more subtle or obvious effect, what's the point? We are simply human beings growing older every day. Are we all destined to look like plastic dollies with shiny, taut skin and rubbery lips? How very sad and to my mind, unnatural and feeding on insecurities which have been drip fed to us by the media.

And it may well start off as being a subtle look but once you start having these procedures it generally escalates. The more you have done, the worse it looks...so you get more done. And do the wheel keeps turning.

Eat well, drink plenty of water, laugh whether possible and enjoy what you have rather than subscribe to what you're being told is the ideal by some media machine.
