Dont want to cause some big debate but is anyone else on here getting sick to the back teeth of having to watch their p's and q's through fear of offending every tom, dick and harry.

FanjoForTheMammaries

Yes..that word is an actual medical term these days and not pejorative.

Seriously.

I may have misunderstood you in the first place; if I have just ignore me for being a twit. But if I haven't: I thought that "cretin" was originally a medical term, but it got hijacked by people who used it as a insult. Rather like terminology for multiple sclerosis (spastic) became an insult.

TSC that is pure lies

YouTheCat · 05/04/2013 12:00

Hahahaha

Pagwatch · 05/04/2013 12:01

You can only do the 'I pity you' thing if you can deliver a decent Mr T impression. Otherwise it just sounds like you can't think of anything else.

noddyholder · 05/04/2013 12:02

Please don't feel sorry for me I have done ok in spite of my low intellect Grin

TheBigJessie · 05/04/2013 12:02

Harpy

Read my post again.
"
A young woman, who is also disabled, came on to explain why she found the word "retard" offensive, and mentioned that just because she is disabled doesn't mean she even fits the traditional medical definition of "retard" anyway. Harpy ignored most of her post, and directed her attention on doubting the woman's intelligence, presumably to make herself better about her passionate love of the word "retard"."

You only paid attention to the insult. Which addressed your behaviour in general.

ExcuseTypos · 05/04/2013 12:04

Tbh I cant see the point in having discussions/debate with the kind of person who thinks making a sarky comment to an intelligent, knowledgable 16 yo, is making a valid contribution.

Thanks to Dawndonna's DD for that fantastic post.

tethersend · 05/04/2013 12:07

TSH, you are probably going to have to admit your error in commenting on a 16yr old's IQ if we stand a chance of discussing the issue any further.

I have debated with you on a number of threads, I know you can form coherent and well thought out arguments, even though your opinion differs wildy to mine.

This is not one of those threads- you have let yourself down very badly with that comment, and an apology would perhaps allow the debate to continue. Up to you.

noddyholder · 05/04/2013 12:08

I have reported that post as it is utter lies and the desperate attempt of someone who has lost the argument. I have never ever spread a rumour in my life and take extreme UMBRAGE at this.

In awe of MadBraLady. I want a Countdown teapot!

TheBigJessie · 05/04/2013 12:09

Let's face it. Dawndonna's daughter won. She called Harpy a patronising cow, and harpy responded straight back by patronising and sneering in the very vein she were accused of being patronising about in the first place! Which, in case anyone's forgotten , is the issue of wanting to treat all people with disabilities as "stupid".

seeker · 05/04/2013 12:09

Noddy, don't you mean umbridge? Grin

noddyholder · 05/04/2013 12:10

It is not a denial as you cannot deny what didn't happen. But I can object to you lying about me for sure.

YouTheCat · 05/04/2013 12:10

I want a Countdown teapot!

BruthasTortoise · 05/04/2013 12:10

Harpy are there any accurate descriptions of a disability from a medical standpoint which can't be used because of political correctness?

MadBraLady · 05/04/2013 12:11

Twas Lotta, not me. I can only dream of a Countdown teapot. Smile

Oh goody, now some rehashing of some ancient unverifiable history that half of us weren't even around for.

ouryve · 05/04/2013 12:11

And I'm in awe of the wrong person. This is why I don't have a Countdown teapot.

TheBigJessie · 05/04/2013 12:11

And now, to return to a tangent of 15 thousand pages ago.

I find that I can voice anything I like about the issue of say, gay marriage. The only limiting factor upon is what I actually believe, as I wouldn't say something I didn't believe!

tethersend · 05/04/2013 12:11

I think we could all do with a Countdown teapot right now, Cat.

Filled with gin.

YouTheCat · 05/04/2013 12:12

Can we move this along now? I've got housework interesting things to do and a cake to ice.

MadBraLady · 05/04/2013 12:13

Lots of highly offensive words + teapot + gin. I think we've probably lit up every red flashing light in MNHQ now.
