AIBU?

AIBU to not want to move to Dudley?

I was recently offered a very well-paid job in the Black Country but ended up turning it down because I just couldn't imagine myself living there. I drove around the area and found it, well, depressing and I couldn't imagine myself living there. No offense to anyone around there - sometimes people 'jive' with a place and sometimes they don't. And I'm not a huge fan of commuting - for lots of reasons - so didn't want to have to live 45/60 minutes away from work.

My DH always brings it up and thinks I made a mistake, particularly as the salary was so much more than I'm on now. I feel horrible about the whole thing so would appreciate if people told me I was (a) crazy to give up the job or (b) made the right decision.

The Barley Mow used to make their own sloe gin. It was beautiful! And the homemade food was just lovely.

The Springhill (used to be a biker's pub) has also turned into a gastropub. Fucking BOSTIN it is. They do this dessert called the Peanut Butter Chocolate Stack. I would sell my child if I could eat a PBCS every day :(

If you drove round and found it grim then it would be a mistake to move there. But what some people love others don't. So it's a personal thing. But maybe you should look round the outlying areas before you decide.

My stupid daughter has moved from Dudley now so I have no excuse to go back again for a Greggs for lunch in Beatties (which is Iceland now anyway) [stamps foot] [nostalgic]

OOOeeee! Waves back.

Someone told me the Penn Cottage has gone all Gastropub now too!

That area has some excellent restaurants it has to be said Bridge 59 was my fave.

I have moved to a naice area now and the restaurants are not a patch on the ones over Wolvo way.

And of course Bobbington is only a 20 min drive from Dudlay and you are really out in the sticks there and has some great pubs and restaurants. Love the Royal Oak at Halfpenny green by the vineyard. Fantastic Bonfire Night there would rival Himley.

Penn Cottage is now a (very nice) Miller and Carter!

Penn Cottage was where I went on my first grown-up date in 1995!

I had my wedding reception at Blakelands too! I've not been exposed to the delights of the sit-down Greggs! Good place for a local lasses meet-up!!

My wedding was supposed to be the first one held there, if I had gone through with it. Hmm
