To not want this child to come on holidays with us

A group of girls I used to share a house with years ago have arranged to go on a reunion weekend to the West of Ireland in June. The plan was to book into a nice hotel, and spend the time relaxing, having nice meals and a few drinks and catching up and reminiscing. However, one of the group has now asked if its okay to bring her six year old daughter as her husband wants to play in a golf tournament that weekend. A child hanging around is going to completely change the tone of the holiday imho. I haven't spoken to all of the group yet but the two I have been in touch with are not too keen either.

AI (or we)BU to think of saying that we'd prefer if it was kept to adults only as it's the first time we've all been together in about ten years?

Oh and FF is bu for using the unnecessary and v annoying term, going forward, in the email. I liked her until that.

LemonBreeland · 17/04/2013 20:18

Wonders how EF will come back from this one?

I'm betting that there is a battle going on in the SE friend's household, as to whose weekend is best suited for a 6 year old dd to tag along with, the hotel or the golf. Her dh will have conveniently forgotten that she had first dibs on the weekend, and his golf will have been promoted to equal status. He will be saying that there is no way that the dd can tag along with him around the golf course, whereas it'd be perfectly fine (in his mind) for her to hang around with a bunch of girlies sitting under a parasol sipping drinks.

Still not your problem though.

rainbow2000 · 17/04/2013 21:03

Im up for the Dublin meet up as well.I wouldnt be surprised she used DH as an exscuse so you would all feel sorry for her and she could bring dd along.
Itss backfired so now its divide and conquar.
Please come back and let us know the next installment.Im waiting with baited breath

If there was a Dublin meet up where we got to meet Maryz then THAT would be an event.

WineWineWineWineWineWine for you all and a Brew for EF

I'm off for an adult only weekend soon. I love my 6yo with my whole heart but I'll be out of here like I'm escaping Alcatraz.

Not sure why some couples won't socialise without one another and others have to bring their DC when it simply isn't 'appropriate to accomodate their needs'. It's one weekend.

CheerfulYank · 17/04/2013 21:55

My best friend is always asking me to bring DS when we have sleepovers as they are very close, and I always say No Way In Hell.

gonerogue · 17/04/2013 22:08

walter am PL, so just down the road. You coming to the Dublin meet up, we can get the train [ grin]

Mary's is right though, I am probably related to half of you all.

So who's organising? Oh and sorry for the thread hijack OP.

HerrenaHandbasket · 17/04/2013 22:10

As a result of this thread I have asked my friends if it is ok to bring my baby along to the local beer festival this year! The answer was a resounding 'YES' but it was probably a good idea to acknowledge that they might have felt differently. None of them have kids (yet) so DS is a delightful novelty....

This thread is a wonderful soap opera, I look forward to hearing what crazy SE friend says next Grin
